One thing they could do to attempt to even out the episodes would be to incorporate the Top Chef Masters means of scoring (i.e. weighted scores for the quickfire and elimination challenge, totaled at the end.)
That would at least add a level of "fairness" to the segment of the game as a whole.
It probably wouldn't have made a difference this week (Dale and Carla were in the bottom of both) but does seem somewhat unfair when a chef hits a home run in a quickfire and then goes home later that episode, while surviving chefs were bottom placers throughout - no harm no foul.
The only thing that I took away from this season is an obsession with the idea of trying to deep-fry a pickle. It is gonna happen soon....
I find that whole "he stole my idea" laughable, as if Richard's food is so unique that his ideas are patented. It isn't as if we haven't seen the same scallop dishes a billion times over the course of the series and there are just so many ways you can fry a shrimp or an oyster.
there are just so many ways you can fry a shrimp
True, but shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sauté it. There's, um, shrimp kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, pan fried, deep fried, stir fried. There's pineapple shrimp and lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp in potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich.
That's...that's about it.

You left out shrimp pizza. I have had a shrimp pizza, which was only slightly less vile than the full-board seafood pizza (great when scalding hot--horrible when it passes through warm and toxic as it reaches cold).

Hit the nail right on the head Bubba ;)
1. After I saw two good dishes in a row, I knew they were all going to the finals. They always alternate between good and bad food.
2. All of those plates looked **** delicious.
3. Them going up against the chef that won their season looks AWESOME (and I think Mike and Tiffany are in trouble).

The plates definitely did look delicious. I was starving by the time I finished the episode. And I cannot wait to see them compete against the people that won the season they were on. Even though I haven't seen the other seasons I bet it will be good anyway.

While I thought Steph was a great chef, I thought Richard and Antonia showed flashes that were better. Hosea was a joke of a winner so I don't think Carla should have much of a problem against him (after all, he did have Richard as his sous chef for the finale). But Voltaggio was legit and even though I didn't see Kevin's season, heard he was a very good chef as well.
I think they just didn't have the heart to send them home with their family there short an obvious disaster. I hate these big field finals because they will end up either doing ****** tasting menus where we don't get the see the full dish or they get limited to a certain number of dishes using a certain type of ingredient. I want a "Cook as a freaking big old meal using whatever the heck you can find at the store" finale.
I thought Antonia was a goner for sure last night!!
I was positive she was going to go as well. I know they are only supposed to look at the current task, but I have a feeling they made their final decision based on Antonia's body of work throughout the competition in comparison to Carla.

Oh I don't know about that...
Challenge wins to date:
Carla - 3
Richard - 3
Antonia - 2
Mike - 1 (last night)
Tiffany - 0
Quickfire wins (including last night):
Richard - 4
Mike - 3
Carla - 1
Antonia - 1
Tiffany - 0
Tiffany needs to go, like yesterday. She has been on the bottom 7 times (and only high 4). If you were to give 2 points for a win, 1 for being on the top, and -1 for being in the bottom (with 0 for being "in"), she would be the only one left with a negative rating (Richard +10, Antonia +4, Mike +3, Tiffany - 3)
Oh I don't know about that...

Just look at the placements over the home stretch...
Antonia: WIN HIGH HIGH HIGH WIN LOW
Carla: HIGH WIN LOW LOW HIGH LOW
So basically this was Antonia's first time in the bottom since week seven, and Carla's third time.
Body of work was not the right phrase. I should have said the judges probably looked at the recent trend in formulating their decision. Clearly Antonia has been outperforming Carla over the last 6 weeks.

I can't disagree with that one. She definitely has. I remember seeing Antonia crying in the preview for last week, so I thought she would be gone for sure after seeing her food was not good.
eeing Antonia crying in the preview for last week, so I thought she would be gone for sure after seeing her food was not good.
She's always crying, haha.
I hope Antonia wins I will be kind of upset if any other chef wins especially Richard I dont know but he is not a favorite to me to take home the price.
I am rooting for Mike. I hate him but I want to see Richard go down and nothing would rub more salt in the wound than Mike winning.
If Mike or Tiffany won, the entire season would be a waste of my time.

I'm in the same boat! Richard used to be a favorite of mine, but his sour attitude over the past few episodes has really changed my opinion. And he still can't get over losing to Stephanie? Really? I don't care for Mike very much at all, but would enjoy watching Richard's pity party if Mike were to win (waah waah, I hate everything I do, boo hoo for me). I'm really pulling for Antonia, though - I liked her a lot on her original season and she's been great this second time around! And if it can't be Carla, I'd rather see Antonia win over the other three remaining chefs.
If Mike or Tiffany won, the entire season would be a waste of my time.
I too really thought it was going to be Antonia the entire time I was watching it. I'm glad they didn't get rid of her because she's one of the people I'd like to win. At this point I'm rooting for her or Richard. You are completely right molds, if either Mike or Tiffany won it would definitely be a waste of time. Tiffany should have never been on the season in my opinion. She just hasn't shown anything worth remembering.
Kind of shocked when they showed a commercial for this. I thought everyone hated Marcel? ;) Definitely sounds like him and the SyFy network will suit him well.

Hoping nobody with a y-chromosome wins the finale (and from the preview of that Marcel show, I would say it is exactly as appealing as his foams--warm bucket o' spit)
I am pulling for the best Chef. Not the best Chef to cook to 10 year old kids, or cook kabob samples at Walmart.
I am pulling for the best Chef, period. The food I'd want to eat when I'm living large.
This episode weeded out another. Time for the best Chef to win.
I've been watching the other seasons because I've never seen them and Season 5 is just BORING! If it weren't for Fabio I would seriously just give up.
"I am front of the house. We can serve monkey-*** and empty clam shell and we will still win."
