The Real World: Washington D.C. is the upcoming twenty-third season of MTV's reality television series The Real World, which focuses on a young group of diverse strangers cohabiting in a house as cameras document their lives and relationships.
The capital city is located on the north bank of the Potomac River and is bordered by the states of Virginia to the southwest and Maryland. "The District" (as it is colloquially known) has a resident population of approximately 600,000. Its population rises to over one million during the workweek with a massive influx of commuters. The Washington Metropolitan Area, of which the District is a part, has a population of 5.3 million, the eighth-largest metropolitan area in the country.

Filming is planned to start at the end of June and will run through late fall 2009, which would position it for an early winter 2010 premiere sometime after the conclusion of The Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Ruins.
While the casting was open to any type of individual, casting directors stated that this season “We’d love to include a person who is physically challenged, an individual struggling with weight issues, someone whose family or themselves are dealing with the immigrant-to citizenship process, an individual who is coming out of the foster care system, someone who is currently grieving over the loss of a spouse or significant other, or a cast member who wants to bring the spotlight of The Real World to a cause or social issue they care deeply about.”
With the show moving the the political heart of America, it would not be a stretch to assume that there will be some sort of activism built into the storyline and they have clearly taken a path to cast individuals that they feel will best offer up those arcs.

Show creator Johnathan Murray has said in the past that he would only do a Real World in the District if there as a Democratic President in the White House and he finally got his wish.
After the craziness that will be Cancun, I guess it is a good idea to head to a more serene setting and go about the business of telling a compelling story with our nation's capital as the backdrop.
