Yeah Beijing was much much better! London was a little boring (well mostly boring). I don't think any country can top China, only the USA (because of the money & population), India (population), & Japan very advance technology.
I don't know, I think (with a hint of biased) that I must just prefer this kind of opening ceremony. Believe me, if I thought it was **** I'd be saying it was ****. To me this compares with Sydney as one of the best. But I kinda of get where your coming from because I thought Athens was a snooze, but If I understood what was going on then maybe I'd have enjoyed it. Beijing was just a set of cold synchronized group performances. Which I guess translates universally in terms of entertainment, but doesn't really say much about Chinese culture, bar that they can spend 12 hours a day perfecting their performance. Sorry but us Brits are just too **** lazy for that. I have to say that one of the few things you can compare about London to Beijing, is the Cauldron lighting. London's was so much more magnificent and imaginative compared to Beijing with some 60 year old man flailing in the air. I guess the opening ceremony was just too British, and I would want it any other way, it was perfect. OK I'm very biased.
"Britain presented itself to the world Friday night as something it has often struggled to express even to itself: a nation secure in its own post-empire identity, whatever that actually is... It was neither a nostalgic sweep through the past nor a bold vision of a brave new future. Rather, it was a sometimes slightly insane portrait of a country that has changed almost beyond measure since the last time it hosted the Games, in the grim postwar summer of 1948."
A Five-Ring Opening Circus, Weirdly and Unabashedly British - New York Times
One abbreviation, CGI.
Thankfully the Brits didn't use any of that. BTW: Where in London can I find that frolicking statue of Winston Churchill and what do you feed him so that he remains so spry?

Are they really not showing the swimming finals live...AT 2:30 PM?
2012 Olympic Swimming and Diving TV Schedule
Only three swimming telecasts on NBC are currently scheduled to air live — qualifying on Saturday, July 28 (5-6:00 AM), additional qualifying heats on Friday, August 3 (2-2:30 PM) and the women’s marathon on Thursday, August 9 (11:45 AM-12 PM). For viewers in the Mountain and Pacific time zones, even that pittance of live coverage would still air on tape delay.
They are sticking it to the viewers. This is going to be even worse than Beijing (half a world away) where they actually flipped the schedule to get swimming in prime time. I came into this Olympics thinking I was going to watch all sorts of different events, but now with just about everything of import looking to be on tape delay, I can see myself more and more just reading about it on ESPN.
I came into this Olympics thinking I was going to watch all sorts of different events, but now with just about everything of import looking to be on tape delay, I can see myself more and more just reading about it on ESPN.
I watched a pretty intense archery battle between the US and South Korea this morning before switching to the US-Columbia soccer game. I do like watching different sports, but I'm pretty much here for the big-ticket events. Not showing those live is a big problem.
I remember 4 years ago watching the basketball finals live at FOUR IN THE MORNING, but they can't show swimming live at 2:30 PM? This is ridiculous I mean I know I can live stream and all that, but I don't like streaming live tv because they won't show it on tv.
I do like watching different sports, but I'm pretty much here for the big-ticket events. Not showing those live is a big problem.
I am actually watching archery right now (although I have been flipping to both soccer and basketball.) Obviously swimming is one of the most anticipated Olympic sports (with all the past American success.) I am going to find out the results well before each event is aired. I can't avoid the internet for 2 weeks. That's disappointing.
Are they really not showing the swimming finals live...AT 2:30 PM?
I haven't been able to find it. How delayed is it? ESPN shows the 400 free at 2:49pm.
I do find it interesting that some sports are stretched out while others (archery) appear to be over in a matter of hours. I watched the semifinal match this morning and figured the gold medal match would be in a few days. I guess the argument could be made that archers don't exert the same energy as swimmers or other team sports, but pulling back a bow with the tension can't be easy on the arms.
I haven't been able to find it. How delayed is it? ****, that last arrow was so close to being a 9... The USA starts off with a silver in archery.
There's the US soccer team I was waiting for...

Yes Molds!! I was so happy they won 3-0, especially the last two Goals coming at 60 minutes mark. So far it's been a great day for USA: -Serena & Jon Isner moving up in tennis -USA Women Basketball -USA Women Soccer -Archery taking a surprising Silver (even if they were 1 arrow away from Gold). -USA Men's Gymnastic so far being the top Qualifier in teams, and taking 1 & 2 in qualify individual all-round (Levy-Orozzco, as a Hispanic I'm proud two hispanics are representing the USA & topping the world) in Gymnastic. So far Olympics have been fun! Plus Locthe vs Phelps...EPIC match!!

Lochte* vs Phelps
Gymnastics and swimming are always my two favorite things and not being able to watch swimming live is such a let down. It's just not going to be the same reading it online. I'm too curious to wait until the broadcast...

It's finally running for me... Amazing that there are 8 HD channels currently broadcasting different events on DirecTV and the only one I really want to see is streaming in "glorious" 240p on youtube... I guess we might as well set some ground rules: 1. If the event has not aired on NBC, it is considered a spoiler. Please use spoiler tags. 2. When in doubt, follow rule 1. 3. Follow rule 1, even if you are from across the pond.
400 IM 1. Lochte - Gold 4. Phelps

It's finally running for me...
The first half ran for me. Cut off halfway through the backstroke and came back once everyone had touched. I was not happy to miss it.
The first half ran for me. Cut off halfway through the backstroke and came back once everyone had touched. I was not happy to miss it.
It's a disaster. What did they expect? They decide that one of the most anticipated matchups of the entire Olympics can only be had via streaming? Right now it keeps logging me out and I can't get back in, so my best guess is they are completely swamped and don't have the redundancy or bandwidth to handle the demand.
It's a disaster. What did they expect? I guess I'll just keep away from the Internet for the time being and hope that NBC doesn't completely **** up and mention any results beforehand.

Big loss here. Let the public enjoy the seats that the sponsors obviously aren't filling. Olympic seating: Day one of the Games sees banks of empty seats at key venues | Mail Online
I am watching fencing. It is actually quite comical how they both scream and pretend they got the point to the ref after each attack.

Why did I go on Twitter!?!?! Better question, why didn't Lochte vs Phelps air live!!! I've just been spoiled by Twitter, and I wanted to wait until tonight to watch! I guess I have to stay away from all social media sites until Olympics are over -.-

Even websites one would not consider sports related. CNN had a banner across the top of their page with the results 30 seconds after the race finished. The only way to truly be spoiler free is to unplug. p.s. Destinee ****** might be crushing the ball over the net for team USA, but I still can't stop smirking every time her name is called after a kill.
