The Challenge : Battle Of The Bloodlines - Ratings

Even though they not primarily competing against each other, it still can be said that VH1 drags their sisters in the ratings department . I weirdly believe this: MTV- targets white college kids VH1- targets black teen or college females/males BET- targets black families

MTV targets 11-14 year olds like idiots & have said this numerous times.

VH1 is on point with their target, although I would say they target the older ratchet crowd as well lol

BET doesn't know their target, they play movies & reruns all day.

Please Graphik (love you) but if Darrell showed up on Bloodlines the ratings would still be 548,000. If Arissa was on there the ratings would still be 548,000 if not less and she would get a "who?" from a few people. Because those who recognized her on YouTube I doubt will really watch the challenge to see her on there. She isn't even on social media lol

I say with ratings this bad, they need to keep casting Nany, Bananas, CT, etc. those with an impressive following because that following will continue to watch and we need that. Us diehards will always watch. It's these younger (newer) viewers we need. Which is why I think they cast AYTO because their core audience watches that.

Now Bananas does need a break I will admit and I hope for season 29 they go for an appearance rather than him showing up because he just doens't do much for me anymore. CT I want to see more of. I think we all do. People from Skeletons I think will make a difference. As well as Portland (they've been absent here it seems or atleast Nia) and maybe even Cancun. Those cast members from recent seasons have followings and could bring in some of the audience and get people excited and ultimately bring something new to the show. I'm sensing that BMP/MTV are liking this whole casting more rookies thing because we've seen with Rivals II to now. A lot of rookies in one season. They provide new storyline and drama.

Lmao you got Arissa & Irulan confused. But I noticed they gave Kellyanne no real re-introduction at all, just like Cohutta/Isaac/Emilee on Free Agents. If people don't know them, they'll have to get to know them like longtime fans have had to endure all these other randoms coming out of nowhere. But that's moot at this point b/c unless they have a connection to someone still doing the shows, they won't be coming back unfortunately. It's a ******* shame.

I don't have an answer on what they need to do honestly. I just know that what they have been doing is not working. At all.

Its a network problem , I feel like MTV needs to do something to put themselves back on the map

I think a perfect way would be to go back to basics: becoming a MUSIC channel again & making the RW/RR/Challenge a priority like they used to...but that's just me.

Damn. a 0.35? That is just plain terrible. I remember we used to freak out when the Challenge got under a 1.0.... these ratings are just pitiful.

But during those time (seasons 2) MTV ratings were way better. MTV still had Jersey shore that was pulling a solid 3.0 and Teen mom was pulling around those numbers. Now teen mom pull .9-1.2 and its their highest rated show lol

If MTV finds a way to pull themselves back on the map, I feel like it would all of their shows that are getting the same ratings and even lower.

Umm how about Finals???

As in College finals? Like they can't stop for one hour and watch their show.

I don't get MTV as part of my campus cable.

Now hopefully all of the superfans on here who kept blaming MTV for poor ratings will finally understand it's not a matter of "bad promotion" it's that the brand is weak and people just don't care anymore.  They promoted the hell out of this show with a unique theme and it still has awful ratings.  The show's officially dying and I won't be surprised if the next season is the last one.

The bolded I agree with. Frustrating because I greatly prefer this "type" of Reality show v.s. the Love & Hip Hops, Basketball Wives, etc. but oh well. They should've done right by this show.

Me too. I like competition reality shows out of all the RTV genres out there. Others just don't intrest me.

A 0.58 is pretty bad. But I swear I'm a Challenge producer cause I tell people about it all the time. Especially this season since: A) I haven't watched Empire since the 3rd episode this season. Dirol I missed the last 3 episodes of Season 1 of How To Get Away With Murder and I haven't watched any of Season 2. C) I stopped watching AHS Hotel after the premiere because... eh. And D) I haven't watched LHH Hollywood because this season didn't interest me.

Today while on campus me and three friends were talking about TV and I mentioned how The Challenge is back and that's really the only show I'm watching right now and I got a collective "Huh?" Sad

I agree. People don't care anymore and the production really haven't given anyone a good reason to care either what with them relying on the same people and non-castmembers that noone wants.

