The interest in this season is terrible. I hope the challenge still does well.
In my honest opinion, there are a variety of core reasons for this lack of overall interest (i.e. bad ratings.) 1. This season is following the snoozefest series killing San Diego 2. Even the diehards bailed after that disaster. Coming into this season there was a large group of viewers who had moved on for good. 2. The show was filmed on a tiny island. You don't get the built in local interest vs. a place like New York or LA thus starting out with no real built in geographic fan base. While this had been done in the past, none of them had to follow the epic (everyone should have been fired) failure that was San Diego 2. 3. The DirecTV dispute with Viacom pushed a lot of viewers to stop watching (e.g. me.) While ratings did start off bad, there was no chance for this season to gain any momentum being 20% of the audience was locked out. 4. Upper Viacom management refuses to advertise the series across all of its properties. Thus, if you do not watch MTV in the first place, you probably have no idea this show still exists. 5. The formula no longer works. The Real World is now a watered down version of every other reality show on TV. Gone are the issues of import. This is a series about drunk kids in a big house whose day job is to hit the bars and whose night job is to sleep with each other and fight. 6. Finally, and most importantly - schedule. If you are going to run a new episode of your show on the 4th of July - you desperately want said show to be cancelled.
The crazy thing is the season IS getting somewhat better. I guess this kind of proves the theory that if a season starts off on a bad note, more than likely the chances of it improving its ratings are slim to none... which probably explains why MTV doesn't bother promoting the episodes anymore. It's redundant at this point. Hopefully Portland brings something good to the table because the last thing I want is for RW to get canceled, it's still a good show it just needs a cast that can do what Vegas did to the series.

What a shame, I actually thought last night's episode was the most entertaining of the season thus far.
I'm laughing a little because TLCs Here Comes Honey Boo Boo scored 2.2 million viewers...sad thing is i chose watch that live and DVR TRW.
I haven't watched an episode of this season after the first one. xD Kinda sad how I used to be glued to the television for every Real World, but I think it's the show's time to bow out gracefully after its historic run... the concept is just simply tired out. I'll gladly be tuning into the upcoming challenge though! Maybe if I like that one (I think I will, given the pretty fresh cast they've assembled for it) I can get back into the franchise. Poor BMP... they still have Bad Girls Club, though.
I really doubt hotter girls brings in the ratings like that. I do think that the majority of viewers right now are diehards. Even on things like the Afterbuzz podcast which recaps the episodes, hosts are not even show up every other week. Seems like they can't be bothered to watch the show. The interest in this season is terrible. I hope the challenge still does well.
I think hotter girls would've made a little difference. I had friends of mine that only watched the RW Key West to see Svetlana back in the day. I mean alot of them, so I could only imagine how many dudes were doing the same thing around the nation One extremely hot girl would've brought more attention to the show ala Trischelle IMO, but honestly I think folks have just moved on from this show. I think MTV may want to get to at least 30 seasons of the RW before its completely cancelled though.
Does anybody even watch the 'WakeBrothers? How is that show doing in compared to the ratings of this season?
Does anybody even watch the 'WakeBrothers? How is that show doing in compared to the ratings of this season?
No one knows since the ratings for the 11:00 show don't get released from what I've been told
No one knows since the ratings for the 11:00 show don't get released from what I've been told
I'm still hoping St. Thomas out performs WakeBrothers since that the show isn't about jack ****.
The Wakebrothers is actually really funny. I watch it but now that it comes on Mondays @ 10 (or is it 11?) idk if I'll be watching it. I usually watched it cause I was already watching MTV when it comes on since it was right after Real World. Mondays I'm not gonna be like "Oh 11 pm, gotta go watch Wakebrothers" unless I'm already watching TV at the time. Which I'm usually not - I'm usually out doing something, or over my friends.
Decent jump this week. REAL WORLD XXVII - 1.233 0.7 A 18-49
I'm happy to hear that. I have been amused by the last 2-3 episodes. Season is picking up stride.
I'm happy to hear that. I have been amused by the last 2-3 episodes. Season is picking up stride.
Is it worth catching up on? The last episode I saw was when Swift stepped on a sea urchin.
Don't know what you find entertaining so I can't say. For me it becasue everybody is looking really crazy right now besides LaToya. The relationship stuff has me scratching my head and Trey has flipped the script. I wish these guys were in a location that had them going out more though, things could get really interesting.
Yes, it's worth picking up on. That episode with Swift and the urchin was the STUPIDEST ever. I don't blame you for stopping after that episode... but it does get better :)
Bit of a drop. REAL WORLD XXVII - 1.106 0.6 A 18-49
Is it worth catching up on? The last episode I saw was when Swift stepped on a sea urchin.
That episode was so stupid. Yeah it gets way better.
I really liked this week's episode, but I guess most have given up on this season due to the slow start. Just because these people actually bothered to be polite before they started getting real..
Yea there are hardcore fans I know of who gave up around the prank episode. Shame because this season has me entertained.
Was DC ratings worst than this? I thought they did around the same as San Diego but I'm not sure... The funny thing is MLP is coming in with 4 million viewers over on Hub. Talk about crushing TRW!
The seventh episode of D.C. had 1.319 million viewers and a 18-49 rating of 0.7; D.C. started significantly stronger though.
Experience, please, not expertise. If I were an expert, I'd be incredibly rich and living on the south coast of France with a vacation home in the Swiss Alps. Ah, if there were an easy answer to your question... I think smart people at BMP, MTV, MTV Networks, VIACOM, and at ad agencies are scratching their heads about RW and its ratings. Critics for some time have been saying that the show's shelf life has expired because it is no longer outrageous to mainstream culture and attractive to the 13-30 crowd. I think RW is getting a lot of attention, but I don't think it is in immediate danger. Frankly, I don't know if MTV owns the program, having bought it originally from BMP in 1992, or if BMP retains the ownership. That factor looms significantly for me in knowing how much trouble the series may be in. Among the factors I think bear on the answer to your question are: 1. Is there something better in the wings at MTV just awaiting the opportunity to capture the 10 PM Wednesday audience?
Mtv has successively groomed Awkward into their highest rated scripted show (it even beat Snooki and JWoww one week). Now all it needs is a 10pm spot. Mondays 10pm - Teen Wolf Tuesday - Teen Mom/16 & Pregnant Wednesday - The Real World Thursday - Jersey Shore/Snooki and JWoww We all know Awkward would out gain Real World if given the chance. I can honestly see MTV making Wednesday a comedy night, because right now Real World/Challenge makes it difficult for them to launch comedies.

