A friend of mine just gave me the blu-ray. I totally missed it when it aired this winter. I'm going in blind with no idea what it really is about. Any fans of the show?I've heard nothing but great things from this show. It's on my list of shows to actually watch. I mean, it's HBO, so I don't expect anything less than amazing. . [

I was wondering who would you cast in season 2 of True Detective. The rumor is it's set in California (not LA) and it supposed to have three leads, two males and one female. I would cast a combination of Christian Bale, Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Mary-Louise Parker, Rachel McAdams and Carey Mulligan.
Idris/Mary-Louise and Rachel M. Screw the rest. Bale needs stick to Batman which is cut short.
I read that Season two will be Vince Vaughn, Elizabeth Moss, and Taylor Kitsch.

Two episodes in, and it's okay .
Kind of a slow start, but the hype is too much for me to ignore, and there's really nothing else for me to watch right now, so I'm definitely gonna keep going.
I'd say it is a slow burn, much like The Leftovers in that regard.
Caught up through Episode 4 last night. Holey smokers was that last scene intense. It got all the way to the credits when I went, "Wait...was that all one shot"? So I rewound and sure enough, hot damn that was one long *** take from the time they enter into the crackhouse or whatever it was, all through the shootouts and when Rust was dragging Ginger around, up until they got into the car with Martin.
Impressive!

I like Elisabeth Moss and this she is a phenomenal actress, but I want to see how Rachel McAdams fares in a role like this.
Well I finished the series last night, and I've gotta say, I give it a resounding.....Meh.
I wish I would've been as captivated by it as others seem to have been. It was generating good buzz so I had high hopes. There was really only one or two episodes that I actually could get into. I found myself most times having to rewind and watch the same scenes (and even entire halves of episodes) over and over again to even get what was being said, who they were referring to, etc.
The only good thing for me is, being that this is an anothology series, I'm not writing off Season 2. Depending on the actors they get, I will more than likely check it out, and just hope that Season 1 was a fluke for me.

What can I say? At least I'm not one of those people that doesn't like Breaking Bad. Now THAT would be embarassing!
I loved Breaking Bad when it was good and before it was cool to like Breaking Bad. I just bailed when I started to nod off watching episodes.
I feel the same way about Breaking Bad that you feel about True Detective. Don't get me wrong, I like the show, but I feel like people hype it so much and I just don't understand all the praise.

'True Detective' Season 2 Female Lead Shortlist Revealed
Looks like Rachel McAdams has some competition including, but not limited to, Jessica Biel, Jaimie Alexander, and the newly reported frontrunner Rosario Dawson. I was excited to give this a try when McAdams was initially announced, but Biel or Dawson will just as good as well. Male leads have been locked for a while with Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, and Vince Vaughn. Season two's cast is shaping up to be pretty good, but I still need to check out season one!

Just started this tonight, and I'm loving it so far! Albeit I'm only an episode in though (internet is acting 50 shades of ****** up tonight...), haha! Harrelson and McConaughey are a great duo and I have high hopes for the season, even though OPD scared me a bit! Will definitely binge it this weekend!
Wait until you get to the fourth episode, it's definitely the best one.

Colin Farrell Confirmed for 'True Detective' Season 2
I thought he and Taylor Kitsch were locks, but apparently it wasn't 100% confirmed. I'm not a big fan of Colin Farrell, but I do like Kitsch so we'll see what happens (plus there's a lot of lovely ladies vying for the female lead). The story is said to shift focus from the "Gothic, haunted South" to the "'lesser-known' corners of California."

The cast shaping up to be a good one! Unfortunately though, it looks like scheduling conflicts have forced Rachel McAdams to drop out of the race for female lead. Looks like the battle is between Rosario Dawson, Jessica Biel, and the newly announced candidate, Kiera Knightley. No complaints regardless of who gets it! I do think Rosario will add some needed diversity to the cast however.
Agreed. Very excited that this show is demanding top teir actors. I'm hoping that this becomes a model and showcase for other HBO devolopment, although to be fair HBO has been pulling in a lot of A-listers of recent for many of their projects including Normal Heart and Beyond the Candelabra. It's why I love HBO.
HBO has been absolutely amazing lately, in terms of both casting and show quality. Wrong thread but was Normal Heart any good?
God I hate to be the Debbie Downer of this thread, but I'm not real excited about the male leads they've picked. Colin Farrel, yeah, but Vince Vaughn....I have a hard time taking him seriously. But I'm guessing since they picked him he's got the chops. Now that Rachel McAdams is out of the running I don't feel for ANY of the females in the running, ESPECIALLY Jessica Biel....omg if they pick her...it will be very hard for me to watch Season 2.