Exactly. The same people over & over + they usually bring the same BS to the table. Too much focus on these "fan favorites" & not giving others from their vast list a chance + too much focus on marketing (the little that they do have) to these little 12 year olds who don't give a shit.

I don't mind the same people over again but I'd prefer CT, Nia, Marie, and possibly Wes instead. Also it's time they bring in Sylvia and Violetta. Cory looks to a good addition if he's a regular.

I agree with this too. It wouldn't be so bad if the people they did have on over & over again had personalities....I have never & still don't see what people see in Johnny B., Jenna is a joke, Nany is tired & Leroy is the "safe", dumb token who doesn't add much to the show.

Eh...I kinda disagree on having the same people over and over again. I feel like a show like this shoud have a different a cast as possble from season to season. I mean they could still have returning people but don't have them on 13 ******* challenges straight like Backpack. You do that and even the most entertaining person would start to wear thin. Have them skip seasons and not use them so much so other castmembers can get their shot. I Love Money on VH1 handled this beautifully.

But I do agree that the people they cast aren't even entertaining for the most part. Backpack is uninteresting. Leroy is boring and just doesn't do shit. Nany is entertaining but she's starting to wear thin(and I like her). Camilla is boring, Cara Maria does nothing but whine and play victim etc...There's nothing new and that's probably why so many people don't give a shit....they've seen it all before.

Okay, this was the first premier I've ever intentionally skipped.  For me it is all about the cast and the inclusion of AYTO over Real World/Road Rulers

MTV trying to capture the 12-24 audience shows how dumb they truly are as that demographic is nowhere near as likely to watch TV in general compared to 24-40...specially 28-40.  That's the audience they need for a show like this

You should watch it though. It wasn't that bad lol

At some point I'm sure I'll waste an hour watching it.  It will likely focus on the "alumni" that I don't know...AYTO/Sketletons/Exes (other than Jenna) and I'll be bored out of my mind.

Hopefully the competition is good

Kvm1999 watch it!! Watch my queen Jenna slay your heart out!!

I'm expecting her to be average-to-awful at mission and if she goes into an elimination she better pray it is against a weak *** chick

Bye.

But ********... when is this next Vevmo Game coming out so I can whoop Kvm1999's ***...

They need to stop ******* around and give the 9pm slot back to the show. 10pm only kills it further.

You almost/about right.

I doubt any Vevmo users are Neilsen households, which are the only viewers that matter.

This. But quite honestly, TV ratings are an outdated indicator of viewership. Almost none of the 100+ people I work with have cable television anymore, but find ways to watch shows via streaming services.

Yup,the 10 pm slot sucks

Yep. I find alot of people in that age range don't really watch tv nowadays and older people still do pretty much.  It's a mistake going after that audience.

I'm doing that for the next one, with their 10 AYTO people. Why people think this can't be done no matter how long you've been watching the show baffles me.

I agree wholeheartedly with the bolded.

How many old schoolers, Denver and before, that also includes Road Rules, if really sought after to be on Challenge 29 would actually say yes to doing it?

And would there presence make an impact ratings wise?

Exactly. The same people over & over + they usually bring the same BS to the table. Too much focus on these "fan favorites" & not giving others from their vast list a chance + too much focus on marketing (the little that they do have) to these little 12 year olds who don't give a shit.

Not over & over a la Johnny/Nany/Camila/Leroy, but moreso like Aneesa; someone who could do as many as she wanted & I wouldn't mind because she's likable & takes breaks. The casts should be different but those spots that have to be filled with regulars, those should be going to Wes/Marie/Nia/Cory/CT etc. complex personalities who bring more to the table.

Nope.

I think the ratings depend mainly on the theme and promotion honestly.

Oh yeah...If they do it Aneesa style then I'd be all for it. And I do agree with having more interesting people as regulars it would make the show more interesting honestly.

Here's where they messed up (well, one of the ways)...they should have always done 2 challenges a year with one filmed in the winter/early spring and one filed over the summer.  This would have allowed cast in college to appear as well as building regualars (3 out of 4), semi-regulars (1 out or 2) and keeping others in the rotation (1 out of 4)...introducing new people while building a fan base for others.  People like Frank R would have done many and, as annoying as he is, would have made things interesteing
