Darvish is a wild card. He has never faced the intensity of an AL lineup. He could end up being a 1 or a washout. Only time will tell.
You are right that only time will tell, but I think he is more of a sure bet than any of the other Japanese pitchers that have come to the states. For one thing he is only 25 years old and is a 6'5 power pitcher. I can't wait to see him. Hopefully the Rangers can agree to a contract with him. It has been reported that he is seeking 20 million a year. The Rangers already paid 51 million just to be able to negotiate with him so I say they should just go for it. With the big tv they have they aren't hurting for money anymore.
It doesn't look like a good move on paper from my perspective. This kid is supposedly the next Joe Mauer, probably better with a bat. On second thought, I love this trade!
I don't know if I like the trade, but next Mauer? The guy's not that great of a catcher.
I don't know if I like the trade, but next Mauer? The guy's not that great of a catcher.
Which is why I qualified it "with a bat."
Happy to see the Sox lock up Ellsbury and reward him for this past year, even if it only for 1 year. He's earned the payraise and hopefully he can continue to play at that level and lock in a multi-year deal in 2013.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Papi. Apparently he wants like 14 million a year. I would be shocked if anyone gave him that at this point in his career.
Well the Yankees are looking for a DH...
This is arbitration. So he will be with the Sox this year. They just need to close on the difference. If the sides can not agree, a number will be given by the arbiter. Jacoby did well, but he is probably worth more. Much more... In the really bad news column, it pains me to hear the news about VMart, but that is why the Sox were not in the game last year. Old catchers get hurt. He'll always be a favorite with me on and off the field. Hopefully it is not as bad as first reported.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Tigers reached out to Manny to possibly fill the DH spot with Victor more than likely out for the year.

Wow. Huge deal. The NL is [strike]slowly[/strike] quickly being sucked dry of all its big talent!
I have a feeling the Rangers are going to regret not picking him up when they had the chance. Fielder and Cabrera back to back? I'm not sure Fielder's worth that much (it's only a matter of time before he breaks 300 lbs) but it seems like we're still going to need a DH.
So is Miggy going back to 3rd now?
So is Miggy going back to 3rd now?
That would seem like the most logical choice to me. Young/Jackson/Boesch in OF, Miggs at 3rd, Santiago at short, Kelly or Raburn at 2nd, Fielder at first, Avila behind the plate.
That will be a sweet lineup when Victor Martinez comes back and plays DH next year.
Let's hope so...gotta figure out who's going to take his spot until then. I misspoke though - they would have Peralta at short, Santiago at 2nd, and probably Kelly DH because he can actually get on base unlike Raburn or Inge. Maybe even Betemit.

I don't think they were all that serious about signing him because they want to re-sign Josh Hamilton.
All is not lost! The B's could still repeat!
Let's just say I've been concerned about their play of late.
Bacchus, are you planning on making another fantasy baseball league this year?
Bacchus, are you planning on making another fantasy baseball league this year?
Yes! I just got the email yesterday that signups have started and will get the league set up this week.
Yes! I just got the email yesterday that signups have started and will get the league set up this week.
Sounds good, count me in. Roto right?
Sounds good, count me in. Roto right?
We've always done head to head and I think that it is better format for us being we generally have a mix of casual and hard core players. At least with head to head, no matter how many points you might have scored (or not scored) the week before, you still have a shot at winning in the current week. Of course, I am going to whine about the format about week 10 when I am 2-8 yet have the most points, but I guess it is what it is and having a little luck and rivalries on a weekly basis seems to keep more people active over the long haul.

Frankly I prefer H2H, I just remember how against it you were midway through last season. I am fine with sticking with it though. Now we only need 8 more.

I'll miss you Tek. I really will miss my Captain, Mr. Thunder Thighs! That definitely is one of his most memorable moments.
I really will miss my Captain, Mr. Thunder Thighs! That definitely is one of his most memorable moments.
Thats only because sox fans like to forget he ended the fight in a headlock.
Thats only because sox fans like to forget he ended the fight in a headlock.
Who cares that it ended in a headlock? Varitek stopped "her highness" from endangering the pitcher. That's what good catchers do. Sorry, but Marquess of Queensberry Rules do not apply to bench clearing brawls in baseball.
