The only thing with that is, the exes teams they have aren't that great imo. Not to carry a whole season like the exes from the first one did. I mean there are a few good ones but ugh they need to wait and do an Exes!
Rivals 2 rivalry were wack but it still increased ratings and saved the show. MTV doesn't care because they know the format by itself no matter who they cast will bring ratings and attract viewers that have never seen the show. So if this ratings don't increase don't think BMP is going to be as creative next season.
They will play it safe. What increased ratings after cutthroat? Which season after Rivals help maintain and increase Ratings? Which format help increase ratings after seasons 2? What saved The real world, got it renew for season 30 and increase ratings? Ohh yeah let stick with Rivals and exes since they did rivals 2 they will go with exes.
By the way this assuming 2 things:
1. This season doesn't increase ratings by the next episode or 3rd episode and MTV stop showing reruns, etc.
2. That this season do bad in ratings and the show doesn't get cancel.
I am still keeping an opening mind and hoping they show a lot of commercials for it this Sunday during the awards. That will increase ratings for next episode. I have a feeling is going to increase, I am having an open mind about this because by what I heard is a great season and I love the first episode.
Maybe if they didn't cast boring people like Brandon, Preston and Chet and instead casted Darrell, Mark and Tyler the ratings would have been a hell of a lot better.
Rivals 2 teams weren't even decent let alone great and that worked for ratings because Johnny and CT came back
To increase ratings you have to bring back people that weren't on the prior season that people care about. Just the way it works.
Exes 2
Thomas & Hailey
Cory & Jenny
Jay & Jenna
Dustin & Jessica or Emilee
Zach & Jonna
Jordan & Nia or Sarah
Swift & LaToya or Jessica
Cohutta & KellyAnne
Knight & Jemmye
Marlon & Nany
Eric & Devyn
Johnny & Averey
Wes or Leroy & Theresa
CT & Laurel because it seems like everyone else he hooked up with is done.
Like I rather not with this. I'm gonna need for them to get creative and get with the casting. They have a lot people wanting to come back next season so give them a chance.
Theres not enough mix of old and new!

No, Rivals 2 had people like Preston and Anastasia and did very well. The lack of promotion was the problem. Let's not act like those three mentioned are rating magnets, though I would love to see Darrell back.

We had Wes and Diem to make up for it.
Lack of promotion and lack of well known names was this Challenge's undoing.
I was sick of the constant teasing of the diem/ct storyline stuff too it's hard not to be. BUT it really does bring in a lot of people that normally don't care about the show. Their are a lot of "shippers"as they put it that only tune in for their couples. Two huge fanbases that are dating and had some crazy storyline where this guy who is considered a complete a hole treats this girl great during her hardest time(duel 1)....
The sad part is, the exes cast doing an exes challenge theme so that's two straight exes things for them, probably would get a lot of interest. My point is that you have the regulars who will watch no matter what, and you have the people who watch for specific people and couples.
Having legit commercials would have helped too. But if the ratings stay bad and has less airtime for the people we all complain about that get too much airtime, it kind of shows why they get what they get. It's kind of an interesting experiment each season i like looking at that type stuff.

Its just simply not a good balance of old and new! Rivals 2 was a decent balance of old and new. BOTE was a decent balance but defiantly had more old school which they kinda had to sense a lot of the exes couples were from older challenges.
Rivals 2 had 9 old school players and Free Agents has 5 and 2 of them haven't been on a challenge in years. I think 10 old school players a season and the rest new is a good balance.

I agree. It takes years to get used to the new kids. I remember not being a fan of JB up until The Ruins and that was like his what 5th challenge?

That's a good point, do you know why? because the rookies always go home first that's the unwritten code on the show, so how can people remember someone who lasts 1 episode. Johnny left first on duel 1, as most rookies do. Same with a ton of people. But they have to come back the next one, and they have to be good enough to at least last till the 3/4 point of the show, or it's hard to remember them out of 30 people. So they have to be good as well or they just don't get enough time for people to care.
Johnny happens to be a real outgoing guy who is entertaining and we got to see that through him coming back and making it far every time since that duel 1. A lot of the new kids can't be consistent and last far each time, so it hurts their "visibility" towards the audience.

They were creative this season if ratings don't increase then don't expect them to be creative again and Just expect exes 2 assuming they do another season they will play it safe.
Exes and Rivals are reliable themes because any one can related to it and even if they haven't seen a season they will be like let me checkout.
I don't think the cast is responsible for this, its MTV fault for lack of promotion. Since I saw the trailer I wrote it on here the trailer was horrible to attract newer viewers they hardly show anything other than competition.
Its only the first episode ratings are going to go up.

But its getting better and its all in the editing.
I'm mad that BMP brings back Cohutta and Isaac but they don't get flashbacks like other competitors did. They have been gone for 3-4 years even with us remembering them not all probably did so a refresher would have been nice. To see what they've been up to and why they came back and what not.

I think something like Brains/Brawns/Beauty could work. I think they could promote it well and it would attract viewers. Add at least 10 decent old schoolers with some new schoolers and I think the show will do good. And if this season gets better, they could keep The Draw thing.
You guys make it seem like old schoolers are the solution for ratings, when its not if they havent part of this shows since the first rivals then most likely they don't have the fans of the target demographic MTV wants.
People literally were asking Camila and jemmye what season Robin was part of or if she have ever been on the show and she was on exes like wow.
I don't expect 10 old schoolers to come or ask back maximum will be like 5 then people like CT/Zach/Nia/nany/jonna/jordan/sarah/Etc mix with explosion cast members.
Solution: better promotion.