I Just Want My Pants Back - CANCELED The Inbetweeners - Premiered less than a million viewers. Comedies, well scripted anything is certain to be a higher cost than if they want to play the Real World. Honestly, I can't see the MTV getting rid of the Real World for a few more years because while it's way past it's prime. It still is part of MTV. Kind of like Comedy Central with South Park, Fox with the Simpsons, NICK with Spongebob, and The N/Teennick with Degrassi. While these shows are up there with being the highest rated shows on each network might completely prove my statement false. But that's just what I think. And with last season/current season averages MTV's shows are like this Jersey Shore - 5 mill Teen Mom 2 - 3 mill Teen Mom - Current season 2million Challenge - 1.9 Mill Awkward - 1.8 Teen Wolfe 1.7 Real World 1.1 ABDC - 1.1 I'm not the greatest at math so these are estimates. lol Not a fact just a theory..

In my scenario, they would be replacing it for a FULL HOUR of Awkward. MTV clearly loves Awkward more than Real World right now, otherwise they wouldn't overplay it and not play Real World. Challenge - 1.9 Mill* That number varies depending on the cast.
What about Friday at 10?
Even if Real World Portland is stellar they should lay the show to rest (I am an Avid fan of TRW) but even I know when it time to calll it in. The Real World's main issue as of late is they can't seem to produce multiple solid seasons in a row anymore.
What about Friday at 10?
I could see MTV moving the next season or the 30th to Fridays as a send off.
What about Friday at 10?
Moving any show to Friday is basically a death sentence when it comes to television. It's where any show does not want to end up. Because most people don't turn to their televisions on a Friday night, especially the MTV demographic.
Time to shake it up! House with seven strangers, who are all over 40. The New Real World BLAM!
