The Challenge: Battle of the Seasons - Ratings
Doesnt really look like a bright future if these people will carry the franchise. 7 of the 8 people has participate on this challenge and it gets really poor ratings. However, I think the preshow boot of team Sydney triggered a massive chain reaction that cursed this season. In the first 3-4 episodes the wrong people were in the spotlight (Fresh meat), people who had been there already and not the new rookies and I think this turned a lot of people of. You cant have a rookie revolution if only Wes/Alton/Sarah were the only real veterans in the house. This storyline didnt really click. After that BMP/MTV did a poor job of protecting the new breed or give them a character that the people could connect with. Beside Dustin/Chet of the new people, none of these people had a character that was not alcohol involved or segments where they didnt look bad. You cant have a season just with villains. If you analyse all the drama in the house, you would probably understand Alton.
You are 100% correct!
What's the real problem here... is it that there are too many new people that viewers don't recognize and aren't yet invested in? (I don't think so). Or is it that people genuinely have less than zero percent interest in seeing Frank and Zach on their TVs again, much less dominating a challenge (Ding ding ding!). I have to imagine BMP thought that having FaZ as their villians would work out well because people would tune in to root for them to lose. Well that clearly backfired as these two aren't funny enough to get people interested (as Kenny and Evan are). Long term, the health of the Challenges is directly related to the health of TRW. Most people tune in to watch Challenges because the contestants are people they already know from another show. If viewers weren't fans of the cast from TRW seasons, they're not going to watch Challenges. It's also not a great idea to take people who are relatively fresh from their seasons that noone liked in the first place (Trey, Zach, Frank) and stick them right into a Challenge. People still harbor those grudging feelings. Let us get over them a bit first before you shove these ******* down our throats again.
He can still have an opinion lol. The challenge is in trouble and a lot of people would like it to stop, even long time fans of the show.. I'm not one of them, but they even I will admit they are well passed their glory days.
You can't be a fan of something and want it to be canceled, logically that makes no sense. And once again for the 179964 time the debate against whether theres too many rookies and if thats the cause for bad ratings. Come on, it's really getting old it's the same arguement back and forth over and over.
You can't be a fan of something and want it to be canceled, logically that makes no sense.
Personally, I wouldn't mind if it was to get a break for a few years, just so it can come back fresh.

There are huge fans of movies, tv series, and when a sequel is planed or a spinoff a lot of people don't think it should be made because it is destroying something great. The same logic came be placed on the challenges.
The obvious answer, Alton ran the show. When he was involved ratings went up when he wa gone they plummeted. Alton=most bankable star on television! <_< >_> I got nothin.
Personally, I wouldn't mind if it was to get a break for a few years, just so it can come back fresh.
That won't work at all. People will move on and watch something else. Ever wondered why some music artists keep putting out an album every other month? To stay relevant.
Also taking a break for a few years would take a lot of people out of the challenge rotation I imagine.
At least Rookies vs. Vets means getting some of the old people back, hell maybe even some people we haven't seen in a real long time. That would be more likely to get the ratings back up rather than just saying "forget the old people"

Plus this season had HUGE potential and got screwed by one of the Syndey fools. Sydney and Austin were probably the two most anticipated teams along with Las Vegas. We lose Sydney before the seasons starts and then get stuck with a reject Fresh Meat team. Then we lose Austin the first 2 weeks and we are stuck with the most hated team in charge (Frank). This season was also up against huge competition and for MTV are the ratings really THAT bad? I feel like people just like being negative. This season is not the worst, and I feel like MTV/BMP can redeem themselves next season.

But I don't think the challenge has detiorated to the point where its ruined, the last 2 seasons were 2 of the best and highly rated seasons ever.
I'd like to point out that the most recent episode of Jersey Shore barely got over 2 million viewers. Granted that's up against NFL and NBA now, but it's still a telling sign that MTV itself is probably not as popular as it was even a year or two ago and that these shows aren't going to do well in the ratings.
The ratings struggle primarily because BMP does an awful job introducing new players. They have to gradually bring them in. The challenge viewers aren't the same as the real world. When you cast 15 people out of 32 that had never even done one challenge before you aren't going to get viewers. Hopefully they learned a valuable lesson

The only way the show can be successful is by creating a mix of new & old--that was not done. When they're relying on Austin to save a season and they go home first there's problems. BMP desperately needed Austin to survive in this challenge because of the poor cast.

