Top Chef: Discussion - Bravo

Top Chef has announced that their upcoming season will be taking place in Sin City.

There's gotta be at least one buffet challenge in the cheftestants' future. Bravo this morning confirmed what may be its worst-kept secret to date, that the sixth season of Top Chef will take place in Las Vegas. Padma Lakshmi returns to host the foodie excursion, and will be joined by head judge Tom Colicchio, food editor Gail Simmons and quip-ready Brit author Toby Young, who has spent the better part of the past two months not so quietly blogging about his time in Sin City. The identities of this season's aspiring chefs—along with filming locations and challenges—have yet to be revealed, though the wrap party took place on the Strip over the weekend. It's been widely reported that the season will be based at the city's M Resort. Top Chef: Las Vegas premieres on Bravo this fall; the spinoff, Top Chef Masters, which pits established culinary artists against one another, begins June 10.

I have never heard of the M resort, but here's a picture: After doing my research, I found that it's actually located in Henderson, about a half hour out of LV, in the middle of NOWHERE. Very cool! I am getting excited and I have heard good things about the Top Chef: Masters which should help until this starts. Not sure how I feel about having Toby around again. That pic you found looks like a rendering so it is probably a pretty new building/resort looking for some publicity through Top Chef.

It actually seems pretty nice. Here are some of the specs: -A truly one-of-a-kind design, the M Resort does not feature reflective glass like many of the areas resorts. Instead, it includes skylights on the casino floor allowing natural light in – a rare feature in the casino industry. The architecture is progressive in style, incorporating horizontal lines, natural lighting and a rich color palette of natural materials. It’s definitely not your run of the mill cheesy theme resort. -Oversized guest rooms and suites ranging from 550 to 2,400 square feet. More than 70 percent of the rooms at the M Resort offer views of the Las Vegas Strip through floor to ceiling windows. -Guest rooms equipped with high-technology amenities including Bose Wave sound system, iPod docking station and 42” HD LCD flat screen television. There’s also inlaid mirror television in the bathroom. -Wireless internet connectivity throughout the entire resort, allowing guests to access wireless voice and data services, mobile phones, BlackBerry devices, PDAs and laptops. -More than 92,000 square feet of gaming excitement, including 1,900 video poker and slot machines, 64 game tables, high limit area, live action poker room, race and sports book and poolside gaming. -A buffet featuring a live action cooking studio – the first of its kind. The studio will engage diners providing them with ringside seats to cooking demonstrations and broadcasts. Perhaps it’ll feel like you’re in the Iron Chef Kitchen Stadium on Food Network. -A 23,000 square foot, world-class spa, salon and fitness center will offer 16 treatment rooms, sauna, steam and hot tub wet areas and a state-of-the-art fitness center. And the one that matters: -Nearly 30,000 square feet of kitchen and culinary work areas dedicated to the culinary arts. The resort will own and operate all of its nine restaurants and five destination bars, which feature the next-generation dining experience with unique culinary concepts and innovative social dining atmospheres.
Sweet! Can't wait. Hopefully Top Chef Masters, starting this week, will get me through until then.
M is a new :P I haven't been there yet though.. anyways, my science teacher who worked for an MGM restaurant (dont ask why he ditch that job for a science teacher..) said 2 of chef friends from MGM will be in the next season. hopefully this is useful..
I woke up this morning to find an e-mail from one of my Top Chef-watchin' friends telling me that Bravo has put up the site for Top Chef: Las Vegas, revealing the cast! The show premieres August 26 at a new time, 9/8c. Check it out here: http://www.bravotv.com/top-chef
It was a smart idea having the contestants live in a resort in the suburbs of Las Vegas to help them keep some sanity. I don't they could have gotten anything done living on the strip and having hundreds of people stalk them lol. Also can't wait to see what the chefs from Atlanta bring to the table. Pura Vida is fire!
At first I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but it looks like this season features the first where brothers will be competing against each other, Bryan and Michael Voltaggio. Here's the rest of the cast list (I know a link has been provided, but this is easier): Ron Duprat-40, Hollywood & Naples, FL (originally from Mare Rouge, Haiti) Robin Leventhal-43, Seattle, WA (originally from Sun Valley, ID) Preeti Mistry-33, San Francisco, CA Michael Voltaggio-30, Los Angeles, CA (originally from Frederick, MD) Michael Isabella-34, North Jersey (originally from Washington, DC) Mattin Noblia-29, San Francisco, CA (originally from Biarritz, France) Laurine Wickett-38, San Francisco, CA (originally from Rochester, NY) Kevin Gillespie-26, Atlanta, GA Jesse Sandlin-30, Baltimore, MD Jennifer Zavala-33, Philadelphia, PA (originally from Cromwell, CT) Jennifer Carroll-33, Philadelphia, PA Hector Santiago-41, Atlanta, GA (originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico) Eve Aronoff-40, Ann Arbor, MI Eli Kirshtein-25, Atlanta, GA Bryan Voltaggio-33, Urbana, MD (originally from Frederick, MD) Ashley Merriman-32, Seattle (originally from Center Sandwich, NH) Ash Fulk-29, New York City (originally from Pleasant Hill, CA) So...17, just like last season. Maybe they'll be sending someone home right away again.
The two brothers should definitely make for an interesting story line ... kind of like the lesbian couple Zoi and Jen from Season 4. I'm sure somebody will be going home right away with that many people. I can't wait to see the challenges they cook up (corny, I know) while living in one of my favorite cities!
Brothers will be an interesting dynamic. I gotta pull for my fellow New Hampshire-ite though! Ashley Merriman you better make us proud :D
Brothers will be an interesting dynamic. I gotta pull for my fellow New Hampshire-ite though! Yeah, if Eve is an embarrassment, I'm gonna be kind of upset :(
Three people from Maryland and one from DC?! On one show?! I hope they make it ******* state seems to have a curse in reality television...the last person I remember from MD was this guy from Survivor who was from my town and got voted off first.

