I should note at this point that I'm a completely casual viewer of the show, and I'll defer to your obvious passion/interest for it
My passion for the show is non-existant. My observation of Ryan and his "career" on the show since his debut is purely from what I've observed as a viewer. The whole premise of Ryan being picked to be on the show was entirely based on his interaction with Shane while on the show. With or without Shane, Ryan has failed to deliver anything original or interesting to the show.
you are probably the target audience MTV (or BMP--I don't know the difference and am not sure I care) should be hoping to satisfy...if they were smart.
There's a huge difference, actually. I don't quite care what the differences are either, but if you're going to reference someone as being responsible for casting the shows, then at least reference the right company.
Whoever makes the show obviously thought Ryan would pull in an audience. They managed to hook me into googling his name and finding this forum, where I thought I would stick my two cents in as one of the few people who like watching him. I'm in the minority, probably in numbers and definitely in passion, so maybe MTV/BMP/whoever just made a marketing miscalculation. They got someone like me, but they should probably put their efforts into getting more people like the majority opinion on fan forums.
It's great that you like Ryan and enjoy him on the show. I'm not trying to convert you onto the Anti-Ryan Bandwagon. Like who you like, watch who you like. More power to you. The majority of viewers, as you yourself have pointed out, aren't very fond of his challenge appearances. If I wanted better ratings, I'd target the majority of my audience and cater to them. Not the minority.
I woul actually disagree saying he brings nothing to the show. I feel like BMP casts him for a reason. He is possibly one of the most liked members int he BMP community. He has a lot of friends and I think he gets along with everybody. I feel like BMP casts him 1, for the cast interaction that he provides, and 2, to show that gay guys can be strong competitors.

He's not overly strong. But he isn't below average either. He put up a real good fight against nehemiah in the push me challenge. He did well in the Island competition again Johanna and Colie. I know not great competitors, but still he was impressive in the competition. He has been pretty impressive in the Fresh Meat 2 challenges thus far too.

I don't mind Ryan, but frankly I don't think he's anything other than a typical gay cast member. He's not particularly notable in any athletic way, is usually shown kissing/making out with/etc. with at least one cast member, and doesn't have a really strong sway in the politics of the cast in any challenge he's been in. If BMP selected Ryan to participate to show that gay men can compete physically as well as straight men can (I'm not really sold that they did this, as I'm sure you can tell), I'd rather they actually selected a gay man who performed as well as Landon, Alton, and so on. Off the top of my head, Shane has been the only gay castmate to perform pretty well. Dan back on Inferno 2 was kept around mostly because he was pretty well liked in the house, Tyler is a surprisingly poor competitor when it comes to these things, and Ryan, much like Dan, is never kept around out of fear that he would send people home in the elimination rounds. At least Dan was funny :(
How did Shane perform well? I can't really put my finger on any time where Shane was anything above average. Ryan Put up a good performance that had nothing to do with strength and I'm not saying he's the next coming ****** but he hasnt' performed poorly at all in the missions or anything. His political game is pretty good. It's gotten him to the end numerous times. I.e. The Island, this time (he may not have even went in had that "twist" not been thrown in there).

