Keep in mind internet ratings are huge nowadays. They carry a lot of weight because people like to either binge watch or catch it when they have time on the weekends.
However, I remember when I first got addicted around the inferno time, there would be episodes on every single day after TRL. They'd play like 3 or 4 episodes of the challenge in a row and I got hooked watching Katie flip out.
They need to start playing it more in afternoons and advertise on VH1, BET, MTV2, Comedy Central
It's crazy because VH1 brings in over 2 million every episode with LHH and even then they repeats repeat over 1 million
This past Mon ratings:
Love and Hip Hop Hollywood- 2,597 (in millions)
Black Ink Chicago- 1,928 (in millions)
I know 100% that MTV has been promoting this season like crazy, I've been watching Teen Mom episodes and almost every commercial break have a Bloodline commercial. I personally believe the reason maybe because of scheduling why the ratings suck, who tf premeires a show in the middle of the holiday season.
MTV promoting is promoting it on MTV on their shitty show with shitty ratings lol
The Shannara Chronicles has been getting great promotion outside the network and since August even thought its premiering until January. Thats good promotion, there but it can be as horrible as eye candy lol
This holiday season excuse is bullshit. Ain't nobody doing nothing the first week of December that stops them from watching the show. The promotion was simply garbage and the ten of us on Vevmo watching it online before the premiere had very little effect.

I agree with this. Except I thought everybody watched it online and then some watched it again at 10. I didn't watch it at all so I don't know. Lol
Add the "Neilson box" argument as bullshit, as well.
For MTV current standards is not that bad, I wasnt execting this to get over 1.0. When all of their shows have been struggling with similar ratings except for teen mom.
Perhaps, but it's disturbing considering FA and Exes 2 ratings were around 1.0 for most episodes and this is only roughly half of that.
Most of Exes 2 episodes was only 700k-800k, thats only 200k lost. The finale did got to 1.0.
The most current season of Awkard, Finding carter and FAking it were aroun 500k-600k. CRazy that MTV is doing this bad those shows used to pull over a million not to long ago
Now hopefully all of the superfans on here who kept blaming MTV for poor ratings will finally understand it's not a matter of "bad promotion" it's that the brand is weak and people just don't care anymore. They promoted the hell out of this show with a unique theme and it still has awful ratings. The show's officially dying and I won't be surprised if the next season is the last one.

The brand or the channel lol Because none of their shows ratings are good other than teen mom...Even though those ratings have gone down to

The bolded I agree with. Frustrating because I greatly prefer this "type" of Reality show v.s. the Love & Hip Hops, Basketball Wives, etc. but oh well. They should've done right by this show.

The Challenge brand and the MTV brand. Neither are strong, they're old news. Promoting won't fix it if people just don't care.
Hmm to me these are actually good. Let's be real y'all MTV is an utter and complete flop! All there shows get these ratings if not lower minus Teen Mom 2/OG which I understand because that show has a setup that is more popular with viewers because you see same cast of people each season like Real Housewives and the Love and Hip Hop franchise.
I was expecting around 800K since it's the premier or even at least 750k, but 548k is just awful.
This is my favorite show and to see it do this bad just sucks. I hope it can rebound but considering it's December I don't really think that's going to happen. It's not looking good for the future of The Challenges. Sigh.

The Challenge does that too lmao but unlike those shows, doing that for The Challenge hurts it.
But yes, MTV has been a flop. Love & Hip Hop NY stays revamping their entire cast but still gets good ratings.

The cast we see every season for The Challenge though is Zzzzzz....Like Bananas, Leroy, Nany, and now Jenna? Not exactly the most entertaining bunch.
Exactly. The same people over & over + they usually bring the same BS to the table. Too much focus on these "fan favorites" & not giving others from their vast list a chance + too much focus on marketing (the little that they do have) to these little 12 year olds who don't give a shit.

I don't mind the same people over again but I'd prefer CT, Nia, Marie, and possibly Wes instead. Also it's time they bring in Sylvia and Violetta. Cory looks to a good addition if he's a regular.
The fact that Sylvia and Violetta haven't made an appearance yet is ******* stupid on their part. I don't give a **** what "theme" it is.
You don't ignore the most recent season of RW for this long. Now half of the fans that watched that season probably don't care anymore, same with the cast. That has happened plenty of times.

I agree with this too. It wouldn't be so bad if the people they did have on over & over again had personalities....I have never & still don't see what people see in Johnny B., Jenna is a joke, Nany is tired & Leroy is the "safe", dumb token who doesn't add much to the show.
That awkward moment when you realize VH1 has been dragging both MTV and BET in terms of ratings for a while now.... My how times have changed. I guess VH1 got the last laugh lol.
Lmao VH1 did used to be the "alternative", nobody-watches-that channel all the way up until '05. They really did get the last laugh b/c BET is abysmal & we all see what MTV is on.
I believe this is largely due to VH1 knowing exactly who to market to in order to get some ratings. You can take one look at VH1 & tell who their main demographic is.

which dempographic do they target. if it's college students then maybe cuz they're studying or doing finals right now. not the holidays tho.

Umm how about Finals???
I agree with this. Except I thought everybody watched it online and then some watched it again at 10. I didn't watch it at all so I don't know. Lol

As in College finals? Like they can't stop for one hour and watch their show.

Omg daamn this ratings are terrible.

Anyways I bet Real World 31 will have better premiere ratings. #OOPS

There's no saving MTV, like that Shannara show is gonna flop just as well.

My how times have changed. I guess VH1 got the last laugh lol.
All three channels are owned by Viacom, so they aren't direct competitors. They each try to target a different demographic.
.....you don't get it.

You can tell they are putting all of their eggs on that bag lol That show is ctually getting insane promotion compared to other shows.
Similar to eye Candy, but the show with all that got these same ratings
Even though they not primarily competing against each other, it still can be said that VH1 drags their sisters in the ratings department .
I weirdly believe this:
MTV- targets white college kids
VH1- targets black teen or college females/males
BET- targets black families
I'm hoping it flops so The Challenge's ratings start to look a bit better (or less worse) lmao.
I could see it getting similar numbers to Scream, but I feel like that show is too expensive to be pulling those kind of numbers.
