My twitter feed was also filled with results.
Just about every site period has spoilers. Even websites one would not consider sports related. CNN had a banner across the top of their page with the results 30 seconds after the race finished.
The only way to truly be spoiler free is to unplug.
p.s. Destinee ****** might be crushing the ball over the net for team USA, but I still can't stop smirking every time her name is called after a kill.
Yeah, you're right...the best thing to do is to unplug, or keep it to a minimum. It's really annoying! Especially in todays internet age! They should have given it live, and replay it in the night for those who missed it.
Lmaooooo oh Bacchus now you have me rolling on the floor right now with that Destinee ****** comment hahaha, now I notice it!

The Lochte-Phelps matchup was so highly anticipated, people around the world would have woken up to watch it live. I know I probably would have. It only lasts 5 minutes.
Huge mistake in my opinion. It doesn't seem fair that NBC isn't airing things live, but has no issues reporting about it.

If you go to nbcnews.com - its the cover story! Quite hypocritical. I hope they get burned tonight with poor ratings. I won't be watching as I have already seen it.
We have our first juicy feud of the London Olympics, and they involve two American athletes! Current US Soccer star Hope Solo and former US Soccer star Brandi Chastain just plain don't like each other.
A commentator who better represents the team and knows more about the game? It's not Brandi Chastain's job to blindly support the US team. She's been hired by NBC as an Olympic commentator who should be unbiased when reporting, regardless of her past, and the territory that comes with that is also pointing out the positives as well as the negatives. Julie Foudy doesn't appear to have any issues. Solo needs to focus more on her team than on the criticism.
This would all be solved if Ian Darke did every soccer game ever.
Not even local news is safe from "spoilers." Both my local and the network CBS news broadcast gave away the results of the men's 400 IM (and more.)
You literally need to find a bunker somewhere with only NBC to watch this Olympics and not know what is going to happen before hand with the tape delayed events.

Since it's only day 1, I am hoping that NBC gets a lot of backlash from this and changes their scheduling for major events.
Any medal event for gold should be aired live, in my opinion.
If they push the swimming to 9 or 10 o'clock, people might be rioting in the streets. We are just assuming they are going to play it at 8 PM EDT. ;)
I am sure they are going to get plenty of backlash, especially because it was a Saturday afternoon and would have been available to a wide audience (if Saturday afternoon is good enough for an NFL playoff game, why not the Olympics?) That said, I don't see them changing their tune. They have dug in on this one for the long haul. I can remember whining about this only two years ago with Vancouver and they are pulling the same prank on the viewers now as then for ratings.

Oh, it had better be the first thing they play!

If they are actually going in the order as things unfolded as Costas said, it could be a long wait as it was [strike]one of the last events of the night...[/strike] in the evening.

On any other day, I'd love to watch Misty May and Kerri Walsh. Beach volleyball is so much fun to watch and these two are ridiculous. Not right now. Give me the **** Lochte-Phelps matchup. Not men's gymnastics qualifying. Not a beach volleyball qualifying match. Give me a gold medal matches.
NBC needs to either up their live feeds so that we can watch the important stuff live, show the important stuff live on television, or show the medal stuff first in their stupid prime time programming. Airing everything primetime is not going to work for me, and I suspect a lot of other people.
Of course, their ratings are going to go through the roof because everyone is tuning in to see the swimming and will probably wait through the entire time.
Oh, and then there's this:
Oh, and then there's this
It is terrible that not only is NBC telling us when we can watch, but also what we can watch...
I missed a lot of the stuff they are going to show tonight, so there are things to watch - but I think it is ridiculous that they are going to hold viewers hostage for a 5 minute event that everyone has tuned in for (and has no idea when it will air.)
I had a feeling it would be at the peak of prime time.
I am watching Fox to spite them...
Well first go Red Sox. Second if people are that upset, which I don't blame them. One can watch all the events online.

No, one can't. I tried to watch the 400 IM live on NBC's network. It froze halfway through and didn't start back up until the race was over. It didn't let up after the next race either. I gave up halfway through the next race.
Not to mention it appears you have to have a Comcast account to watch it...
One can watch all the events online.
I was able to watch the 400 IM (in jumpy, 240p in a 2 by 2 inch box) but the feed died soon after that and I was not able to log back in. I am sure it will happen for every race that Phelps is in going forward being that is what people want to see. The demand will be overwhelming.
Not to mention, I'd much rather watch an event live on my 55" Plasma TV in 1080i HD with 5.1 surround than on my laptop...

Not just comcast, direct tv, charter and others. Also even if you watch it earlier, you really did not watch it. Let me explain before everyone yells. Now we get the commentary of Rowdy Gaines.

I don't give a **** about the commentary. Show me the **** event. I don't care about the interviews - they aren't telling me anything new. Michael Phelps is in his third Olympic games. What don't we know about him already?
