What are you on?
I was captivated by it lol. I even tuned in to watch the aftershow which I never do.

I'm not on anything... it was just really boring and dragged out.
What a crazy episode! I feel bad for Heather...that's so rough man. Embarrassing to have to live out on TV.
Dustin should've told her and he's kind of a hypocritical *******, but whatever.

I kind of see what SPK is saying. This episode offered nothing refreshing or didactic at the end. At least with Nany's central episode, she touched up on physical abuse and how it's wrong. All I got from tonight's episode was...it's okay to say stupid homophobic **** as long as you overcompensate for it.
Leroy was the saving grace for this episode. But it's not saying much....
So random question, where was Cooke when Dustin sat down the cast and explained his past?
Seriously? You're feel bad for Heather? lol. Dustin was the one who had to be so open about all this **** on tv. And it's only because everyone there made it a big deal. The only person who he should've spoken to was Heather. He didn't have to sit those idiots down to talk about anything. They've only known each other for a month at this point.
I guess Dustin and Mike still aren't friends lol

I was wondering that too.
That's still more than some of the recent seasons. No one cared when Mike and Emily said they were bi on DC. Only one person was homophobic on NOLA2. And no one cared that Derek was gay on Cancun. Denver had Stephen but he wasn't really homophobic.
So out of the recent seasons, this may be the most homophobic cast.
Don't forget the flamboyant homophobia of Dustin previously, with his comments on how the point of "being on this Earth is to reproduce", the gondola ride incident...
And nobody calls anyone out for their remarks -- what year is it??
I'm puzzled by them wanting Dustin to leave the house over this.
And I just have to laugh whenever Nany gives Heather relationship advice. Nany, you hooked up with Adam.

In legal circles, jesses_girl, it's called material misrepresentation. Of course it matters to all who share living space with him.
Why did they spend at least 50 minutes on Dustin's past? Also, I really don't understand why Mike Mike wants Dustin to leave so badly...
I think Mike thought they would have some John Hughes movie type relationship with Dustin where Mike was the dork and Dustin was the cool kid and he resented that it didn't work out that way (plus I think Mike has a thing for Heather M).
Personally, I don't believe Dustin should have to tell the rest of the cast anything.. UNLESS he ever wants a real friendship with any of them. His ***ual/work history is none of their business and it doesn't affect any of them. I don't know why anyone other than Heather would care what he did. How many of these cast members had *** infront of cameras this season? No one has ever walked around naked on The Real World? What's the big deal?

So you put no credibility in the "STD" clause in the contract? I'd argue that it is a material omission potentially deleterious to the health and safety of other cast members.

Not sure what that clause would be, but I would guess that Leroy's *** habits are just as likely to result in an STD coming into the house. My understanding is that people in the adult entertainment world have mandatory STD testing on a monthly basis.
Definitely felt for Dustin tonight more than I thought I would. I mean what...this is a month in at this point? Maybe not even that? And the roommates expected him to tell them everything already even though he hadn't even told his own FAMILY? I mean, seriously. The only one with a remote argument is Heather. Everyone else was overreacting in my opinion. Who are they? Dustin didn't NEED to tell them anything.
I DO see the hypocrisy with Dustin though. If they would have kept the argument at that, I'd understand. But when people are saying, "WHO ARE YOU? I'M SO MAD YOU LIED BLABLABLA" it's ****.
I don't understand how anyone in this thread can even attempt to defend Dustin. The other castmates are homophobic??? Dustin himself is homophobic! It's actually crazy to me. I don't think that the other castmates besides Heather necessarily deserved to know, but it's incredibly fake and disingenuous for Dustin to make the several homophobic comments he did when he's done gay ****. The fact that he refused to even get in a gondola with a man when he's done much more than that with other guys is laughable. Whether he thinks of himself as straight or not is irrelevant. To make a bad analogy, if I'm sleeping with a married man, I can't claim to hate cheaters and think that's logically consistent just because I'm not the one who's technically cheating. Honestly, I think the castmates are more upset about the hypocrisy than the ****. Plus, they feel sorry for Heather.
I also don't understand anyone who feels sorry for him because this all came out on tv. This is the real world! He knew it would come out eventually. I wouldn't advise anyone trying to keep a huge secret from family and friends to go on a nationally televised show lol

My question was put to Insider...

I'm not defending his actions (re: the boat ride or his homophobic comments), I just felt for him in the manner this was all thrown out in the open. He was probably expecting the chance to at least bring it up when he felt comfortable doing so and he didn't get the chance to do that. He should have mentioned something to Heather a while back. But I do see why he was scared to say something.
Oh and by the way, Heather DID tell people. When Dustin asked how she could tell everyone, she said Adam told Nany and that's how everyone found out...I'm pretty sure it shows her telling Leroy and Cookie. Just sayin'.
Like some people, it bothers me that the cast apparently doesn't see its own homophobia and that viewers are so callous about the subject that they don't see anything wrong with the views expressed by the cast members. Reading anything that says in effect that the cast is not homophobic is making my jaw drop and making me exclaim ***. Are we living in different universes, such that blatant homophobia is not discernible in that other scary universe in which I don't want live in or be a part of?
It shouldn't be hard to recognize homophobia. It's treating people differently based on their orientation (and by extension, their gender). One example is a reaction to being admired by someone of the same gender. The non-homophobic reaction is indifference. Recall Ryan Conklin's response when Chet asked him how he felt about JD calling him attractive. Ryan's reply was "that's cool." Compare with Leroy's and Dustin's reaction. Their irrational response to being admired is phobic.

Did he have an STD that he didn't disclose? Apparently I missed that part. That... is another story.

As far as orientation is concerned, Dustin's sexuality was heterosexual both before and after his confession. So, it really doesn't make sense to derive the issue from that standpoint. Unless of course you're implying the roommates are forcibly projecting their own vision of what his sexuality entails based on his past sexual activities, then you have a more sound argument.

No, when Heather asked him if she should be tested, he pointed out that the industry is clean. While not 100% accurate, I have read elsewhere that these folks have to get tested for STD's on a monthly basis. I have heard of stars getting HIV/AIDS sporadically but it usually seems to be from their private activities.
Something I liked from this episode was the karma in advance. Dustin got the opportunity to feel the pain that his attitude and words since have made others feel upon hearing him speak his homophobic comments.
He needs to learn about the "banality of evil" and how condoning or encouraging casual disregard of others' equal humanity leads too often to tragedy. There must be no dismissing of expressions intended to indicate the "otherness" of those subject to bigotry.

I am not sure if I understand your position on that. If one is homophobic and they perceive someone to be gay, then it flows naturally whether or not the person actually is gay. It is about the outside party, not the perceived party IMO.

I'm referring to the cast members' attitude towards gay people in general, not about their views on Dustin and/or his previous work experience.

This in itself was homophobic of Heather to ask.

Then is it not their misguided view of what his sexuality is, and not simply just homophobia? Is he doing a good job at representing and expressing his own sexuality, or his insecurities based on his own possible homophobia? To cry homophobia when the party in question has gay friends outside of the show is just jumping the gun a little, don't you think? None of us are getting an accurate depiction of the housemates' reactions, just a bunch of chopped up footage. ****, we didn't even see Cooke in the meeting when she was clearly there.
