Pizzolatto said the occult storyline took time away from the characters he really wanted to focus on, but there may be some pieces leftover. I read an article that the **** scene involving **** stars will still reportedly involve "satanic sex..." So we'll see what happens.

Overall solid premiere. Not perfect by any means, but I don't think it deserved all the hate it has received. The stage is set for a good old fashioned, corruption-centered, hardboiled detective story.
The cinematography alone was absolutely incredible.

Haha Ray Velcoro really wasn't ******* around when he beat the shit out of that kids dad with br*** knuckles & delivered that line you mentioned above Lurker.
I didn't think the premier was that bad either & don't understand all the hate for season 2 after one episode. I heard things really start to pick up by episode 3. Considering there are four leads this season it is going to take a little longer for the story to develop. Fans need to just be patient & enjoy the ride lol. I will say there is a lot going on with the plot, so it can be confusing at times if your not paying close attention. l for one will be watching the second showing tonight to catch all the things I missed the first time around.
After watching the first episode I gotta say for the characters Ray Velcoro is corrupt as **** for a cop & I am hoping there will be redemption in his future. Paul Woodrugh the highway officer who finds Ben Casper must have a death wish driving his motorcycle at highspeeds with the lights completely off on the highway. I am guessing his character will have an interesting back story somewhere down the road. So far my favorite character has to be Ani Bezzerides a no nonsense sheriff who doesn't take shit from anyone & is a complete bad ***. I am hoping she will be the one to solve the murder.

They are just setting the story... they have a lot more characters this time round that all have their own personal dramas that will intersect over time. It's obviously not gonna be like season one, because its completely different from season one... new cast, new locale, new story. What else were people expecting? Doesn't the original only get good around ep 5 and onward (cause the first two eps surely put me to sleep lol)

They need to quit thinking & comparing the new season to the 1st because it is never going to live up to those expectations. People just need to focus on the new plot & characters let the story completely play out before judging whether it is good or not.
