Guilty as charged. It never occurred to me that Diem might actually improve. I think my view of her has been unnecessarily darkened by CT's shadow. I should know better. Lesson learned. Tori still is my favorite to win this -- as much for personal reasons as my belief that she is the most determined competitor overall.
I'm sure Diem has improved. If nothing else, she is a bright girl, bright enough to use a social and emotional game to keep her around when physicality wasn't enough. She's definitely smart enough to know how to improve. I guess it will remain to be seen whether it's enough to go head to head with some of the other women.
I'd love to see Tori win, and I'm hoping the fact that she's hung in there this long means that she's doing well enough that people don't want to deal with her in a duel. I was discouraged when it was initially stated that she wasn't excelling, but I'm a tad more hopeful now that's it's been awhile and she's still there. Anything can happen, though. At this point, I don't think anything would surprise me.
It has to be a careful dance that many do when dealing with the duel, because in there anyone can get sent home and it's smart to prepare for this challenge not only physically but mentally and socially as well. Diem could very well have improved and I've always been sort of neutral with her at times so if she made it to the end more power to her. Never was Tori's biggest fan but my opinion has changed so she could very well win in the end and I wouldn't mind it. Who knows? Paula could win...oh that's right she can't since she went home......
As for V1 saying Diem is doing well, I don't doubt it. I always thought she was an okay competitor, but never had faith in her because I don't see her as a big threat and she has always used friends to get by.
Tori is someone to watch out for because she does seem determined, but as you said herself she has not been doing well so that could change perceptions. But I wouldn't know. I am still hoping to see a Rachel/Tori showdown before the finale.
I don't like Diem just because she gets so personally offended whenever she's sent into compete. Like, there's no doubt in my mind if she will throw another fit if she goes into the Duel. I feel like she might be one of the next to go, because I don't think she's particularly close with any of the guys this year. She shoulda hooked up with CT again or something (I feel like what they had was a definite "showmance" anyway, so why not?). That way she could have pulled him off to bed when he started getting rowdy, like she always used to do on the previous challenges. It's only the ones where she wasn't there (Inferno 3) or broken up with him (Duel 2) that he threw the fists. And it'd benefit her, because she'd have a guy that picked her every time.

Sounds much like me before a cast member told me I was living in the past.
I have no idea if this means anything--it most likely means absolutely nothing--but Derek's mood on myspace is "sore." I don't know when he last changed it, though. If he was in the previous duel, maybe it's from that. Also, I imagine he has someone logging in for him, because his pattern of log-ins seems different from anyone else who is supposedly still in NZ.
It seems like we might be due for some definite spoiler information tomorrow-ish. ;) Here's hoping.

This is true. Although, he could be "Sore" from a mission. You never know.
Here is to hoping though.

good find!!!!!! But yeah that could mean anything

"Sore" first appeared on his myspace on Nov 22. Nice try though. The cast access to the internet is entirely tied to when and if the cast member is interviewed by production at their location. They are granted a few minutes of internet access in a controlled environment.
Thanks for clarifying, V1Man. I'm not the world's most diligent myspace checker. I figured there were certain days that the cast seemed to log in, which is why I was thinking someone other than Derek has been using his.
Interesting about the whole MySpace logging in. Just based on the fact that I have NFI where this Derek character originally came from (I remember he hooked up with Paula once and that's about it), he does not need to be there any longer. B-raddddd for the win. But I'm not even opposed to Landon anymore.

I want Derek to be there still. Do I want him to win? It wouldn't bother me. Brad, Landon, and Mark are all people I would rather see, but Derek is fine by me. 8 more days of filming, :). Just as long as they outlast Evan.

Actually, Dec 8 was the originally ticketed return date. They may finish before then. Everyone there is ready for this to end.
So there's 6 males and 6 females left?
And when you say "ready for it to end" are you possibly implying that there may be 4 more Duels, 2 for each sex, then the final mission featuring 4 of each sex possibly partnered up?
I dont know, just a thought haha. Maybe I'm thinking too far into it.
But V1 was I right awhile back when I said Derek sent Dunbar home? I just want to make sure before I start hoping for for Derek to win haha

I bet they are. The cast remaining must be extremely drained seeing as how this has seemed to be one of the longer Challenges.
I hope that they still have a 4 person finale. This way we can enjoy a long season.
Morris1721, when V1 says they are ready for it to end, I am thinking he means that this Challenge has been a long one, and they want to go home. Maybe you are right.
And from what we have been told, yes there are 6 people of each gender left.

