Real World: St Thomas - Ratings
A stunning performance!!! Ouch. I'm not sure I've ever seen a Real World premiere that low.
That's pretty bad. Even San Diego started off better than that. Yikes.
That's pretty bad. Even San Diego started off better than that. Yikes.
Well, to be fair, San Diego was coming off Las Vegas. And St Thomas...well, they were coming off San Diego. I have a feeling MTV lost a lot of casual Real World viewers last season.
Woah... not good at all.
Those ratings are terrible. I really hope the show can bounce back from this.
I can't help but think that these ratings are because of San Diego. This is what San Diego ratings were like all season besides the premiere. And San Diego's premiere numbers were what Las Vegas was hitting all the time during their season. Hopefully St. Thomas can back bounce a bit as long as it's over 1.5M MTV will renew it because PaulyD, PunkD, ABDC, 16&Pregnant, have all been around this area low 1M with PaulyD, and Punkd even going below that.

Next week being July4th doesn't help the show at all. But hopefully they can still climb up whenever things slow down for Summer.
Honestly I had NO idea the premiere was last night! Apparently a lot of other people didn't, either :/

I'm sure tons of people didn't come back at all because SD wasn't that great.

Well, on the bright side we will be seeing more Teen Mom repeats during the week LOL
Yeah I stopped last season, but came back and watched this one. It is going to take a lot of positive buzz to get this season off of life support, but I have hope after seeing the premiere that they can build momentum and possibly stave off a meeting with the cancellation bear.
Simply put, this season didn't look all that amazing at first glance. I mean the trailer didn't show anything special really and it just looked like another generic season without the characters needed to do well. I mean Vegas had A LOT of stuff going for it with the people on the show, this one so far there's really only one stand out distinctive personality and that's Brandon whose story really hadn't really be dwelled upon until the episode aired. There's also the fact that this season did not follow a Jeresy Shore season so MTV's audience is probably down a decent amount.
Wow, that's really sad to hear. If the ratings don't pick up, I have no doubt in my mind this will be the last season.
Wow, that's really sad to hear. If the ratings don't pick up, I have no doubt in my mind this will be the last season.
There's like two more seasons on the contract still. They'll have at least one more.
I am legitimately surprised. The stink of San Diego must be carrying over. If I wasn't a hardcore fan, I probably wouldn't be looking forward to this season after what I saw last season. Also, the trailers for this season didn't inspire me either. Now the actual product turned out a lot better than I was expecting. We can only hope word of mouth picks up, and viewers show up for week 2 or week 3. A whole season of ratings like this and we are in trouble.
There's like two more seasons on the contract still. Next season better be FANTASTIC then, otherwise I'm gonna have to find another show to be on.
I don't want TRW to end, because I still watch it even though I can acknowledge it has gone down in quality. (Well, it has flip flopped). However, it has to end eventually and inevitably. I say they try and go to at least season 30 and if they decide to end it there, then oh well. But 30 seasons would be a pretty cool hallmark to hit.

Guess I'll just have to do Big Brother.

They have another season under contract and this season can be a building block to its eventual success in renewing the contract. I personally think that the ratings are not that bad considering how much competition there is on cable/internet generally.

It's the summer, most shows are in re-runs. This is the lowest ratings that I've EVER seen for any episode of the Real World, better yet for a season premiere, that's terrible. The fact that next week is fourth of July, most people in the US will be out at a BBQ or watching Macy's Fireworks show or something. The ratings for this season have nowhere to go but down, if you ask me.
The ratings for this season have nowhere to go but down, if you ask me.
Looking back, do seasons that air during the fall usually do better than Summer ones? I always assumed so because of the buzz that would be going around on campuses and stuff Some things that I think would have help some with ratings: 1) It should have been called "The Real World: Virgin Islands". When I first heard "St. Thomas", I thought to myself "where is that"? I guess I just assume a lot of the audience hasn't really heard of it. 2) More diverse cast. After watching the first episode Trey, Swift, and Rob all seem like the same person... 3) MTV should have considered rerunning episodes of the Las Vegas season leading into it and aired a ****load of promos 4)Maybe a casting special the week before like they used to do. ..mainly because I used to LOVE watching those and learning more about that cast

It's a good chance to get to know the cast beforehand. I remember watching the Key West special before their season aired and really enjoyed it. You get to see each person comfortable and in their prime, so you get a great idea for who they really are. It would be even better if favorite cast members from previous seasons introduced them in the season location to give it a bit of feeling.

To be honest, I cannot remember to watch anything in summer, even new shows I watch like Deadliest Catch.
Last season and I think Cancun had even worse ratings.
http://vevmo.com/f243/the-real-world-cancun-ratings-3331/ Cancun actually had pretty good ratings compared to what RW has been getting, it just started slow. I'm hoping that this season can build momentum and do well, but MTV may have to put more energy into promoting. They had an all day marathon of Teen Mom leading up to this premiere, wouldn't it have been smarter to do a marathon of RW Vegas, arguably the most popular season in the last 4 years?

When a season does well, they promote it and do lots of reruns. As soon an episode pulls low ratings, they have stopped advertising the season and reduced the repeats to 1 or 2 a week. MTV is pretty merciless when it comes to RW and low ratings.
Really upsetting but after San Diego, who is surprised? San Diego was worse than Cancun.
I think ratings will pick up if this first episode's quality was any indication of future shows.
