LMAO! I was going to bring this up the other day after hearing Juliet and Jacoby talk about it on the Grantland Right Reasons podcast.

Wow I never even realized this haha.

Thanks! and wow Laurel does really say Aneesa like that. That was dead on, lol.
Yeah, I never thought Laurel had an accent until I read this thread.
Yeah she has a almost very typical Midwest accent being that she's from Michigan. If you ever noticed people from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio share a pretty similar accent.

Juliet's impersonation was perfect. It had me laughing for a bit.
It was mentioned that Laurel was at her mental peak this season because she was rejuvenated from a 3 challenge break but also the hungriest because of her three second place finishes in a row. Laurel is playing a political game because she is making sure that she gets rid of any chances of losing. The way she's playing this game reminds me of Rachel when she did her thing in Duel 2. Both are favorites and could win the entire thing with their physicality, but politics insures the win, by washing out every little nook and cranny that could possibly pose an obstacle to nabbing gold.
I think Laurel did the right thing by trying to "feed" her opponents to Aneesa. Rachel had the advantage of the duel setting where the person going into the duel could call out whoever she wanted to, and she took advantage of that by telling Aneesa to send home Tori. Otherwise if it were a "draw" set up on the Duel 2, Rachel might have tried to do to Aneesa what Laurel did. No matter how tough you are, it only helps your game to play politics to smooth out that road to gold. Recent female winners Emily/Paula, Rachel and Paula/Ev didn't need to but they still did or tried to. Jodi was the only recent female winner that didn't really try to manipulate the outcome of the elimination rounds that much, except when it came to Beth.
Jasmine - 0.001% chance of beating Laurel at anything. can only win if lightning strikes laurel in the middle of balls in or the final or if laurel trips and breaks a leg. even then i think its likely that laurel would come back from the hospital in crutches right after surgery and treatment to beat jasmine before jasmine actually crosses the finish line.
Devyn - 0.002% no game unless the final ends up turning into only an eating contest like the final of gauntlet 2. Even then Devyn will only win if it's peanut butter. has to be peanuts. if it's almond butter than i have more confidence in laurel's abilities.
nany - not really a big enough chance winning in anything to worry about IMO. better chances than jasmine and devyn in all the elimination rounds and the final but not worth focusing on when you have the others around
nia, latoya - could not be determined since they were new, though I think nia's size called for a little bit of risk. Nia is taller than Laurel but laurel is bigger, girth wise.
Jonna - risk in a final as long as the final isn't a significant portion of heavy lifting. can run and do puzzles
Theresa - risk in a final, can run and carry heavy things. not sure about puzzles. risk in balls in, maybe wreckling wall. no risk in oppenheimer and can probably hold her own in looper but would inevitably lose.
Camila - A lot like Cara, except I think that Camila had a higher chance in balls in, wreckling wall with less of a chance(relative to Cara) in looper though it was hard to say with her mental state. she could pose a threat in the final and even though she didnt do the rivals 2 puzzle, she did solve the BOTexes one.
Cara - risk in a final, oppenheimer(50/50 because cara might be faster than laurel in short distances usually), looper(only if cara gets to the rope first and starts pulling before laurel gets to it). 0 chance of losing to Cara in the other elimination rounds balls in and wrecking wall.
aneesa - 0 risk in final, but higher risk in elimination rounds especially balls in. less of a risk in oppenheimer. not sure about looper and wrecking wall
I'm fairly certain that Laurel thought or believed that she was going to take 1st on Cutthroat, Rivals and Fresh Meat 2.......but she didn't................all three times....Now being on her 4th challenge, she has more than likely learned to take precautions to increase her probability of being number 1. You never know in these things, obviously Laurel didn't when she came second three consecutive times. I personally believed that she was going to win all three as well, especially fresh meat 2. cutthroat she also had a great shot, and even in rivals, though more tightly contested, i would not have been surprised if laurel won that and i think laurel was also expecting it. i don't blame her for playing the way she is playing right now. she's paranoid, as she should be, based on the past and disappointments.
Agreed, I think she came into this game with an extreme amount of pressure on herself to win. She definitely thought she had Fresh Meat 2 in the bag, and has been craving a win ever since.
I understand that, and I'm like the biggest Laurel apologist, but I feel like I'm not going to get past whatever sketchy moves she is pulling on Cara next week. It would be different if Laurel didn't claim to be the best, but she does. If she's so confident in that, why doesn't she prove it by competing against the best (and her best friend!!!!!!!) in the final?