I think this challenge will air in 8 episodes (1 hour long)
I think this challenge will air in 8 episodes (1 hour long)
Well, I think it was said that those were the number of episodes in the contract. Lets assume there are 8 episodes, that would be 3 eliminations per episode, and the last episode being the finale. Of course this is assuming that there will be 4 people in the Finale. To me that is kinda ridiculous.
I am shocked to see Brittni still hanging in there. We were told that she is paired with the favorite to win, but I would have never expected the showing Brittni and Kim gave.
I thought it was 12 episodes that were ordered for this. Each of the first 11 episodes has two people sent home. The finale would be Episode 12, with two people from each gender still in the game.
I know it is impossible to have read or remembered all the pages in this thread, but while a couple of people wrote that they "thought" (meaning they pulled in out of their *****) there would be X number of episodes, they don't know. I don't know either.
No new contract for this challenge has been reported in the usual media, and there is no mention of a challenge contract among any of the VIACOM press releases. The contract for "The Island" may have included and option for one or more additional challenges. No one at BMP or MTV has reached out to clarify the situation.
The current cast and crew were informally told that this this challenge could be the last if its ratings were similar to The Island. I can only assume the purpose in telling them was to motivate people toward making a better show. That comment coming from an executive producer does suggest that any contract (which should identify an actual number of episodes) may still be pending. [FYI -- this is the paragraph that keeps this discussion in the spoiler thread]
Vevmo may have done more to promote The Island than MTV ever did. Hopefully, we will not feel quite so lonely when we promote the challenge next year.
The editors could cram the challenge in as few as five hour long episodes and crap would be the result. A more comfortable approach would be to show two duels in each one plus the finale. While a few might be inclined to count the number of cast members and declare a clear number of episodes using the power of their math skills to divide by two, the fact is that only one of you have actually correctly told us that you know the design of the finale. If anyone now feels the need to speculate on that, please take it to the speculation thread.
Yay come on diem!!!!!!
I'm no big Diem fan nor do I despise her ...... but people do not just change overnight (although editing does). With that said, Diem is imo a decent athelete .... but she has taken the low road in past challenges .... same as Evan (that being in depending on alliances instead of your own skill set).
I just find it difficult to believe that "friends" of past challenges and shows (i.e. Diem, Evan, Paula, Brad, Tori, Derek, Mark, Rachel, Jenn) would not catch each other's back. Some of the daily challenges from the past (Duel 1, Inferno, FM) were team (M/F) challenges, with the winning team being immune for that day (depending on if it was a M/F elimination day). This is imo Brittani's only saving grace since Landon is not in the "big alliance". Still, she has to be a pretty decent performer to (a.) team up w/Landon and (b.) if they have indeed won a daily challenge together with the level of comp that is there.
As for the duel format, I will not speculate (go back to page 59 of this thread for that .... but I have always envisioned and wished for a challenge where M/F teams were made (like FM) and they would compete in challenges w/ the winning team that day immune. Then in a tribal counsel format, teams would be spared until 1 team was left. That team would pick an opposing team to face in a dual elimination (1 male elimination, and 1 female elimination). The team that is left to pick an opponent would not deliberate together, but instead ..... they would have a day where the male gets to pick the opponents, and the next, the female would get to pick. These eliminations would be seperated, and the M winner and F winner of the ER would form a new team.

Darock, people have set a different options for the number of comments per page. I, for example, don't have 59 pages in this thread. I only have 15. It will help if you just give the number of the comment.
Derek going home doesn't phase me. Although I would much rather see that Evan is gone. Jenn going home sucks but I didn't think she was going to win anyways. At this point, besides Evan, I don't know who I would rather see go home. I like everyone that is there.
Not surprised about either of them. I wonder if Jenn's departure will impact Rachel's game, I would guess that if she was anyone's target, her and Jenn were a target as a package deal and people would go after Jenn first because she is easier. So without Rachel potentially having a shield, I wonder how she will do in these last few days.

Same here. It doesn't surprise me that Derek went home, cause all the guys that were left are strong competitors also.

More likely there is now additional room in Rachel's bed for Aneesa. Three in one of those typically small challenge beds is a little crowded.
(Yes, I know the above is very catty, but what the Hell...)

And that's not even allowing for whatever was going on with Paula and Jenn's newfound closeness. So...I guess Rachel and Aneesa have reconciled. Yeesh.
What would be the fun in these things with no cattiness?
I'm so curious to know who took Paula and Jenn out. April seems so far away!
