I don't see the big deal with that story. Must be Boston blowing things out of proportion again. Lackey is out for the season, who cares if he drinks in the clubhouse after a loss? What is the big deal about Beckett being in a bar until 2 am 2 nights before a start?
I was gonna say, how is this different than Bill Lee's days with the Red Sox?
This is a different day and age. Coming off the worst regular season collapse in Red Sox history, it behooves them to stick to non-alcoholic drinks when in public or in sight of the press. Beckett and Lackey are getting paid a combined $31 million this year and have 5 wins total to show for it. They are an embarrassment to the the Red Sox organization, the City of Boston, The New England region and to the global fans of Red Sox Nation.
Yes, the 2004 Red Sox drank Jack before playoff games. No one cares because they won. Winners get slack...
If you are an overpaid punchline, stick to Gatorade.

As a fan who pays to go to games, buys merchandise and pays the fees associated with my RSN, I do.
For $15.25 million a year (and he is collecting it right now) I expect him to shut the **** up, stay away from chicken and not drink beer in public. Beyond that, I don't really give a **** about Lackey anymore. We will probably dump him in the off season and eat three quarters of his bloated contract.
What is the big deal about Beckett being in a bar until 2 am 2 nights before a start?
Instead of being hungover the day before the game, he could have been working on his mechanics - because God knows his mechanics need a hell of a lot of work...

Save your money. The Red Sox are back to their bumbling ways and won't be winning titles anytime soon. Just enjoy the ****ed up stories that come out of it. :)

Someone else who understands the downside of going to a Tigers game. I thought I was alone here! :D
Some fun stats (a bit old, but accurate) for everyone:
Tigers record after 93 games:
2012: 49-44
2011: 49-44
2010: 49-44
2009: 49-44
Detroit, in defeating the White Sox after the All-Star Break, took over 1st place on July 21st. The same day as last year.

The season has been an absolute nightmare of epic proportions. The only sober native Texan pitcher we have finishes a CG 2 hitter just moments after we lose our rookie sensation 3rd baseman for the year.
The Sox just can't catch a break (unless it involves bones.)
Sooooo I wet to the Orioles game yesterday and saw Steve Bisciotti. He sat 2 seats in front of me.
Pretty good game yesterday too. If I could upload pictures on mobile I would, but I can't do it.
The Sox did not play yesterday. Yesterday was a good day. Any day the Sox don't play is solid because that means they're not losing to the likes of the Twins or the Indians
Anybody else shocked to see that the White Sox have been in 1st place a majority of the season. I mean Detroit has a proven ace pitcher in Justin Verlander and all-star hitters like Caberera and Fielder yet they can't seem to take 1st place in the A.L. Central.
All I gotta say is SUCKS TO BE A TIGERS FAN LOL.
As a pleasantly surprised White Sox fan I love seeing those Tigers fans get all frustrated because they clearly have the best team in my opinion but they just can't seem to knock my boys out of 1st.
You should probably edit the tags and remove 2012 from the Red Sox World Series titles and pretend you never added it.
Yes! I went into this season with zero expectations. I even vowed not to break out my 2005 DVDs in order to combat false hope (I sound like a freakin Cubs fan). Along with a less than stellar bullpen, injuries are also starting to become a bit of a concern. I'm still waiting for the Tigers to get hot and make a late run similar to Minnesota in the early to mid 2000's. At this point, I'm just happy to watch relevant baseball.
Pack it in BoSox fans... sounds like we're just now getting the message but they decided some time ago not to play for Bobby V and sandbag the rest of the stretch. Whatever happened to professionalism?
If the White Sox win the A.L. Central that would definitely be a huge upset because nobody including most of us Sox fans picked them to win the division everybody thought by August Detroit would of taken control and dominated the rest of the season, but as of today the Sox have lead the division a majority of the season and currently hold a 2 game lead over the Tigers. If they do hold on and win the division Robin Ventura better win Manager of the Year he is a true rookie manager meaning he never managed or coached in the majors he's an ex-ballplayer who knows the game. But the key for him to win Manager of the Year is that he managed a team that had little expectations going into the season and on paper had little talent on the team.
I think it should be like College Football. When a player gets caught doing PEDs, their team must vacate all the wins that said player participated in during that season.
Melky Cabrera of San Francisco Giants suspended 50 games
The NL is going to have home field advantage this year (Cabrera - All Star MVP) because of this cheater. That just doesn't seem fair.

Well, the AL got destroyed. The NL would have won if they had someone else instead of Melky.

Baseball is not like a toy train, which moves along a linear path even if you swap cars. In the first, had Cabrera not been juicing and struck out (or another player that replaced him struck out) and then with no one on, Verlander doesn't pitch from the stretch and gets Braun (another juicer) it would have been a different ballgame. If Verlander gets out of the first unscathed, maybe he comes out for the second and takes the side down on 9 pitches. You just don't know.
Baseball is momentum based and if you remove the advantage Cabrera brought to the game, it is a different game.
In any event, the NL should vacate the game and have Cabrera return the MVP trophy.

Not that it will actually happen...

Not worried about it at all. The last few years, the Tigers have gotten HOT in the 2nd half of the season. As of now, we're keeping the pressure on the White Sox. I think we'll make our move fairly soon and hold 1st place til the end of the season.
Lucchino: Valentine will not be fired this season
Of course he is not going to be fired this season. What's the point? Might as well wait to October to can him.
Too bad we couldn't fire Beckett, Crawford and Lackey. We could pay the entire Padres organization with the freed up salary...
San Francisco Giants star outfielder Melky Cabrera mounted a campaign to avoid his 50-game suspension that included a fake website featuring a fictitious product in an effort that was quickly uncovered by MLB investigators

Looks like Crawford will have TJ soon, so yeah, another 100+ games of paying him to do nothing.
By the All Star break I am sure we will be getting news that he blew out his ACL during rehab...or heck maybe he comes down with vertigo like Nick Esasky.
The only reason Red Sox fans are still watching baseball this season: Yankees lose 3rd straight, fall into tie with O's for division lead
The Yankees could actually one up the Sox in a regular season collapse only a single year later after the Sox had their historic collapse. Of course, they already have the historic postseason collapse locked up. :wink2:
