I have found the players that result in good ratings. They meet this set of criteria
1. Must have been on Exes and Rivals
2. Must not have been on Cutthroat or Fresh Meat
3. Cannot be on this season (unless the ratings increase in the future)
The players that meet this requirement are:
CT, Leroy, Tyrie, Robin, and Aneesa
I think people are taking this too literally. For the show to be successful it is about getting a good mix of players. Cutthroat actually had that so poor ratings for that season really don't make sense to me.
These season is "new" heavy but hopefully the season will be as good as the opener and more fans will tune it. I'm just scared to see what happens if most of Austin, Vegas and the misfits leave early

Yep, I beth several thousand people tune in for Those 5 :/
Yup, I missed the Battle of the Seasons last night too because I was watching Big Brother the whole time. Hopefully the ratings get better next week though.
I'm still a little optimistic. I mean it was up against Survivor and Big Brother. BMP Should be happy that they got over a million viewers.
I think it would have a better chance next week.
It wasn't up against Survivor at all.
Real world St. Thomas had viewers that were below 1 million, and got renewed for two new seasons (Portland) being the next, there's still hope that it will get renewed
I think the only ratings magnets for new fans could be RW Las Vegas the new one. The ratings were mid 2 million. And carried into Rivals! Even New Orleans hit 2 million. Those seasons are the ones people wanna see mainly Leroy.
I think if there had been the two different Vegas teams like they were planning it could've helped maybe a little, since Vegas 2 was the most popular season in years, and Vegas 1 could have brought in the more 'old school' castmates like they did with Trish and Alton.
I watched some of it but I turned it off when Frank and Zach started acting like a couple of *** hats and after I realized I didn't know/barely knew who a lot of the competitors were (and the ones I did know, I really didn't care to watch other than Alton, Trishelle, and Nany..she is easy on the eyes)...I only watched the end of the rerun to see Wes get wrecked by Big EZ after I read about it on here. I might give it a try next week but then again I might not.

Real World was renewed far before St Thomas even started airing. Seasons 27 and 28 were renewed in March 2011, even before San Diego started filming. They looked at the successful ratings from the Las Vegas season and ran with it. Unfortunately, the last two seasons have fallen flat and completely disappointed in terms of ratings. I would imagine that if the renewal decision had to be made last season, they would not have continued with this show.
There have been zero announcements for renewal after the Portland season, and I imagine they will be waiting for a few episodes of RW: Portland and their ratings to air before they make the decision whether to continue.
It was against big brother too
No, it wasn't. BB aired in a completely different time slot from RW on Wednesdays.
I was hoping for around 2.1, not 1.1. Hopefully the ratings rise because this Challenge is going to be too good for the ratings to be around the one million mark. Lets go MTV, more commercials and reruns to grab the viewers!
I also think that MTV really needs to step up its game as far as promoting this show. I remember back in the old days they would promote these shows a lot more. They would show reruns constantly, air more commercials...they don't do that anymore and I would think that with the ratings beings as they have been lately, they would really put some effort into letting the public know this show is on and when you can watch it.
They just don't promote this show like they used to and I think that's part of the reason why these shows aren't doing so hot right now.
No, it wasn't. BB aired in a completely different time slot from RW on Wednesdays.
Yeah, it was. BB started at 9:30 (after the premiere of Survivor) and ended at 11, while RW ended at 11:30, and there are people (such as myself) don't like to watch something when there's only a half hour left and you missed the first hour of it...

I thought netkpr was referring to the entire season of St Thomas; as you can see, I said it aired at a different time slot from RW, not The Challenge. I watched the BB finale too, so I definitely know when it started.
Still not really about how many re-runs and commercial spots they do on MTV. People who watch MTV know that TRW/Challenges are still around. I'm guessing the majority of viewers who don't watch anymore probably would say it's because the concept is stale, and the same stuff happens every season. It happens with every show. CSI/LaO, American Idol, everything has to end at some point. Aside from The Simpsons... that one is indomitable.
I still watch TRW/Challenges but after 15 years it's mostly from habit (my first season viewed while on-air was Boston). I wouldn't say anything ever happens that surprises or strongly entertains me anymore.

