I say 1.2-1.5 million not any higher. I felt they MTV didn't plug it that well.
My guess last night when talking with molds was 1.3 - although I hope I am wrong and they hit it out of the ballpark (the ballpark these days is about 1.7 to deep center and 2.0 would be over the parking garage at Fenway.)
We also need to keep in mind the demo numbers as those are really the only ones that count (although it is nice to see a big viewership.)
Say what? It was on nearly every other commercial break
Agreed. They marketed what they had. I'm just not sure the product is something that anyone beyond a specific niche of interest would care about.
That said, they did try and I felt there was adequate ad time (although I personally did not see commercials for TRW on any other cable channel, which means they are not willing to spend the money to attempt to build a new audience.)
Say what? It was on nearly every other commercial break
Yeah...on MTV. I don't know too many people who watch MTV apart from the Challenges and Real World, so they wouldn't catch any of the so-called "marketing".
If they wanted to try and pull in new fans, they should have marketed on other channels.
[strike]when do they typically come out?[/strike]
When do they typically come out?
The next evening, usually.
I see what you guys mean now. I was just thinking he meant they didn't promote it well on MTV. But to be honest have they ever had TRW/Challenges promotion on other networks?
Its the summer. Bad ratings abound.
Compare to MTV Monday @10...
Hard Times of RJ Berger (10pm, 31 minutes)
- 0.895 million viewers
- 0.6/1 HH
- 0.3/1 A18-49

Warren the Ape (10:31pm, 31 minutes)
- 0.555 million viewers

And Tuesday @10...
The Hills (10pm)
- 1.803 million viewers

The City (10:30pm)
- 1.319 million viewers

- 1.8/6 W18-34
...And the Ratings dont look that bad
P.S. I will train you guys eventually to talk about ratings in terms of A18-49 numbers instead of total viewers - B2NO got a .6, not 1.2 million or a .9 (which would be its traditional rating) ;)
Hopefully it will pick up, because that was the best premiere since Brooklyn. But I don't think it matters, the show is pretty much done.
DC had 1.9 million, Cancun had 1.4.
This is the worst one yet.
I expected low, but this was a little lower than excpeted. The Real World has lost a lot of its regular viewers, but I think they can rebound. They just need to market the episodes right and play lots of reruns. Their goal should be to turn the casual MTV viewer into a regular viewer. This season seems like it will have some interesting episodes, so hopefully the will have higher ratings in the future.
I think TJ meant like quality wise, not by ratings.
Yeah thats what I meant, there's no hope for anything ratings-wise. It's like watching a car accident...
Based on other MTV show ratings, The Real World's ratings are descent. not horrible. descent.
They are definitely "descent"ing.
At least they're better about re-runs with this season. They're replaying the premiere 13 more times besides the original back to back airing before next weeks episode. In D.C. they usually only replayed each episode like once at 1 in the morning EST.
keep in mind, twilight premiere was also yesterday. Their main demographic was at the movie theatres. I think thats why they have 13 re-runs spread out throughout so that everyone can watch the first episode before next wednesday's new episode.
I'm not sure if y'all should blame it completely on whether its summer or not. Hot in Cleavland pulled in Jersey Shore ratings on its premiere night.
I think people here are putting the blame on the Eclipse premier than summer itself. Plus, Hot In Cleavland cheats because they have Betty White, and everyone loves her for some reason.
I'm not sure if y'all should blame it completely on whether its summer or not. Hot in Cleavland pulled in Jersey Shore ratings on its premiere night.
...sort of. In the A18-49 demographic, which is the one TV networks use to set ad rates and decide whether to renew shows or not, Hot in Cleveland drew a 1.2 for its premiere and a .9 this week. The total viewers is more or less irrelevant. People forget that Jersey Shore's premiere drew just a .8 A18-49 rating and a .9 overall rating; the show didn't heat up until later, gaining 30% or more each of its last few weeks and finishing with a 2.6 A18-49 (3.0 overall, 4.8M viewers).
My point on it being summer is twofold. 1) College students watch these shows in packs. In the summer, they're not in school. 2) TV ratings drop in the summer for everything. Fact of life. Networks figured this out 55 years ago and began ending shows in May because it wasn't profitable to produce new episodes in the summer.
Finally, the bulk of MTV's viewers come from the P12-24 demo. In the summer, those people are on vacation, and often have no concept of what day of the week it is, I know I never did. They'll just see it when its on. We won't know the specific ratings on the repeats, but we'll know they're doing well if MTV repeats episode 2 as much as episode 1.
Cast Betty White on Real World - that could up the ratings? Hah - hopefully between all of the re-runs it will increase next week.
That's what happened to Cancun last summer - bumped up about 40% in week 2.
B2NO is off about 10% from Cancun, which premiered June 24, and about 70% from Austin, which premiered June 21.
I'm pretty sure I could show a strong statistical correlation between the show moving to 1 hour and the ratings plummeting.

What about Hollywood?
What about Hollywood?
That show aired in the Spring and isn't really comparable to these, but as far as the 1hr vs. half hr format, Hollywood was down vs. Denver 1 year earlier, but up from Sydney, which premiered in the Summer.
The ratings have steadily fallen since.
