Fans and network executives alike always have excuses for poor ratings. Unfortunately the only thing that stockholders and advertisers care about are bottom line profits that require good ratings.
Exactly, but ratings are all that matter in the grand scheme of things. I just wish the excuses up here would stop. Folks gotta realize that people just aren't dialed in to this season. The challenge has had other good shows air at the same time in years past and still got better ratings.

I like the hear all the different excuses. If you don't, you could always just check TVBytheNumbers.com on Thursdays to find out what the ratings are. I do think New Jersey being out of power had to do with some of it.

Alright, but has the power been out in Jersey since Sept 19? That's how long we've been hearing excuses about the low ratings. We're almost at two months of the show airing, and its "Honey Boo Boo", a "Lifetime Special" "Oprah with the Kardashians", "Nancy Pelosi on CSPAN". It's like make it stop. I'm not on twitter, but a coworker of mine says he hasn't seen the challenge trend worldwide once this season. And that pretty much let him know folks weren't watching this season at the same rate as past seasons. He knew for sure Leroy, CT, Johnny, and others have trended worldwide in the past, and season he didn't think anybody has. Found that kinda interesting.
Of course there are always reasons why ratings are low; perhaps, without all those specials, etc, ratings would be higher, but fact is: less people than in the past decided to prioritize watching The Challenge over other stuff. And that's a measurable fact based on conscious decisions. I'm too lazy right now, but I bet that past challenges with higher ratings also had stiff competition of some sort.
Just cause it doesnt trend doesnt mean its not being watched. I tweeted something along the lines of "Cant wait to watch the challenge tonight. That week break was killer" or whatever i said.
2 friends of mine favorited it and i never even knew they watched these shows cause they never talk about it
It's extremely aggravating to see that this show doesn't repeat the next day or almost at all especially for folks on the east coast dealing with the snow.

It's ridiculous. All I see is Jersey shore reruns, the same crap going on and this current season of JS in particular is very dry and thankfully it's coming to an end.
All I ever see when I turn on MTV is reruns of this current season of Jersey Shore, which sucks, something Teen Mom related (since the new season of TM2 is starting this week) or the same episodes of Ridiculousness.
Power outages that affected barely over 1% of the US population at their peak did not cause a ratings change. Sorry, they didn't.
:scratch_one-s_head:
Who said it did? We were talking about reruns not being shown.
and again, I hate that they aren't showing reruns, especially for an episode like tonight.

Actually they showed it once more .... although it was at 2 in the morning
For people like me who had midterms to take a break lolz

I sure hope MTV promotes the hell out of the next episode.....but they probably still won't.

I hope so. However, Monday is the next rerun for this episode :(
There's no episode next week, they're taking another break since next week is Thanksgiving. (not sure if that was said yet or not)
I'm not surprised that the ratings went down again. No reruns + no commercials = poor ratings.

Except that doesn't necessarily mean anything. And no this season is not that bad as you're making it out to be.
Doesnt help that you have to wait a week to see the previous weeks episode either.

My point exactly.

I agree, not only is this a very enjoyable Challenge but this is one of the most unpredictable seasons in recent years. I knew CJ/Zach were going at it in an elimination round based on the preview, but to be honest, I don't have the slightest clue as to how this season is going to play out.
Unfortunately for me I do but I don't want to say if I like how it turns out or not since this isn't the spoiler thread.
Also, you're right as well about BOTS 2 not being predictable which is a good thing. Certain challenges as soon as you hear/see the cast list you've a general idea or how it's play out, good or bad.
Is it really unpredictable though? Seems to me like San Diego cannot possibly lose. Zach is good enough to beat the other guys at the physical stuff and Frank is smart enough (though I hate to admit it) to outmaneuver everyone else in the puzzle type games. They complement each other perfectly. And if all else fails, production modifies the rules of the game to give their Annointed Duo the best odds. I strongly feel like if the Challenge continues, we're going to get a lot of Zach + Frank shoved down our throats for the next couple of years. Hopefully that doesn't turn out to be a bad thing when we look back on it.
I know this has already probably been confirmed and I'm nearly 100% sure of it myslef but I'm assuming they're skipping the episode this week because it's the night before Thanksgiving? They skipped it for Halloween which is not as big as Turkey Day so it only seems logical.

That is correct. The night before Thanksgiving always has a ratings drop.
Yeah I can understand them skipping a week. I just hope this challenge does well. I'm really enjoying it. It's a breath of fresh air after seeing the same people for the millionth time and already knowing the outcome without spoilers. lol. Plus I like the games this time around.
And I think this challenge is only getting better. I'm loving seeing San Diego in the position of having to fight to stay. I didn't think that would be the case from the first two episodes.
Im re-watching the Ruins & I really like Susie & KellyAnne!
Hoping they come back for one of these one day.
Im also pretty upset KellyAnne WAS on this challenge, but for some reason had to leave...
Any updates on the ratings? I'm really hoping the challenge gets renewed for another season. I've been obsessed with them for years.
Not until this afternoon. I am pretty sure they are getting at least 1 more season regardless of how the ratings are though.