Cara Maria has already said on Twitter, based on the sneak peak for next week, they're probably not showing the whole thing/what really happened.

Ha, well of course she did.
Cara Maria has already said on Twitter, based on the sneak peak for next week, they're probably not showing the whole thing/what really happened.
What they apparently are showing is Laurel saying that her and Cara Maria are not best friends and "I have other friends." I really feel for Cara if this is how she found out that their friendship was not what she thought it was.
So am I. I just thought there was a different side to her that they weren't showing us, since Cara Maria seemed to love her so much. We'll see what really happened between them. They're friendly now on Twitter, but I'm pretty sure they're not friends anymore, at least not the way they used to be.
Cara Maria is constantly calling Laurel her best friend. Best friend this, best friend that, best friend got the first round, best friends in first and second place. I don't think I've heard Laurel reciprocate this label a single time yet. Even she says in this preview that the term best friend is being taken too far. In many relationships, equality isn't always present, and that goes for friendships and couples...I think that's kind of the case here. Laurel obviously views Cara Maria as a friend, but probably not on the same calibur as how Cara views Laurel.

I feel like Cara was just one of those kids who, by her own design or not, didn't have a lot of friends, had no siblings and latches onto people that give her positive attention. Just look how willing she was to completely bury the hatchet when Laurel had gone for two seasons talking about what a weirdo she is and how worthless she is as a competitor. I could forgive if someone genuinely apologized...but it would take a little longer than a couple months for me to declare them my best friend. I think she just wants to be liked and her whole being a weird kid/loner thing is a defense mechanism to keep from being rejected. It's easier to say that you walk to the beat of your own drum and don't want to fit in than to try to fit in and have people not like you, I suppose.
I have always seen Cara being more enthusiastic about the friendship, but Laurel seems to have viewed Cara as a very good friend/best friend as she always mentioned her in interviews when discussing who she is close to from the show. She even went to visit Cara and Abe in Montana and even did a song of Cara's confessionals on a Rivals 2 episode to cheer her up. I think Laurel isn't the "omg Cara is my bestie 4 life!!!!" person.
Also to respond to another post in the episode thread, I think Laurel didn't go after Bananas on Rivals 1, because he seems to have been a friend to Cara that season and was pretty nice to her. People like Wes, Paula, and Jenn pretty much bullied the girl. I don't think Laurel is perfect, but the Easy and Paula situations were a two-way street as to what transpired. Neither deserved to be berated that bad, but they definitely did deserve a swift reality check. IMO of course.
I'm shocked that it has been said she bullied others when we haven't seen anything of the sort. Why would they edit that out when she was attached to Jordan and they were ruthless with him?
Just a quick note: Cara was bullied and picked on quite a bit growing up so getting acceptance from someone like Laurel really makes her feel good. I think they are very good friends but Laurel's sense of competition is more of a "take no prisoners" attitude which would include Cara.
If I'm Laurel I'm throwing in Cara eventually regardless of how close we are in "real life". Cara is her competition. This isn't a competition to see who is the better friend.

Oh yes they did. They deserved every bit of it ESPECIALLY Eric.

Sadly Friendships do play a big role in this game. alot if the times it determines who gets voted in, who gets to the end and other things too.

You should be a camp counselor one day. You'd be great at it.

I don't necessarily think that is true. Take for example, Rivals 1, where Johnny and Kenny, best friends as can be, did not vote for each other at all. It has been said Kenny is a force to be reckoned with in finals, and Johnny, still his competitor, did not throw him in, or even contemplated to throw him in. I think it's just Laurel's mentality and way she plays the game (assuming she actually does throws Cara into elimination.

Didn't he tell her she was not worthy enough to sit at the table with everyone else?
In terms of the Rivals 1 voting it was a bit of a joke. They all just sat around and let JEK decide everything.
One of least favourite moments in Challenge history is when Jonna and Jasmine voted differently and then the next week they were voted in to "teach them a lesson".
