I have been watching a lot more Internet shows on my TV. The technology has really matured (especially with Hulu) over the last few years and it is a great investment to get the required hookups so you can stream shows onto your "big screen."
I watched Serenity last night and wasn't impressed. :(
Maybe it was because I had not seen Firefly? I just didn't feel the characters. It seemed like a watered down Battlestar Galactica with the lead a much cheaper, less talented Harrison Ford from Star Wars.
I'd give it 2.5 out of 5 stars.

haha, yeah... serenity is basically the series finale. i can see how that'd be less than entertaining without having seen the show first.

I disagree, Serenity was cleverly written so that if you hadn't seen a single episode of the show...you'd be able to follow it. In Firefly we saw how Simon and River get on the ship....but in Serenity we see how Simon helped River escape from the Alliance. No repetition, but keeps newbies invested.
Honestly...everyone RAVES about BSG, but I tried watching a season and a half of it and thought it totally sucked. It was so boring, the characters were far from interesting....yeah Starbuck rocked, but how long can a series use 1 character as a crutch? meh.
One thing that did get a little lost in translation from tv-->big screen was a lot of the character relationships. Whedon even said that it was hard because there are so many characters and you're trying to tell the story in between. Therefore I think a lot of the Mal/Inara stuff was cut out, and we didn't really see much more of the Mal/Jayne conflict too. So I can see how you'd think the characters were a little watered down....it wasn't like that in the series, I think time constraints affected this aspect. Joss is usually SO INTO character development in all of his shows.
I think Serenity is a WAY better movie, after having seen the series, sure, but I brought a ton of friends to Serenity in the theater, people who had never seen a lick of Firefly, and every single person loved it. Everyone's entitled to his/her own opinion, but not seeing the series isn't a good scapegoat only because so much was done to prevent that in its development.
I WANT TO WATCH IT AGAINNNNNNN =) It's a shame the movie didn't do slightly better.....Universal was totally ready to green-light a trilogy had it done a little better. It ended up recovering its budget (somewhat between 35-40 million) plus more with the DVDs (original DVD + Collector's 2-disc Edition), but Universal is still on the fence about doing more =(
I'm not saying it sucked, I just felt it wasn't very good. I wouldn't watch it again, but I am glad I was able to cross it off my big list of movies not seen.

On a side note: How did psychic girl open the blast door at the end from the outside when it was locked from the inside? Just one of many little things that made me shake my head...
I also am not a fan of Buffy-esque martial arts. Could it look any more fake?!
Give me a Battlestar Galactica movie any day (I bet Whedon would concur!)
...and don't say it is just me that didn't like it. Not enough people saw it in the first place to even offer a valid sample of opinions. :D

I didn't mean to imply that you were the only person that didn't like it.....and River blasted the door open...by....um......being WAY AWESOME? haha yea...ill stick with that...
I have to rewatchhhhh i can't wait
I didn't offer my opinion because 1) RSV said it better than I ever could have and 2) I know when you are stirring the pot.
I have Serenity on DVD and I just may pop it in.
BTW, I'm not even addressing the fake Buffy martial arts comments or I will have to get nasty.

har har har, Bacchus! It's still cool that it got the Blu-Ray release! I dont ahve blu-ray yet but i have the original serenity release AND the collector's edish. Universal totally knows that Firefly fans will buy this DVD 23892348 times just PRAYING for a sequel!
I need to get a Blu-Ray player soon.....the LG and Samsung models will be able to stream Netflix's "Watch Instantly" feature. I need to look into getting one.
I'm bawling my eyes out here watching BTVS Season 6: Episode 16 - The Body.
I still can't believe they killed Joyce. OMG I can't stop crying.
I don't like Season 6 because of Glory, but I'm watching it because this episode and a few others really make it worth it.

Glory was in S5, along with The Body :)

See I was so distraught that I got the wrong season!
After I watched The Body, I immediately watched it again with the commentary with Joss on. *sniff*
I guess I needed a good crying jag.
I'm in the middle of rewatching it...I just finished 5 and am watching an X-Files season and Six Feet Under before moving on to 6 =) The first time I saw Season 6, I thought it was the worst....rewatching it, it's quite magical. Apparently it's Sarah's least favorite, for obvious reasons
This is scary.