To tell you the truth. I can agree with you....This show has gotten stale. And it has gotten predictable....And no real entertaiment has comes from it. These shows don't have those big moments and exciting drama that makes people watch anymore. I mean the last time I was genuiely entertained was When JOhn became Ct's personal backpack on Cutthroat and It had been even longer before that. So I get it. These shows aren't what they used to be and people may have just moved on..But I don't want these challenges to end just yet.
Not surprised unfortunately :( I just started watching The Challenge after BB ended, then watched the full episode when it aired the second time. Definitely the WORST possible night to have the premiere.

Assuming this is an 11 or 12-week season, one of the penultimate episodes of the season is going to air the night before Thanksgiving...the timing has definitely not been on their side for the last few months.
I think I'd rather have a premiere start on a low note and slowly work its way up than start high and lose steam over the course of the season. If this is a ten-week season, they're going to end on a very low note.
I totally enjoyed the premiere, I think it was a fresh start, really dont want to consider JEK the stars of the challenge that just increases their egos and think that a challenge is not possible without them, but even if I don't like them some people do and I'm pretty sure they don't watch it because they are not in. I def see CT as one of the "lifesavers" of this shows, there's just some fascination around him that makes him interesting to watch, I know a couple of buddies that just watched Rivals bc JEK and CT were there, and now they just don't watch this new one because there's no one familiar. I just think there are a lot of people that really don't know who the new kids are, and that affected the ratings, also the little promotion they gave to the show didn't help. I really hope the ratings get better.

I doubt they will really be dumb enough to air an episode the night before Thanksgiving, no other Wednesday show does that, I know Survivor doesn't, they usually air a recap that week. These past few years when that's happened, MTV didn't show new episodes of RW or the Challenge (whichever was on at the time), so I honestly don't think they would do that this year with this challenge.
Then again, considering they did show an episode on Fourth of July this year, I guess you never really know?

You obvious arent watching SVU as it does not do the same thing every week. However you're right about the challenges.
And if a WGWTG wins AI again I will be through with it.
Aren't these ratings still good enough to renew? Teen Mom and Jersey Shore got old and MTV doesn't have anything else that would get better ratings than RW and the Challenge. Plus scripted shows cost more to produce.

Chances are MTV will come up with some other show that does better in ratings within the next year or so. Awkward seems to be doing well, but since it's a high school show, chances are once the characters graduate the show will end, or they will unsuccessfully try to continue it with them out of high school, don't know yet, we'll see...
not gonna lie, underemployed looks funny.
that could potentially take the wednesday place once it airs and they see the ratings it gets.
Meh, to me Underemployed looks like a rip off of I Just Want My Pants Back, same sort of premise, young 20 somethings out in the, ahem, real world for the first time, corny jokes, etc. IJWMPB flopped, so I actually wouldn't be surprised if this one does too.
Inbetweeners I can see being cancelled, does anyone watch that? Plus Wake Brothers, I don't even know if that's still on actually...
Right now, other than worrying about the other MTV shows and how they do in ratings, I'm just gonna have to stay optimistic for this season, after all it was on the same night as the BB finale, but all we can do is hope the ratings go up.
Wakebrothers is actually a really funny show. I hate how they moved it to Mondays though...I never watch it now cause I'm doing homework or something. When it was on right after Real World on Wednesdays since I was already watching TV i just kept it on and watched wakebrothers :( Now I only catch reruns if they have them.
I never watched II=JWMPB cause it just looked dumb and the title was stupid.
Not gonna lie, underemployed looks funny. That could potentially take the wednesday place once it airs and they see the ratings it gets.
I think the same thing. I'll definetly will be watching that. And to the other person IJWMPB is a title dude. That show was actually pretty decent. As for Awkward that show needs to die. Nobody cares about Jenna and her stupid choices or plotlines at all.
I really do hope the challenges gets at least one renewal.
