The Real World Cancun
"Real World" heads south of the border LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - And the location for the next season of "The Real World" is ... Cancun. The Mexican vacation destination will serve as the setting for the show's 22nd season. There, the housemates will work with spring break resource site StudentCity.com to serve as guides for visiting college students. "They're going to help give people a safe and fun vacation," co-creator Jonathan Murray said. "They also might have to bail somebody out of a Mexican jail, stuff like that." Production has started on the season, which will debut this year. The show's current season is set in Brooklyn. The recent season premiere was up 18 percent in the total viewers from last year and continues to rank as one of MTV's top-rated shows. "Cancun is a good one to do after Brooklyn, which was a more gritty environment," Murray said. "Real World" producers in 2003 shot an R-rated unscripted movie called "The Real Cancun" that's unrelated to the series. Well, it looks like StuartScott was right. Thanks for the heads up:
Real World is gonna be cast in Cancun, One of the cast members is a really hot girl named Jonna from Tempe, AZ. Shes a waitress and hairstylist that has a bf.
And we actually had a loose beat on this in the casting thread back in September:
Ok...I think I've got it! Real World Puerto Vallarta (or some other vacation destination in sunny Mexico like Cancun or Acapulco.) (It was only a matter of time...)
So let me get this straight, their job (Student City) is the job that former Real Worlders do now? They are skipping a step and getting them right into the system! Not sure how I feel about the Mexico location being I was hoping the series was taking a more serious turn (which it was) with Brooklyn. It feels as though we are retrograding back and fully adopting the Sydney formula (Foreign Country, Contiki Tours as a job.) That being said, I think I got most of my complaining out a few months back and look forward to seeing where this goes...
Cancun seems like a cool city to do it in, but then again it might not follow the pattern of Brooklyn.
Cancun seems like a cool city to do it in, but then again it might not follow the pattern of Brooklyn.
Oh Gosh, I love Cancun. Been there numerous times and can't remember any of it - but I do love Cancun! ;) In the end, I think the location was chosen entirely based on the high level product placement of Student City.
Might be a wild and crazy season!

I guess this season is going back to partying and hookups...
Here is a little Student City action in Cancun with Real World Denver's Colie and Real World San Diego's Randy - from my super top secret source. ;)
Some secret source!!!!!!!! They wouldn't let me play because I was so bad at beer pong.
This is a weird location for me because, as others have said, it seems like they are going back to when RW was all about partying. I thought things were going to change? ps I didn't mind the partying the RWers did because that's what young 20 somethings do.
Randy got hella big. One question. Do you guys consider Cancun to be another out of the country real world? i do.

When will this air on TV? In August? I thought RW was going back to its roots. Cancun is not the place for that.
I was thinking the same thing, TJ. Its like they are regressing back...
I knew it wouldn't last for long. Even if we did have 7 or 8 serious cast members, you can't take them to a place like Cancun and expect a serious season.
Lets not forget, Bunim-Murray Productions already gave us Razzie worthy - The Real Cancun. Maybe this is the sequel? Here are a couple Student City promotional videos from previous spring breaks: YouTube - Spring Break Cancun with StudentCity YouTube - StudentCity.com 2007 Cancun Spring Break
Are Paula, et al. going to try to get themselves camera time this season like they did in Hollywood?
This is disappointing news. Every time they seem to find a good idea, and it works, they manage to ruin it. What happened to the new, serious look on this? Brooklyn should be proof enough of its success. But I guess we are going back to the partying stage.
anyone find some dirt on the season 22 cast members? besides a 'Jonna' I read from another thread?
anyone find some dirt on the season 22 cast members? besides a 'Jonna' I read from another thread?
We are looking into things, but I personally will not disclose the cast on an individual basis (although if you have info, feel free to post it.) Rather, I always prefer to get all the good before moving forward. We will start a spoiler thread shortly once more details start pouring in. Being this season is in Cancun - there will be 1000's of sources who will see them during spring break and it should not be that hard to ascertain their identities.
I think that if this is going to be filmed during spring break, this season isn't going to be anything like what we've seen of Brooklyn so far. But who knows, I could end up being completely wrong.

I might just have to choose Cancun so we can get some dirt. I will take my spy gear (do we know if night vision goggles and wire taps are allowed on planes??)
Stacee, they already started filming.

I am guessing it would be best to hit the town when they are on the job so that they will be easier to spot! :D
Stacee, they already started filming.
wait...RW Cancun's already filming?
wait...RW Cancun's already filming?
Yep, and I guessing it will flim to at least the beginning of May? I dont think its such a bad Idea heading to Cancun. Granted, I would have like Costa Rica or San Jaun better. But the last 2 season have given me hope.
wait...RW Cancun's already filming?
The article says:
Production has started on the season, which will debut this year.
That could mean a lot of things. However, it would make sense that they would be filming as of today with the Spring Break season on the near horizon.

Looks like Brooklyn may be the last season for me.
I agree. Two steps forward, two steps back. I may eat my words later, so I am just going to leave it at that.
I think we shouldnt jump to conclusions. Even thought Cancun is known as more of a partying environment, There is still a chance that this will be another great season like we've seen of brooklyn so far... At least I hope it will.
