MTV did consider rebooting The Real World for the network before opting to go to SVOD. "We love the franchise, but what is so special about it is the purity of it. It didn't have gimmicks, it didn't have tricks, it didn't have all the extra bells and whistles that the days unscripted required to work on cable," McCarthy said. "You have a whole different generation of young people that are growing up that didn't experience cable in the way you and I did. And so we're able to go and actually retell that story, updated of course, with new characters, new tensions, new real-life issues, but still stay totally pure to the clean idea of what Real World was without having to ********** it in order to make it work for traditional cable."

The Real World is being done through MTV Studios and Bunim-Murray. MTV Studios is expected to produce most of its slate  itself, only occasionally collaborating with an outside producer, in most cases someone the network has a strorng relationship with, like Bunim-Murray and Jersey Shore's SallyAnn Salsano.

"So you could turn Election into a TV series?

We haven't gotten that far. Right now, we're focused on traditional TV content. We have over 200 titles, which is the largest youth library in the history of TV. Reboots are happening in such a massive way that this allows us to look at that IP in different ways. The Real World is another great example. When we came back to MTV 18 months ago, Jon [co-creator/exec producer Jonathan Murray] and Gil [Goldschein, exec producer] wanted to talk with us about how to remake that. The Real World is at its best when it's telling unfiltered stories. It was ground-breaking at the time. In order for that to work on traditional cable today, it's going to look a lot more like The Challenge and I'm not necessarily sure that's the ethos of that show. Jon and Gil and Nina [Diaz, head of unscripted] were all on the same page. But that doesn't mean that we couldn't re-create that with modern storytelling and modern characters of today and be pure to the stories that it was originally meant to be. But that's not going to be on traditional cable today; it's going to be on a new platform."

So where is it going?

So where is it going?

"MTV is launching MTV Studios, which will make shows for streaming services like Neflix, Amazon, and Hulu."

Are they gonna put old seasons on Netflix?

So does that mean, they're possibly moving the revival of The Real World toa streaming service?

If they go the route of moving The Real World to Netflix, during filming of the new Real World, they should stop dropping the seasons chronologically, to build momentum for the new season. Albeit, if that's what they are going for.

Its going to streaming services. In my opinion it will allow them to make it more raw & "real" if they cast properly.

It will be interesting to see if it's successful on that platform.

I really hope casting is on point but I’m not going to hold my breath.

Omfg!!!!

Go to Netflix please Smile Also cut the trash casting out and give us real personalities ok? Ok.

If this flops again don’t ask for it to come back like some of y’all do with road rules

DP

I’m kinda here for this! & over at Netflix the show doesn’t have to be extremely successful for it to be renewed either. They have huge budget over there and they give production creative freedom so they better not mess this up.

Yes, and like Lucci said, there's more ability for creative freedom in takling stories. Let's hope all the parts fall to make this happen well.

Netflix/Hulu would be amazing for the show. Having all 12/15 episodes released all at once + more creative control. Shoutout to Marie & Shane for reviving MTV.

I’m actually super happy that Real World, Daria and Made are being revamped and given to streaming services. MTV Studios is a perfect idea and I’m glad they are jumping on this opportunity

The funniest part of the response so far is that people think The Challenge is suddenly going to stop casting people from AYTO and EOTB. If anything they’ll just add these Real World houseguests to the mix while still casting the same

“The show that invented modern reality television returns to its roots. This reconnection to innocence for the trailblazing series strips away the polarization and cold anonymity of social media, the din of the 24-hour news cycle, and the facades of the instafamous culture to find out what happens when seven strangers are picked to live in a house, stop being polite and start getting real.”

it feels so good to hear this again. In the wake of what’s actually popular on Netflix I see them picking MTV Studios up. At the least for a trial run, but this kind of raw unfiltered social commentary is the stuff Netflix eats up

I’ve been teasing this for weeks.

Now back to ghost. Toodles, loves. ❤️

love you Lurker, I said I didn’t want this unless it went on Netflix and look at what mtv did Smile

Wow. I'm actually super impressed that they realized they didn't need the gimmicks.

This is kinda embarassing....

BMP/MTV is like a mentally ill old grandparent suffering from dimentia ....

...

Yup, back to the trash can

Alright MTV! This is good news. I'm excited for this.

Oh and they better not like that ******** anywhere NEAR this show. He had a hand in ******* up the challenge and giving us the worst period of any reality show ever. He doesn't need his stench all over this show. Let him go and move on MTV. He's no good for this show.

Bananas won’t have anything to do w this. TRUST
