I thought the SD2 cast was very good looking, and look how that season turned out. Although, as shallow as this may sound, I didn't mind watching that season just to see the hot people, lol. I know I'm probably the only one, but I really didn't mind SD2 at all. Frank annoyed me, but the rest of them were thoroughly enjoyable to me, not just on looks, but the personalities as well. Although it kept me interested, having a good looking cast didn't do to well with the viewers though as they had bad ratings...
IDR if they've cancelled showing it on Fourth of July I know they definitely don't show it the week of Thanksgiving or Christmas. They should have waited til maybe this week to begin airing the season at all, rather than show it the first week, not show it the second week, then go back to it?
Which would put the finale (assuming 13 weeks) at the end of September after the fall season lineup has already begun on all other networks as opposed to the middle of September about the time most new shows are being rolled out as it appears to be running now. I'm guessing there will be no *** show and the reunion will run after the finale so they can jump on top of whatever their fall Wednesday at 10 show will be.

MTV executives saw the footage from this season before making their scheduling decisions. Perhaps they decided to write off the season and starting the last week in June was a way to begin burning through the episodes to allow for a hopefully good fall challenge to be squarely in the middle of the Fall Sweeps.

Perhaps. I don't know if it is true, but I read or heard somewhere that putting on really successful upfront events is getting to matter more than sweeps in terms of ad sales.

That is certainly a trend in the industry, but I don't think it applies with an established series like RW or the Challenges.
Why would they even air The Real World on 4th of July? That is not smart because they had to have known the ratings would be bad since everyone was busy seeing fireworks and stuff. Don't they usually cancel The Real World if its on during a holiday? I remember they cancelled the Challenges the week of Thanksgiving.
Does it matter if its a holiday or not. And what do you mean the challenge was cancelled the week of Thanksgiving? That's not true
Does it matter if its a holiday or not. And what do you mean the challenge was cancelled the week of Thanksgiving? That's not true
Not exactly 'cancelled', they would just postpone the episode to be shown the week AFTER Thanksgiving.
I just noticed there's no "The real world is sponsored by subway/sun drop/etc" every other commercial..... or am i just missing them?
Oh yeah I don't think so. There's always the Subway sponsorship. Maybe there are no Subways in the Virgin Islands, hah.
Oh yeah I don't think so. There's always the Subway sponsorship. Maybe there are no Subways in the Virgin Islands, hah.
Yes there are (I made a joke about that early on and got corrected). I've noticed that Subway doesn't seem to be advertising nearly as much anyway. Cannot say I have seen a Sun Drop ad in forever, so it may be a decision having nothing to do with this particular season.
This will hurt ratings...

That is more talk than anything and will probably result in a decade long lawsuit. Dish has had these type of ongoing suits since their inception (e.g. Tivo v. Dish Network/Ecostar.)
The current issue is more immediate. Viacom is threatening to pull the plug tonight, which if true would mean almost 1/5 of the country will not have access to MTV and The Real World tomorrow (including me.)
That can't be good for ratings...

Go to the bar and watch it. It'll probably be much more fun that way (except everyone will know you watch The Real World) ;)
The drinking games they cannot play will be made up by the rest of us while watching the show!!

Like I'd be able to convince them to turn on The Real World at my local bar, haha.
I'll just watch it online later. :D

You wanna just Skype and do beer bongs every time someone does something that's funny/interesting/annoying? :D
Someone has to do beer bongs!!
If MTV was smart, they'd do some kind of .com thing where you enter in your DirecTV account number or something and you can watch it online for free.
Though I have Cablevision so I don't have to worry about losing MTV, just every other channel when the company that owns those channels gets greedy and wants more money.

That's exactly what I think happened, and the lack of promotion is almost a dead giveaway.

I call BS on that. They were releasing videos on that Remote Control blog which they have never done before weeks before the show and there were several ads leading into the premiere. They weren't taking out full page ads and billboards, but I have seen more promotion into the premiere this season than I can recall for any recent season. It has only been after 2 bad weeks that the show is being put on the back burner ad-wise IMHO.

There honestly wasn't anything remotely interesting shown in those blogs, to add fuel to the fire the is no fresh story lines in the mix everything about this cast has been seen on atleast one occasion in another season and told in a more interesting way. Promotions has been very underwhelming lately.

I was speaking to the quantity of the promotion. Quality is always subjective (not that I disagree about that). They can only work with what they have or else they would CGI JEK in there because they are clearly the only reason MTV still exists (well at least on most of our TV's--Bacchus is in the 1/5th of America just up the creek LOL)

Not like missing Real World for a week is too bad of a thing. It could be worse, I mean you could be from Boston.
...Oh...right
The absence tonight of MTV from 20 million households subscribing to DirecTV will not help RW's ratings. I don't know how badly it will hurt, but as a Nielsen ratings household myself, I know they will be missing us tonight.

Which will now give them the excuse--"It was a good season that got off to a slow start but it is not reflected in the ratings because we lost xx% of our market due to Direct TV".
Do you find yourself watching more PBS since becoming a Nielson boxholder? I've heard that happens a lot in the beginning by people....

It might be a good argument, except it's MTV parent company that pulled the plug. I think they will get the rating they all deserve.
As for myself, I've been with Nielson for a very, very long time. PBS hasn't been on my regular viewing list since Masterpiece Theatre was at it's peak. My viewing journal is almost completely scripted TV these days with the USA network scoring 75% of my viewing hours.

Now that is a network which, unlike MTV, will really work developing and promoting and sticking with shows that run there. They probably have the best overall schedule of scripted cable mainstream audience programming IMHO.
MTV at my house currently...

Laura recognizes the VIACOM move it not going to help ratings.

I blame Direct TV not Viacom. Its customers are like people who buy discount insurance online only to be shocked at the hassle they have to go through when they file a claim. In the end, I have cable so Welcome to the Every Six Month Price Hike Club. Hope you enjoy your stay.