They also need entertaining people who have lasting power and won't get eliminated early every time. Or no time to develop them....But yea, this trailer was bad imo, and this promotion was bad imo. if i didn't already know about vevmo and was a regular, i wouldn't have known barely a thing about this challenge before it aired. I don't watch anything else on MTV though besides the challenge so i guess i am in the minority so it's hard to see many commercials. I watched some of explosion purely for commercials for the challenge
I want Darell back, but adding him or even Derrick wouldn't equal a ratings explosion even if they are really good...Wouldn't hurt, but adding 1 or 2 old school people wouldn't hurt the mix of old and new. Mark long for "retiring' was all pissed he wasn't on last challenge so clearly he never really retired, and the way he left his last season, i feel he doesn't deserve to get more time no matter how many old man jokes he makes about himself to make people laugh that's all the guy seems to do..

It doesn't really matter what demographic MTV wants, they should be caterng to the demographic that has been giving them good ratings back in challenges like Duel 2 and Ruins.
Old schoolers are needed and will always be needed until people like Leroy and Zach eventually become true veterans and that doesn't happen in just 3 challenges.

I think its part of the solution. I mean Rivals had 14 old school players and Exes had 12 old school players and Rivals II had 9 old school players and those seasons did good. Now Seasons had 7 but only 1 was current at the time and 2 hadn't done a challenge in years, one was a rookie, and the other 2 were just whatever. (If only Sydney would have stayed). Free Agents they have 5 old school players and two haven't done a challenge in years. The 3 they have are good but this premiere was lower than seasons! So shortage of old school players is a problem. Lack of promotion is a even bigger problem! I'm not saying put all of them on there but like I said at least 10. While the demographic is young, Mark, Darrell, Brad won't hurt the show eapecially if CT, Bananas, or Wes is there!
Obviously their target demographic is the most important one and that's not the fan base of any schooler that was on this show prior Rivals 1 and haven't been on the show since then. How many people from Rivals 2 were old schooler that haven't been on a show prior the first rivals? I am not counting Trashelle because she was on seasons. Those people have the current target demographic as fans. Do I see some old schooler being on the next challenge? Yes. Do I see a lot of them? No.
I just see maximum 4 surprises like cohutta did this season then people that have been on a challenge since the first Rivals and a couple of rookies. That's your cast for season 26.
They would never go with a cast full of rookies like seasons 2 or cast with at least half of the cast of people that haven't been on a show prior rivals 1 that's to risky for them rating wise. It will sink it more.
This season needed it more promotion than rivals and exes because its not a reliable relatable theme/format. That will attract ratings with just the names like rivals and battle of the exes.
Promotion was horrible:
Not a great a trailer, not great promos, not an special, marathon and nothing that add hype to the show.
Like come on what was the need to air the snooze fest of explosion Reunion on Monday and Wednesday.
Used one of those days to air an special with Snookie as horrible as the sounds that woman have millions a followers a tweet of her gets more retweets and favorites than the amount of followers Brad/Robin/Dqrrell/Preston have. That's promotion there, a tweet of her telling people to check her out on MTV doing an special like she did for Rivals 2 will make people tune in .They did last season why not this season.
I still can't believe this show got beat by The Cleveland show.
But isn't The Challenge MTV's highest rated show other than Teen Wolf?
Awkward is MTV's highest rated show. Teen Wolf is its second highest rated show.
Probably 70 percent of the viewers who watch challenges now wouldn't recognize someone like Darrell because they were 5 years old the last time he was on a show LOL.
Anyway, we need ratings to do well because if they tank this will discourage them from making awesome formats like this one and we may go back to all the paired teams crap we have been watching since the first Rivals blew up. Format wise my last favorite challenge was Cutthroat but the ratings were bad and we haven't seen anything like it since.
Did she really say that?
YES she did :); she said "I'm Heart Broken" when Johnny and Camila won Rolling in the deep mission and she said "I'm mad at the world" when she lost the Lube me up challenge.
Sorry to be off topic.
Shadowing what PinkRose has been saying , promotion was terrible. They had the right idea by taking their trailers to buzzfeed, huffington post and EW but they should have done a preview show and showed more commercials
I also don't think they should have moved it to Thursdays. Yes there's a lot of competition on Wednesdays but if your last two shows [Rivals 2 and Explosion] pulled in better than usual numbers, why change it? If its not broken, don't fix it.
what's the sudden urgency of some this vets to get on the show? On past challenges mark didn't seem so desperate but now just looking at his tweets he really wants to comeback, same with derrick and darrell.

And you think those viewers recognized Isaac, Cohutta and Emilee? Hell no. More people would recognize Darrell than those 3.
Regardless of what "demographic" MTV is targeting they need to realize that all they need is a 45 second clip of Darrell, Mark, Robin, etc to get people interested. I enjoy seeing rookies even though I don't watch The Real World. They could easily bring in 5 (Mark, Darrell, Robin, Derrick & Susie for example) next season along with CT, Johnny, Aneesa and other veterans that are regulars. Watching old school veterans try to adjust to the new kids having control is great drama that isn't staged. MTV's simply making a mistake regardless of what some believe.
Now, yes, promotion sucked and that is a factor but a simple adjustment to the cast and the draw in a large segment of people that would tune in just to see someone like Darrell or Coral or whomever. They exist. They have fan bases.

I don't even think The Draw was a problem because they hardly even promoted that part of the game. They did nothing! Thats the problem.
Old School vets (the popular ones with status) need to come back asap! I mean I'm still trying to figure out why Isaac is on Free Agents. It just makes no sense. Hes so weird too!

Or giving us Camila on Cutthroat over anyone else that wants to do a challenge lol
These numbers make my heart sink. I LOVED the first episode & appreciated the format change up, so I hope & pray the numbers start to rise so we can see at least 3 more seasons.
That's too bad but Thursday will forever be #scandalthursday... or at least until Scandal is over.
