Honestly the challenge is the ONLY reason I don't want the show canceled, if they could keep the challenge going without the real world then I wouldn't care that much if it got canceled.
Huh... didn't even know this had already premiered. Just as well I guess since my cable is getting shut off this week. I'll have to catch it on NHAP down the road.
I clearly don't want the show to end but it is hard to see such a good show go down hill over the years and we have to face the fact that it isn't going to get better. There are too many reality shows out nowadays and with the terrible casting the ratings are going to suffer. I love the challenges but those are going to eventually end because many people don't even want to come back anymore. Cast memebers are tired of associating themselves with the real world because it hurts them in real life with wanting to get a career.
But here's the main question: Is it worse than Road Rules Viewers Revenge? That should be the barometer of "end the show" or not
Good question. The best I could find online was that Season 12 South Pacific (2003) of Road Rules got an average of 1.9 million viewers and an average of 1.5 million in the 12-34 demo. That was a level sufficient for renewal. At the time of its renewal, Real World 14 San Diego was averaging 4.1 million viewers and 3.2 million in the 12-34 demo. If anyone can find any rating information on Road Rules Seasons 13 X-Treme (2004) or Season 14 Viewer's Revenge (2007) it would be appreciated. Only thing I can find about Season 14 is it underwent a night change partway through, moving after 5 episodes from Tuesdays at 9pm to Wednesdays at 10:30pm where it followed Real World.
What we can say for certain, is that the premier of Real World 29 was 50% lower than the average rating of Road Rules the last season that MTV execs were happy with it. It's very possible Road Rules never fell below the million viewers mark and that Real World has survived now for several seasons on lower ratings.
I'm on est time and my TV guide says 10:00 still?? Idk where you guys are showing 11 lol
The same episode that was just on at 10:00 is always on again at 11:00
AT the of the super teaser on TV after episode 1, because the ones on MTV.com doesn't have that part at the end. Arielle's said New Real World at a special time next week at 11 PM. So I don't know I am confuse.

I just checked and their was no show on Afterbuzz for the premiere. I'm kinda surprised because they cover so many different shows and they weren't willing to cover the new episode. This has to be a bad sign unless they plan on doing the first two episodes as one show like they did for Rivals 2.

They'll be discussing the first two episodes tonight.
Multiple things killed it: Not being the only reality show on TV, casting, and lastly the thing people have never discussed TECHNOLOGY. Internet and cell phones ruined the idea that time will make people forget the horrible things you did on the show, because now everything is put on YouTube. Cell phones made it able for cast members to hide their personal lives. The last great Real World season was Austin (2005), because the casting was so good. The second to last great season was Paris in 2003. We have never seen another Cara from Chicago, because Cara never knew about the new nightvision cameras on the show so she was a tramp and sneaked guys in and out at night. MTV made a montage of about 20 guys with Cara for the reunion show. People now try to only show their good side on national TV. Every season now we hear about people hiding their personal lives from the camera. A great reason is you can communicate with people without hassle and easy to hide smartphones. No more open bigotry or ignorance on the show. You can say that you see hints of being racist, homophobic, or sexist, but no one is willing to say that on camera anymore. Technology has opened peoples eyes and made them realize that looking like a racist or homophobic on national TV will effect your future. If you think about the first 11 seasons all had a story line that centered around one of those topics. The first 11 seasons had someone say, "I don't really hang around blacks or have any black friends" besides the first 11 seasons the only other person to say that was Cohutta on season 19 (it is season 29 now). (Small point to add on to it not being the only reality show)Nudity, drug addiction, domestic violence, violence, being black, being gay, racism, sexism, harassment, homophobia, religion, AIDS,and love there is a reality show that has been multiple reality shows based solely on every one of those topics.
Why didn't they ever have another person with HIV on? That would be interesting. It's been like 20 years. There are people with interesting stories like that that they could include, it seems like they're not very creative really.

Personal opinion the show started getting bad on Real World San Diego (Original). The whole season had no storyline because of the whole rape, having their film seized, and having to move the cast to Mexico. Next season was Philadelphia which the storylines were: Karamo and Will being gay. Shavonda and Landon having a bi-racial relationship (It was 2004 at that point they were a decade late with that storyline). After that Real World Austin which was good. After Austin Real World Key West followed, which was bad. The storylines that season: Hurricane Wilma, Paula being a lousy drunk, Paula anorexia/body issues, opening up a tanning salon, Svetlana being faithful to her boyfriend, Johnny being a clown and trying to hook up with Svetlana, Tyler being a gay lunatic, and Janelle and Jose fighting. Storylines MTV missed: Svetlana cheating on her boyfriend, Svetlana being naked, Johnny hooking up with Svetlana, and Zach getting a lot of girls. Maybe it is just me but Hurricane Wilma, opening up a tanning salon, and Paula's anorexia/body issues shouldn't be half of a Real World Season. Real World Denver and beyond are trash compared to the first 13 seasons and I am not going to explain every season in great detail.
The second episode's ratings are up. It got a 0.6 in the demo and 995,000 viewers if I'm right. That's a bit of an improvement. I think we may get another season after all.
REAL WORLD EX-PLOSION MTV 10:00 PM 0.995 0.6 Competition: DUCK DYNASTY AEN 10:00 PM 8.516 3.3 American Horror Story FX 10:00 PM 3.462 1.7 & i thought a 30th season was already renewed anyway

In fact it's one of the worst seasons in the history of this show. The fact that it won best season in that Real World awards thing means nothing. That season was Painful.
I enjoyed that summary of those seasons :) I always wanted to know what happened in them!
How is that a storyline? lol
You make the storyline the same way when it was with Aneesa naked on the Chicago season. Same reason the show Naked and Afraid got ratings on Discovery. Countless TLC shows on nudists. I don't watch Naked and Afraid, but that show did get better ratings than The Real World. I believe when it ran it was the 2nd most watched show on that night with half of the viewers being 18-49.
I really should make myself watch an epsidoes of Duck Dynasty one day. I just absolutely cant imagine what is so compelling about that show.

According to TV by the Numbers, a late night showing of Aqua Teen Hunger Force and about 5 showings of Family Guy beat the Real World last night. -______-

Of course MTV's target demo is the 12-34 group, that's what we see in their press releases although on a daily basis we only see ratings for the 18-49 demo. I do wonder in this day and age how many viewers are watching if you add show replays, DVR, on demand, MTV.com viewing. Could easily be 1.5 to 2 million if you add in everybody who watches.

They usually upload the episode between 9-10 am EST and this week had 11,000 views when I watched at 11.

This is good, the exes coming next week should also help for ratings
Fantastic! And the exes haven't even shown up yet.
I knew it would rise. Hopefully it continues.
