I don't know if this means anything, but I have noticed that MTV has been doing a lot of integrated marketing associated with Rivals. Tons of sponsorships, promo clips, tagged tune ins, and so on and so forth. I would think that if they had really given up on the challenge already, they wouldn't be pairing the sponsors with the show. Integrated marketing seems to be where a lot of the networks money comes in in recent years. This could be very off and I don't claim to have any significant advertising knowledge, but it just seems like maybe the network has SOME hope for the show.
1.8 million viewers, 1.1 in 18-49.
1.357 million viewers, 0.8 in 18-49
1.658 million viewers, 1.0 in 18-49
1.616 million viewers, 0.9 in 18-49
1.662 million viewers, 1.0 in 18-49
It's interesting to note that, contrary to earlier speculation, the girl's competition days have been the higher rated episodes (so far).
What IS the prime demo for MTV?
See post # 180 above. It is an intelligent explanation.
It is easier to say what the prime demo is not. It is not over 34. Below 34 would be the real preference, but you have to pay dearly for the rating info and unless the challenges cracks into the 10 ten in 18-34, we're not going to hear about it. The full ratings book is not released except to those who pay $$$$ to Nielsen for it.
I think next week is a good episode and can shake up the game a little bit but I think they should advertise it better, like I haven't seen any previews for it and they should have had a preview of the next episode after Ep5, along with the mid season teaser. Also the sneek peek didn't show Evan and Nehemiah and I think that's more important next week than CT and Laurel.

Thank you for the information.

That gives me a little hope! So glad if it is renewed!

Who mentioned that rumor?

As a general practice, I do not name my sources unless they agree in advance that I may use names.
Apologies to those who have read this before. Some people have missed the gazillion times I've written the same thing.

Thanks!!!! This gives me a lot of hope!!! Can't wait for more confirmation!!
Thanks V1man that's awesome news. Glad to hear MTV is sticking by a show that's been there for them for a long time. They used to be the Jersey Shore of the 90's lol. Awesome news, thanks for sharing.

Remember he said it was a rumor, I trust V1man but aslong as there is no official news don't get too excited.

Your reaction is one I hoped I would not read. In fact, I almost didn't post my original comment, knowing that a few would jump to such an an unwarranted conclusion.
Let me be clear: If the "RUMOR" had not come to me from a couple of recent challenge cast members, I never would have shared the information. A rumor is not a tested source. It could entirely be the result of wishful thinking by those passing on the rumor -- or simply the passing on of their own personal desire.
Skeet: Thanks for your careful read of my prior comment.
MTV’s Challenge Rivals was up 0.2 to a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating.

Here's the Aftershow ratings as well:

Not bad week at all, I wanted a 2mill number but it's still really good for an episode that's not the premiere or finale. And pretty average numbers on the aftershow.
I'm VERY happy to see that 1.2. I was hoping for a miracle 1.3 but I didn't think it would happen. 1.2? I'll take it! I just hope it doesn't drop down to like a .08 next week. Come on ratings!
I would guess that the aftershow ratings are the show's natural audience--those fans who watch no matter what. I sometimes watch the show but hardly ever the aftershows/reunions on any of the MTV shows. Teen Wolf is about the only reason I watch MTV enough to know the Challenges are on.
Awwww yeauuuuhhhhh.
I hope the challenges are renewed, but if they keep casting the same people I'd rather it just die quietly. But for right now I'm still rooting for them!
A week ago I reported rumors from within the cast of renewal of the challenge series. In the past couple of days, I learned of a conversation between a former BMP cast member and a senior member of the BMP production team during which the BMP executive said the challenge had not been renewed. Unfortunately, I don't know the timeline of either the cast rumor or of this reported conversation. Without knowing the timelines and the context of the conversation, I can only say it's interesting, and obviously inconclusive.

Thanks for the "news" v1man, pretty interesting news though as you said inconclusive cause it could've been a conversation from before rivals. Let's hope the ratings of the last episode and the final few episodes will convince MTV to renew the show, assuming the last few episodes get good ratings of course.

I would think that if they were going to renew the show, the would have announced it when the season was first starting to air for the free publicity. I would also guess that if they are not going to renew the show, there will be no big announcement because they wouldn't want to draw attention to the show's failure. They would more likely just disclose that in an interview on something else or a press release about a show that would be replacing it would be what I would do I think.

Yes if they had already made the decision, which they didn't. Now they are probably looking at the ratings of Rivals to see if it is worth renewing first.
