I've actually yet to see the show, but from what I'm hearing I'm going to guess that the ratings (out later today for the premiere) are going to beat the Exes ratings (which started its premiere with a 1.2 with 1.908 viewers).
Also, let's not forget, BOTE had 2 weeks of promo before its first episode aired during Jersey Shore 5's first two episodes. That's a huge amount of increased awareness that this Challenge won't see until a few weeks in
Seriously, whos in charge when it comes to schedule this last BMP stuff?
I mean RWST episode 3 was aired at 4th of July. This premiere was aired at the day of the final of BB14 and the premiere of Survivor.
Poor, poor, poor choice to air against Big Brother finale.
I'm thinking that's why the ratings aren't that good..Hopefully it'll be better next week.
I definitely thought it was a bad idea to air the same time as BB, considering I'm a fan of both and I watched BB because they don't EVER re-air that ever... so I just figured I would catch the rerun of this and watch BB. Maybe others did the same and it will pick up next week? Ugh, I hope so, this show CAN NOT END!
Freaking honey boo boo killed it.... *SMH*
There goes our reruns, aftershows, and online clips out the window. Compared to exes entertainment wise this should have been hitting 1.4. I think this season will be way better than Exes.
Small consolation, at least it was trending pretty well on twitter last night.

I don't watch Big Brother but I know at least one person that does and he did the same thing as you. If I did watch that would be my move too. Still, I don't think that can account for a .5 difference from exes.

I know, I hate that Honey Boo boo **** soooo much, I don't see how anyone can like that show.
You don't know necessarily yet if the ratings will be this bad ALL season (although I did say that about St Thomas and look how that did?) but maybe ratings will pick up when fans of the show see the rerun of the premiere and then will watch next week cause they couldn't watch this week cause of BB.
WE can only hope. This is a terrible start though. I don't know if a challenge has ever bounced back from something like this. We will be lucky to hit 1.1 at any given time. That many people really though exes was a better concept than this?

I go on another forum which is all about reality shows in general and there are lots of people on there who watch both this and BB.

I think Big Brother was a huge issue.
I like this concept better than Exes but I'm not a fan of this many "new" players. There's 3 teams where I don't know a single person (SD2, NOLA & St. Thomas).
I don't want JEK and company back every time but you need a mix and there one doesn't have a great mix. They really should have added an "old school" RW or RR team instead of the FM team, We'll see if it bounces back--hopefully it does but a lot will depend on when people leave.
This could be Cutthroat all over again. A show I thought was great but nobody watched. Maybe there is something to Johnny, Evan, and Kenny's belief that the show needs to keep brining it's stars back. When you look at Rivals and Exes, they had good ratings and they had a lot of big names. I'd like to think that each show can stand on it's own but maybe they need their stars to carry them.

It lasted 12-13 seasons before JEK. It doesn't need those stars but it does need stars.
If the show needs JEK to survive, I'd rather it just die.
It isn't just JEK though. There's a lot of other people that can create great ratings
Derrick, Coral, Brad, Veronica, Landon, etc. BMP needs to have a mix--they didn't this time. Way too many newbies--way too many. Honestly, some viewers won't know half the competitors. It just doesn't work.
They should have left St Thomas out of this one and used them as rookies for the next challenge
Didn't Fresh Meat 2 get like under a million viewers? And it had Kenny.. All depends on too many factors to decide what is the cause of the drop.
That's because no one wanted to see Kenny vs. Wes as a theme for an entire season.
There are a whole bunch of factors, but the cast on paper is severely lacking big names to draw people in. I mean Alton and Trishelle are fine but that's 2 out of 32.
Shocking ratings considering how great the premiere was, but not so shocking considering it was up against the Big Brother finale and Big Brother / The Challenge share alot of the same audience.
No doubt it will definitely pick up. But I hope MTV reruns it and doesn't give up yet.
Well, do we really know who the stars are right now? Do most viewers even remember Landon? Is Brad a current star? Coral? Supposedly Alton isn't and he is one of the best competitors in the shows history. Is Derrick a star right now? didn't help Cutthroat. The only people I would feel comfortable labeling as star would be CT, and maybe JEK. Even that is up in the air as I haven't looked at the evidence and I don't know what a casual fan wants.

I agree with that part. I usually prefer the rookies when it's been a while since I've seen them (a while being like a few months or so, not a week, lol) cause by then I've usually forgotten a bit about them, so it doesn't bother me as much.
I think MTV and BMP should realize the risk and settle for this. The premiere was great, the timing was bad.
btw. the casual fans crack me up with their lack of knowledge and knowing of the concept of this challenge and history of the challenges as a whole. Some complaints I saw were hysterical. I don't blame them though, they don't watch heavily, only watch for the same characters they're use to - another factor why the ratings resulted like this.
I'm still a little optimistic. I mean it was up against Survivor and Big Brother. BMP Should be happy that they got over a million viewers.
I think it would have a better chance next week.
