Can I just say that after Lochte had already swam 1200 m I would have never put him at anchor? When I did relays always put the weakest relay runner third.
And why doesn't NBC show the splits of the other teams? The live feed showed when other teams were touching and how far behind they were off the US team.
The biggest surprise of the 4x1 is that Australia was not on the podium. Lochte didn't slow down...the French guy just got faster.
I have not watched at all tonight, being somewhat jaded. Personally, I don't even know how to view this Olympics. There are 8 channels broadcasting all day, yet what I want to watch is never on and by the time the things I want to see air - I already know what happened.
Sox v. Yankees is on. **** NBC. All hail ESPN and their live coverage.
I'm still wanting to know why they are calling Jordyn Wieber a failure when she barely stepped out of bounds. The rest of her routine was solid. Let's get real here, we all know she's a kick a** gymnast to begin with. At least make the news articles say how well the two that made "All-Arounds" performed.
The gymnastics rule is a bunch of ****. Jordyn Wieber is the fourth best gymnast in qualifying yet can't go to the all-around. It's not fair. Don't limit the gymnasts. It should be the top 8 (or however many) best gymnasts in qualifying competing for the all-around Olympic title, regardless of their nationality.
One of the big reasons I hate gymnastics is the subjective scoring.
And the interview with Aly Raisman has Jordyn Wieber crying in the background...so sad. I feel so bad for her because the media is already focusing much more on Wieber not qualifying over Aly and Gabby, two amazing gymnasts, qualifying for the all-around.
Wait so she didn't qualify because they limit how many people from a country can qualify? What the **** kind of sense does that make? It should be the top times or scores or whatever, period.

Basically, yes. Only the top two gymnasts from each country qualify. So even though she qualified fourth overall (I think a Russian was in between?) she will not qualify.
It makes absolutely no sense. It should be the best. It appears as though they installed the rule in 04 after Romanians swept the podium in 2000 (even though the gold medalist had her medal stripped).
Here is a list of the 24 gymnasts (not 8!) who qualified for the all-around. The gap is where Wieber's score fell.
Viktoria Komova, RUS
Aly Raisman, USA
Gabrielle Douglas, USA
Aliya Mustafina, RUS
Deng Linlin, CHN
Vanessa Ferrari, ITA
Asuka Teramoto, JPN
Larisa Iordache, ROM
Huang Qiushuang, CHN
Sandra Izbasa, ROM
Jessica Lopez, COL
Elisabeth Seitz, GER
Rebecca Tunney, GBR
Ana Sofia Gomez Porras, GUA
Hannah Whelan, GBR
Dominique Pegg, CAN
Celine van Gerner, NED
Carlotta Ferlito, ITA
Yao Jinnan, CHN
Giulia Steingruber, SUI
Emily Little, AUS
Aurelie Malaussena, FRA
Marta Pihan-Kulesza, POL
Rie Tanaka, JPN
So there are 21 gymnasts who Wieber scored better than who are getting a chance to compete for Olympic gold. The likelihood of any of them (outside of the top 5-6) actually competing for the gold is not high.
GREAT IDEA NBC!! What a perfect idea to leave off with the French national anthem. I'm sure those Americans who just watched 5 hours of coverage that should have been aired live LOVED being put to bed with the FRENCH NATIONAL ANTHEM.
Don't leave us off with the US national anthem when Dana Vollmer SET A WORLD RECORD earlier. That would just be silly.
Five high-profile events being covered in primetime tonight. Avoid the Internet if you don't want to know the results of the following:
Men's gymnastics team finals (USA)
Men's 200m Freestyle (Ryan Lochte)
Women's 100m Backstroke (Missy Franklin)
Men's 100m Backstroke (Nicholas Thoman, Matthew Grevers)
Women's 100m Breaststroke (Rebecca Soni, Breeja Larson)
Men's gymnastics team finals:
1. China
2. Great Britain
3. Ukraine
5. USA
Japan misses a medal on the last two routines!! That was painful to watch. They are currently arguing...

Ok seriously
What is it with China winning EVERYTHING it seems? They shouldn't be dominating practically everything...

This is how it normally works...the Chinese specialize in a lot of individual events (like gymnastics, shooting, diving) and medal up early but once the bigger team events come around, they're nowhere to be seen.
This is going to be one of the most emotional pictures of the Games:

Thanks for providing updates molds. I just read them rather than digging through stuff I don't care about on ESPN.
On another note, Great Britain better get things rolling. They were predicted to take home 67 medals and are crawling out of the gate.
Just a side note, I feel soooo bad for Jordyn Weiber :(...that 2 per country rule in gymanstic is soooo stupid!
I do too. It's absurd.

Hands down a very stupid rule. Just watching her cry in the background of Aly Raisman's interview was hard enough.
The first doping issue?

It is really sad! It hurts even more when you think about all the hard work she put in, and how she dominated the all-around a period, and she won't even get the opportunity to even compete in the Olympics, because of a crazy rule. She was punished, because the USA women are a tough team!
They're so strong, that even with Jordyn & Gabi going out of bounds on floor, they still had a 1.5+ point lead, and last worlds they had a 3 point lead (that's a lot in gymnastic).

I'm not shocked to be honest. I'm sorry but it's so weird to me that China all of a sudden became a sports power at the Olympics, and now they're performing well in swimming, where they were not even a factor!
I remember that old report where a Chinese coach admitted to doping, and said "all the countries" were doing it.
Do they not take drug test at the Olympics? O.o

She had her blood taken right after her win, which is mandatory for all athletes.
Is anyone else watching soccer right now? Brazil is up 5-0, but I can't change the channel for some reason.
EDIT: Didn't know it was so close to over, but it was still a great game.