Maybe that is why I love Bode Miller so much and he can do no wrong in my book. At least it helps people remember we are a state more than every 4 years during the primaries. ;)
Is anybody else excited about the season premiere tomorrow? Still can't believe Atlanta has three chefs representing!
Is anybody else excited about the season premiere tomorrow? Still can't believe Atlanta has three chefs representing!
I love this show and can't wait. I might even DVR The Real World *gasp* and watch Top Chef Maters/Top Chef back to back.
Yeah, for some reason I haven't been able to get into Top Chef Masters. I tried watching the marathon the other day but got a little bored. Maybe because the chefs were older and therefore not about the drama LOL.
I like Top Chef Masters, but it does not bring the drama like Top Chef (which btw, is starting now!)
I totally forgot!! I thought it wasn't on til 10!! Go Eve from the Deuce!!
It is going to collide with The Real World being it runs 15 minutes over, so I am DVRing it.
It is going to collide with The Real World being it runs 15 minutes over, so I am DVRing it.
It's not like RW isn't going to be on again 234384573 times this week, so I'm just hoping to catch a repeat. :D

LOL at Coliccio's face after Jenn kissed him on the cheek.
Do you guys have an early favorite?
Do you guys have an early favorite?
Not yet, but I do have some early "you are gonna annoy the heck out of me" contestants. ;)
Not yet, but I do have some early "you are gonna annoy the heck out of me" contestants. ;)
Haha...yes, the cast seems pretty fun, but I do have some people that will probably annoy the crap out of me. Jen reminds me of Casey from season 3.
Not at the moment, but I have an early "I can't stand that guy" and the nominee is Mike Isabella. He lost me when he made the asinine comment about how a girl shouldn't be able to keep up with his clam shucking skills (referencing Jenn). Additionally, I fricking LOVE the Palazzo. My current fave hotel on the strip.

If he is trying to be the next Stefan he is missing the main component of SARCASM that allowed him to get away with a lot of his "attitude" and comments. I think Mike is gonna be more like a Spike and just be the ****** of the season. Blech.
Wow, I am kind of surprised Kevin won! The minute he said he was doing a slow cooked dish and could definitely finish in the 2 hours I thought they were giving him the doomsday edit. Fooled again Bravo editors!

Called it! Her dish just looked bad. Super glad that my girl from AA didn't go home first.