Fresh Meat replacing Sydney was a huge blow. I remember people being estatic about this cast when it was first revealed. Frank owning this season was the downfall not the cast. When I initially saw the cast I thought it was the best since Gauntlet 2, however things quickly went downhill. Still not a terrible season to me. Then again I am a HUGE Trishelle fan so thats made the season good for me. I just hope BMP understands the failure of Frank. The drama on the challenges is my favorite, but I tune out when it involves Frank. It is fake and pathetic.

Frank would kiss their a**. No drama with Frank is good. I watch a lot of reality tv and Frank is one of the most vile people I've ever witnessed. He isn't fun to hate, he makes me want to change the channel. I hope BMP realizes this and does not invite him back.

I love Devyn, but I can't watch cause of Frank. What's crazy is that I disliked JEK dominance, but they were at least funny and entertaining people. I use to love to root against their alliances, but they were likeable as Characters! Frank is just another level, and he's HORRIBLE!! Again you're 100% correct!
I would like to see Frank and Johnny on a Challenge together. That would be entertaining. Or even Frank and Trey together again, considering their ridiculous Twitter wars. Does anyone actually know why Fresh Meat replaced Sydney? If Sydney was there I think they would've dominated, IMO. I would've LOVED to see Isaac back on a Challenge. Hopefully they'll cast him for next season because I know that he is willing to come back. I actually would've liked to see Ashli too. I feel like she might have started some drama - remembering her fight with Robin on The Island.

Frank and Johnny wouldn't be entertaining, because Frank would never approach Johnny, CT he's too big of a b****. Please don't give BMP any idea to being him back that's a disgusting thought. Cara Maria said that an illegal substance or something was found in one of their bags. The reject Fresh Meat team was all they could find that would drop everything to fly out the next morning.
Johnny is just as much of a puss as Frank.
This is true. I hate to admit it but Johnny would never punch anyone on theses challenges and Frank knows that. Johnny is way to smart to blow up on someone and fight them.
I think people have too much high hopes for this JKE vs Frank. Nobody is scared of Johnny (or Kenny) so let's stop there. What would be entertaining about that? They'll just crack jokes and even though he's emotional I don't see Frank cracking to them because he's too calculated. Evan isn't really confrontational. To be honest, I don't see CT and Frank having any beef unless Frank starts it and that won't happen. I see them just ignoring him if he's acting a fool. I'd rather see Wes and Frank catfight again or even someone else.
Through ten episodes, Seasons is averaging 1.11 million with a 0.70 rating. Remember past seasons have all been ten episodes. To recap past average ratings: Ruins: 1.61 million, 1.0 Fresh Meat 2: 1.19 million, 0.71 Cutthroat: 1.36 million, 0.77 Rivals: 1.82 million, 1.08
Updating to a 1.10 million average with a 0.69 rating. Frank was the focus of SD and it had a huge ratings decline. Frank is the focus of Seasons and it has a huge ratings decline. Does this mean Frank can't be on the next challenge or just edited differently to give him less airtime?
St. Thomas averaged 1.06 million with 0.58 rating Signifcantly lower rating compared to the Challenge so a lot of RW viewers are over 49.
St. Thomas averaged 1.06 million with 0.58 rating Signifcantly lower rating compared to the Challenge so a lot of RW viewers are over 49.
Or under 18, which is the MTV demo.

This would make it the worst rated Challenge in recent history. It also looks like it was not a good idea to extend the series to 12 episodes as episodes 9 and 11 had bad ratings.
I disagree. If anything the current vets are just as unlikable as the rookies. Besides you can't expect viewers to be cool with the entire cast being new and different, you have to eas it on them. I definitely think people like Dustin, Nany, Marie, Emily, Frank, CJ, Jasmine, and Knight can carry the franchise long term.
Exactly. It's just the fact that they relied on those vets for so long that the viewers got used to them. And then they see this challenge with noone they're familar with people got turned off....This is exactly why they should stop casting the same damn people on every challenge.
