One thing that would be interesting to see is DVR viewings of The Ruins, as that added into the total would probably give it a significant boast being younger viewers tend to be more technologically savvy and would be more prone to watching shows on a DVR.

Is the data from all DVRs gathered? I have a DVR but I had no clue that they did this.
The format is great. The cast is good. The way things are going down, sucks.
I disagree that the format is great. When you put a bunch of people who have won previous challenges, who already have alliances and who are familiar with the rules of the game, against a bunch of rookies or veterans who have failed challenge after challenge, the outcome becomes pretty predictable. I think that the format of the challenge has a lot to do with the way things are going down. The Champions vs Challengers' theme makes the competition as one sided as it can be; right up there with the Guys vs Girls for BOTS.

I'm not sure if it is every single DVR in the United States, but I know most major cable and satellite providers compile data on user viewing habits, including DVR +7 viewing data.

I think the format is great, and the cast was 75% good.. i think that since is to be expected that any group of winners (and some multiple winners at that) will have an advantage over loosers (and multiple loosers).. the Challenger Team needed to have done without the obviously weak ( Nick, Shauvon, Casey, Chet).. those spots filled with stronger or more experienced challengers would have avoided the current loopsideness..
also, i bet a significant amount of The Ruins audience, specially overseas, watches the episodes online.. so those views (and re-views should count for something)

I somewhat agree with you on the Format. I think they definely need to divide the teams better but as far as the acutal rules of the game...That I like. I think this is the best format (as far as the game rules) in a while.
Clearly the show is in ratings free fall. I just looked at the schedule for next week and there are only two viewings after Wednesday's premiere, 2AM that morning and 2AM Monday (No man's land.)
MTV has given up on additional viewers and is trying desperately to get the existing people to watch when it premieres. I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled the online option as well.
This reminds of of Road Rules Viewers Revenge as they are following the same exact pattern while the show spirals down in the ratings...
Viewers are saying, "Didn't we see this last time, and the time before, and the time before and the time before..."
Didn't RW Cancun's premiere get a 1.4? I really don't think the shows in danger. It is one of MTV's top shows, and all of MTV's shows are doing bad, even The Hills.

The difference is that with Cancun they were running it 20 times a week so they were getting their money's worth (i.e. 1.4 million viewers, and then 1 million and then 6 repeats with 600,000 and then etc etc.)
If they are only going to run The Ruins once in prime time (and twice when no one is watching) then the current ratings are absolutely devastating being they are not getting the replay value.
Also, with Cancun it started slow and then built an audience. With The Ruins it had an audience out of the gate, peaked in week 2 and now each week it loses 200,000 more viewers. We have no idea yet where the bottom is...
Getting rid of repeats should in theory inflate the number a little next week, but in the end they are losing by not being able to use the show to fill programming holes and maximize their investment in the show.

No instead we get 3 hours of Disaster Date and Parental Control between 4 and 7...:dash2:
I am really surprised at how low ratings were for last week's episode. I still say if they reran it more it wouldve given the show a broader audience. It will probably be the best episode of the season and they failed to capitalize on it. Maybe that's why ratings are so low. I am just scared that the highest rated episode so far was the Ev vs. JEK fiasco. This makes me think that the producers will see this and use that as an excuse to cast them on every season and never have Veronica and maybe Tonya back "because they didn't bring the ratings". This is just sad.

I think that they will figure out the ratings are declining because once again JEK are the focus of the show and people are tired of it.
Viewers tuned in, saw how things were going and decided to pass on another season of JEK. At least, that is what I hope the suits will extrapolate...
FM2 is already in the can, so there will be no ratings reprieve anytime soon (horrible alumni cast including more Kenny) and I am already guessing that the ratings from that fiasco will put them in a position of trying to decide if it is worth producing two more (or just eat the contract.)
There is still hope for the long term viability of the series, but it is quickly fading.
To me the fix seems so obvious. Where is Colie????
It would not be sporting to the other networks to put on a ratings powerhouse like Colie. ;)

You think so? I would imagine that considering how the ratings went down probably based on how things ended on that episode (Ev going home) that might actually make BMP consider actually not asking JEK back. If the good ratings of that episode were attributible to JEK then those ratings would've stayed because they're still on the competition. I think Ev might be closer to getting her "revenge" than she might imagine. I get the feeling that either JEK (the 3 of them together) won't be asked back or if they are invited back it will only be if Ev can do the challenge. As for Veronica and Tonya I'm sure they would be asked back.
It's just annoying how MTV choices to air Parental Control and other useless shows all damn day over The Ruins. It's interesting also that there have been no reruns of The Hills or The City this year either.
However, even with low ratings The Real World and The Challenge still end up being among MTV's highest rated shows, I don't see them axing either of them unless the ratings completely BOMB. Which might actually happen for Fresh Meat 2 :/
I hope after Fresh Meat they manage to get Beth, Coral, and Rachel back which might also result in Veronica returning as well. Wishful thinking, but it's possible since all four of them have done a challenge recently.
The RW&Challenges aren't going anywhere, and neither is the Hills. Those are MTV's three top rated shows.
Totally agree. Although it may not be able to compete with other reality shows like Survivor and Jon & Kate, it gets much higher ratings than shows like Starmaker, Daddy's Girls, Making His Band, etc.
The only MTV shows that really get good ratings are The Real World, RW/RR Challenge, The Hills, The City, America's Best Dance Crew, and maybe Run's House.
I think that some people don't watch since the outcome is predictable. The same people make it to the end.
Inferno III:Kenny,Derrick,Evelyn.
Gauntlet III:Kenny,Evan and almost all of their team(they did not win just because of easy, they still were the first one's to arrive. So you can give them that.)
Island:Johnny,Kenny,Evelyn,Derrick.
Duel 2:Evan.
One huge problem is the age demo for the show. A lot of middle school/high school kids are the ones that watch the show and are more interested in the newer people from the shows. I was talking to someone the other day about the Ruins and they're only a few years younger than me (I'm 22) and when I said I couldn't wait for the Tonya vs Veronica fight, they asked "Who's Veronica?" I almost died. How can you say you're a fan of RW/RR and NOT know who Veronica is? Insane I tell you. I used to think I was too young to appreciate the older seasons and now I feel that I am "old school" when it comes to being a fan of these shows. I started watching RW with Boston although not religiously until Hawaii, Road Rules with Latin America, and challenges with Challenge 2000.

Wow I'm surprised that they didn't know who Veronica was. I'm only 19 and I've been watching the challenges ever since Battle of the Sexes 1 (7th grade). I think having a good mix of people could help ratings and without the predictable alliances. Bringing back the lifeshield/lifesaver would be a good twist.

I agree with you. I think all they need to do is get a better mix of old schoolers and newer people. The Gauntlet 2 did that perfectly.

I agree, G2 had a really great cast. I just dont see the casting directors working that hard to get old schoolers back again. Its so much easier for them to call Stale Meats and the new kids from Real World. Now with this new group of Stale Meats coming around I think the chances of seeing old schoolers just got thinner.
I agree that most of the original Fresh Meat suck, but how can you know that the new kids will be "stale meat"?
Just trust me, there's a reason they were rejects. Same can be said for the originals.
