I figured they would drop. This season doesn't "pop" like the last. I don't have a lot of faith in those numbers climbing too much either. I think people just glance at the cast and they aren't very interested.
I think people just glance at the cast and they aren't very interested.
No one, excluding Frank, has a dynamic personality. For example, Alex seems like a very cool person and I would love to have a conversation with her about everything she has done in life..but would I like to see her on TV week after week? Not at all. She, along with Ashley, Pris, Sam, and Nate all seem like a waste of space. If they had cast Frank with a person even more conservative than Zach who was actually VOCAL about it (Mike Mike style) then THAT would be a very good way to begin forming the cast around them.
They all seem like ok people to hang with, but when I see them on TV I wonder why they were even cast. Again, excluding Frank and Zach.
I like bold-ing things.
You may have something there. A lot of these people seem pretty cool and I see some of myself in them but that's probably a bad thing ratings wise. If I was on a Real World it would be one of the worst casting choices ever. I think things will heat up later on but I don't know if there will be an audience there to see it when it happens.
The show had much more competition this week. South Park, which always dents Real World's ratings, MLB Baseball, and American Horror Story premiere. MTV needs to move it out of Wednesdays away from South Park, and there may be an uptick if Horror Story drops some audience next week.

In 2007 it felt like 99.9 % of the US population that I know watched TRW. lol

Exactly, they all just seem like average people I sit next to in my 500 people sized classes..nothing special. Besides the Dustin drama last season, I think the ratings were so good because every person on that season was dynamic. Same with Brooklyn, Cancun and Hollywood. New Orleans had good ratings, but only because of the "**** on my toothbrush" drama. The other seasons, had episodes dedicated to each room mates own personal drama and I think thats what views love
New Orleans had good ratings, but only because of the "**** on my toothbrush" drama.
That season got good ratings because it was a great show, looool. The audience grew as the show went on. I loved the cast, it's probably my favorite recent season.
I didn't give two ****s about the toothbrush drama. =p
Regardless of what else may have been being showed on other networks, I feel that the ratings went down because the first episode was not done very well compared to other seasons. While we may have gotten a few of the facts from the various past stories, we were never made to sense that there was any sort of group affinity for each other; none of the cast members IMO were presented in any sort of sympathetic way; and they jumped straight into Frank drama that comes across as the most fake outbursts I have seen on a reality show ever, with more to come in episode 2 and now episode 3. I watched bits and pieces since but just as I flip through channels. Not something I want to see. When I think they will have episodes focusing mostly on the others, then I will watch.
The first episode having a high rating means absolutely nothing in terms of the cast or the episode itself. It mostly means that the last season of the show was entertaining and people wanted to see the next one. They went down because the expectations of the people who watched Vegas were not met.
Or at least that's what it looks like to me.
WTF? The 2nd episode got 700,000? That seems unusually bad, even for Real World.
That would be the result of you losing 500,000 viewers in the 18 - 49 demographic where the viewer total was 1.2M. The 0.7 rating is NOT the number of viewers. It's rather clear in the chart above if you understand the Nielsen rating system. Wikipedia does a decent job of explaining it.
I predict the 3rd episode had about 1.3 million 0.8 and the aftershow made 900,000 with a 0.6
Yea, I don't think it did so well. Your prediction sounds about right to me.
I hope MTV comes to realize that not having dailies hurts the show.
I don't think having the dailies hurt the ratings. Usually the people who go on to the dailies are strong RW fans it doesn't necessarily help ratings.

Is this good or bad?
I hope all that progress Vegas and Rivals made doesn't get washed away by this season's ratings. I know we got 1 or 2 more real worlds coming but that one episode challenge renewal has me on edge.

This show is going down the drain.
This show is going down the drain.
I'm not so sure...
After all, it did outperform TLC's "Extreme Couponing" by a full 30%! That's something. ;)
Next season better be like awesome or it's the end of Real World.
Maybe, maybe not. Who really knows how profitable the show really is, especially when they have so many product tie-ins on which I am sure they are making some change (Subway, Sundrop, etc). I don't see those with most shows on MTV other than the Challenges, of course.

I'm surprised it's even doing this well. This season is complete ****!
I'm surprised it's even doing this well. This season is complete **********]
It could possibly beat DC out for the lowest rated season. At least that's how it's shaping up with these first four episodes. It could get better though, hopefully, if they get off this intense stuff.
Episode 1: SD - 1.949 (Viewership) 1.2 (18-49) DC - 1.881 (Viewership) 1.0 (18-49)
Episode 2: SD - 1.224 (Viewership) 0.7 (18-49) DC - 2.020 (Viewership) 1.1 (18-49)
Episode 3: SD - 1.499 (Viewership) 0.8 (18-49) DC - 1.840 (Viewership) 1.0 (18-49)
Episode 4: SD - 1.296 (Viewership) 0.8 (18-49) DC - 1.792 (Viewership) 1.0 (18-49)
