Based upon Baya's somewhat cryptic FB post last night, I am assuming the Ryan's Deployment Special on MTV is going to be shown on Nov. 11th i.e. Veteran's Day.
yea i read her twitter update about that and assumed she was talking about the Ryan special. Did anyone see Ryan's new music video on his channel? Its really good and shows how talented and creative Ryan truly is.
I think that Ryan is talented for sure. My concern about him in that regard is that the breadth of his talent might interfere with focusing on one or two things moving forward with a career. I hope he doesn't let his little opportunities now prevent him from going to school ASAP and getting that degree and bigger opportunities down the road. The longer he waits the harder it will be.

After watching this I'm really starting to miss Ryan lol. This isn't bad and I guess he's gotta entertain himself somehow out there.

He's getting a whole hour? That would be pretty impressive. Or maybe it will be mixed with other military stories.
I too hope that he returns to college and gets a degree.
Ryan, go back to college and get your degree.
For those who may be interested, Ryan did create his own fanpage on facebook to get around the limit and has put up a lot of photos this week. I think he sent all his pending friend requests to be members of the fan page since he has over 12Kfans in three days so if you have not sent him a request and want to see his **** just search Ryan A. Conklin in the facebook pages.
I'm laughing a lot at this video I made "starring" Ryan Conklin, if anyone is interested: YouTube - A Ryan A. Conklin Christmas
I dont remember exactly what he said, but in a youtube video, Ryan said he most likely will not be doing a challenge. He said the only way he will definitely do one if he can be partnered with Chet.

I strongly suspect he will do one in about a year or so unless he gets a great opportunity to come his way otherwise. It isn't like others haven't said they wouldn't and did or that they would never do one again and showed back up. It is the nature of the reality beast.
Chet said he wouldn't one either, and so did Scott. Now Scott wants to do one. You never know what could happen.
I think Scott always wanted to do one. I remember him saying it on his audition tape.

Yeah he did, thats why he did the RW but after Brooklyn was done, he said he would never do a challenge. I think he thought he was gonna become some famous actor (no offense Scott) and not want to do the challenges.

I don't think it was necessarily about becoming a famous actor as much as it was about having a successful career in general.

Just wondering if anyone has read Ryan's book "An Angel From ****" yet, and, if so, what they thought of it. I just want to know if it is worth reading as a book for some reason other than that Ryan A. Conklin wrote it (what are its strengths and weanesses I guess).
I was wondering if anybody read it as well..
I've read it. In fact I got it and started reading it two weeks before the issue date. I had a tip that a bookstore in NYC was selling it early so I ordered it from there and had it overnighted. I wanted to get an early start on reviewing it, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to in the last month.
I think people who knew of Ryan from RW will have a different reading experience than those who did not. If you are a fan, it's a book full of what he did in Iraq for a year and you'll be interested in knowing what happened and enjoy it for that reason alone. On the other hand, if you didn't know anything about Ryan, how would you feel about the book? I'm still in the process of trying to put myself in the latter position and assess it accordingly.
A very short summary I can give at this time, is that it does an excellent job of giving the reader a picture of what the soldiers experienced - like a verbal documentary. It also does a good job of showing what a soldier like Ryan, who is properly established upfront as an all-American, boy-next-door type, is thinking as the events happen. Those thoughts provide some insight as to who he, the author/narrator is, and how the events are affecting him at the moment and over time. What isn't there, and wasn't intended to be there, is any deep introspection about his own personality, character, or views. Also, there isn't much fleshing out of the personalities of the other soldiers in the book. There is usually, but not always, enough stated about each one to be able to differentiate one from another, but the reader doesn't get to know much about them. Some readers might find it challenging to read through the references to military parlance, ranks, weaponry, etc., but those things are a necessary part of a memoir about being a soldier in combat.
I have wanted to read this book because I love Ryan, but I worry that it will be a hard read for me. I can't watch anything military-related without crying right now- my husband will be deploying in a two years. Should I avoid for now? I have already shelved reading Dear John until his military contract is up! And forget the Hurt Locker...