He's not super amazing, but I think he physically puts a better game on than Ryan does. It's true that Ryan is pretty good at sliding along from being friends with people - I just meant he's not calling any shots.
He wasn't following anybody this time either. He played the middle like Jenn. He played his own game and not somebody elses. But the game is similar to a social experiment in the fact that you come on with friends and see how that comes into play. Nowadays that's one of the biggest aspcts of it. Which makes him an above average player.
Kenny, along with Evelyn, stated at the Fresh Meat 2 reunion that since the beginning of The Island, Ev and Kenny had an agreement that she would be on the boat with them. He had promised Paula that he would get her the key and get her to the end (which he did and maybe he promised Ryan that too). The reason that Paula was upset was because Kenny didn't **** Evelyn over and put Paula in his boat. Kenny and Ryan are indeed close, The Island situation has nothing to do with their friendship, it was obvious at the reunion how close they are.
Why would they talk about the Island at the FM2 reunion? Either way I hope that makes it the actual show since after I read this I started wondering why Kenny would be a ****** to her on the Island if they had some sort of agreement that she would be in his boat at the end anyway. I've been under the impression it was more of a last minute deal to save Johnny's *** and I don't know why it would come to light around 2 years after the Island and not at the Island reunion (but to be fair I don't normally dig around for behind the scenes dirt either). Also, going by Evelyn's own Vevmo interview it doesn't sound quite right. Q7. We’ve learned that the “The Alliance” was formed before the cast left for Panama . Did you have alliance plans of your own before the challenge? A7. Nope. I had three people with whom I had been close in the past and I took it for granted that we’d look out for one another. Those people let me down almost immediately. Fortunately other individuals came along and surprised me. Edit: I just read another user saying pretty much the same thing and why the Island was brought up to begin with. The whole thing threw me off initially.
So, Ryan puts up pretty good fights against middle-of-the-pack females?
Just out of curiosity, what makes Johanna and Colie middle-of-the-pack? Have either of them ever won a single elimination or Face-Off, or performed well in an individual mission?
I think he was just being generous with his adjectives, as not to offend a certain motherly member here. ;)
Very, very generous....She sucks, I say that with motherly love.
Very, very generous....She sucks, I say that with motherly love.
Lol niiiiiice, this sounds like my mom a little
Ryan's whole "double agent" proclamation has now assured that he will NEVER hold a strong place in a solid alliance. Why would anyone want him? He has lost credibility with those he should be trying to prove himself too. He occassionally has a humurous but sensible take on things, but that's about it. He's delusional trying to claim his game is making strides. He lasted awhile only because Kenny kept winning challenges.

Kenny is quite fond of him, I think. Same with Paula and maybe Jenn. If they can get into an alliance, so will he. But nonetheless, I think he is mean and condescending to people. It's really tiring to watch his sarcastic commentary.
I agree with what cystic said...Ryan is a useless castmember and part of the reason why the Challenges have gone downhill. And for those people talking about Shane, he also won missions for the guys' team in BOTS1. He was a gay castmember who not only was a solid competitor, but everyone liked him, fellow castmembers and viewers alike. Even a notorious jerk like Puck took a liking to him almost immediately...they were partners on the second partnered mission in BOTS1. Also on that season he lashed out at the girls' team for the way they were playing the game, something that Ryan would never have the balls to do. Shane's only real blemish was losing to CT on the first Inferno, which I'm willing to overlook. I can't stand that Ryan has essentially replaced Shane as the token gay castmember, because he brings absolutely nothing to the table. Keep him off my TV.
Wow lots of Ryan hate around here... I actually like him. Course, I like Evan, Kenny, CT and many others who are not so popular with viewers, and I dislike most of the girls.
I actually really like Ryan too. He's not my favorite person ever, but he's definitely one of my favorite guy cast members.

Shane was so funny & adorable. Ryan is annoying, boring and greasy-looking.
So the wife & rented the movie Kick-*** over the weekend. While we were watching the movie I noticed someone that just couldn't place but I had definitely seen before. It just hit me that this guy in question looks EXACTLY like Ryan. I checked IMDB and I don't see him listed but it could have been an uncredited part. I've already returned the movie but if anyone out there owns the movie, can you confirm that I am either right or wrong about this. It's the very first guy that the goons are torturing in the lumber warehouse. They have him in a chair and are asking him questions.
I dont like Ryan very much, but I do have to admit he has accomplished a lot since his first challenge. He isn't a good competitor, but atleast give him the average rating. He does play the social game well and made it to the finals before, other than that not so impressive.
I think he is a weak as competitor. Maybe he is great guy, brother, lower or whater but he did 5 challenge and... and what?
