This thread is here to celebrate the melanin that has graced our screens over the years not ruin it with toxic opinions. If it's so ridiculous then you have hundreds of threads to attend were that behavior is allowed and probably respected.

That's kind of a shallow opinion of things then. You want the thread to be about people who only agree with you? How are we supposed to learn and function together then? The fact of the matter is Scott's comment to Nia was in poor taste, but it isn't exactly unwarranted. This is a woman who beat 2 people's ***** on her RW season, almost flung Jasmine off the stage at an aftershow, and who went around wrecking Nany standing on a table and calling her a cum-guzzling ****, and then poking Jordan's ********** and screaming at the whole house. Don't get me wrong, I was team Nia in all of those situations. It doesn't change the fact that they were very intense moments on the show that won't be easily forgotten. That is her legacy on these shows, was that she took shit from no one and was very aggressive when provoked. To say KVM doesn't have a point just is dismissing an important discussion we could be having. I for one don't see telling a woman who has repeatedly been violent and aggressive to behave having anything to do with race. Britni and Cohutta got DUIs, which is not a violent/aggressive crime. Kind of a false equivalency to say "why didn't he tell them to behave"? What does driving drunk have to do with behavior during an interview? Nia's legacy on the show is that she was very aggressive when provoked. VERY. I'm not saying she was wrong in any of those situations, but I do see KVM's point. If they were interviewing CT circa the Duel II and such, I would probably expect them to say the same thing is my point.

Exactly...thank you.

Also, we were robbed of Cory/Darrell as a pairing this season. Would have been great to watch. That dynamic with past alliances would have been infinitely better than Cory/Devin who aren't rivals in any world

this really is a big issue with us latinos, at least from where i'm from and i feel like it's been so normalized? and it's really sad

My fellow coworker and I were having a long discussion at lunch about colorism within Latin America and some people at the table were super uncomfortable about the discussion but her and I were like well this NEEDS to be discussed bc it IS a problem. It's a problem in the media, the government, workplaces, and various cultures. What I don't understand is when you have major networks that DO have these platforms and don't do things the proper way. Like that half assed special after Camila's Cancelled party. 45 min of that isn't gonna change America. How about they start by showing more of the real things like the whole convo Devin, Amanda, Shane R, and Simone were having on XXX? I'm glad they did show Day/Nelly tho

You know, part of my belief on it being so normalized was because the "we're minorities too" mentality.
Like as a Bi cis-male Latino, hanging out with gay white guys, they have show cased that "well, I'm a minority too, so I can't be racist" mentality, which ****** me off. So I think, maybe, that is a factor why racism/colorism is prevalent within Latino culture.
Idk. It's a day to day battle with understanding why there is racism towards black people in my culture, when tbh, we should be allies. But I also have a bit on the **** all white people mindset.

but I digress, since I'm creeping out of Challenge territory. My bad.

the fact that they weren’t even gonna the incident until he cast spoke on it at the reunion says it all

Here’s a question. After years of racist undertone moments, flat out racist moments, and production trying to cover up those moments like it never happened, why do you continue to tune into the show?

me personally force of habit, watched this show for so long something at least makes me interested whether it’s rooting for my new favorite or what else it may be. If I decided to not watch everything that was racist or had racist moments on it I’d have limited programming to watch unfortunately.

Granted I see myself phasing out sooner or later

I really feel like some people in this thread don't get the point of it. This thread is about disscussing black experiecne on the challenge. That means what the black castmembers go through, how they're percieved and what they do. That also leads to other bigger disscussions as well. It's not an echo Chamber.

Also this whole Scott/Nia situation needs to be let go. Noone is changing their mind on it and it's just beating a dead ******* horse at this point.

But anyways..

I watched all of Back to New York and Malik was very well centered and chill. The only issue I had with him was the whole Jisela situation. I personally would've snapped on her if I was him but Coral went and got her all together so I guess he didn't need to do that lol.

I also didn't quite get Nicole's gripe with him. I mean I KIND of get it but overall I didn't think it was a big deal.

like the comment Joss made to Da'Vonne about everything being "8 mile" and the hand on the hip, neck snapping, and eye rolling etc.

im a masochist

yeah but this show has been covering it up and doing foul shit in regards to race now for what over 15 years? they arent going to ever change, why continue supporting this?

I'm delusional and believe they'll one day listen and make the changes especially when other TV shows, networks, and movies are stepping up in terms of diversity. Its not even MTV as much as it is BMP to be honest because SallyAnn Salsano keeps her foot on their neck.

Just seeing those REAL conversations Coral, Malik, and Nicole had. Just unfiltered genuine conversation

This. Plus just the simple fact that ive been watching this show since 2003. FIFTEEN years now (which is insane). Habits are hard to break but they can be broken. Smile

I think another reason why is b/c the Golden Era wasn't like this for the most part so I KNOW what the show is capable of.....the reality TV game as a whole is SO ****** up now so I doubt we ever get that back (although FR has been the closest a season has gotten in a longggggg time).

Lastly, Ive always liked this type of unique competitive shit lmaooo and for whatever reason, there's STILL no other show really like it aside from Survivor (which is going thru its own bullshit) & Broken Skull Challenge. Ninja Warrior has also been ruined (I preferred Sasuke), ILM has been gone for a decade next year & most other shows like this simply come & go.

Why be delusional about it tho? Theyve proven time and time again, only to wreck your hopes...they wont care cause they know no matter what, youll keep tuning in.

If the audience wants change, they need to turn the show off for them to start listening. I dont think production of tv shows listen to their fans critiques because theyll keep tuning in. its when people tune out, they begin to search for why.

I think this thread has a great point, but shouldn't it be about fair and equal representation of all races, (except white, I'm in no way denying white privilege!) It just doesn't sit right being about one, surely exclusion is against the point!? And especially as there is next to NO representation of any other race!! That is the biggest and most shocking problem.

your heart is in the right place, obviously yes we would love more representation for any and all minority groups, however a portion of us on this site are black and therefore wanted a space to talk about black things. Not once in the original post or anywhere in here has it been said that other minority groups shouldn’t be represented. Again we can empathize but as a minority group speaking and having discourse amongst yourselves exclusively isn’t a bad thing.

You're completely right and I know a lot of my views and thoughts stem from 'white ignorance'. There definitely needs to be a discussion about the poor representation and editing of black cast members ( I don't want to offend anybody by saying that, but didn't want to use AA as I'm not American and theres Kayleigh too) And also the unfair bias and casting of racists. But all in all they are two different subject matters, and I get that this is just a specific forum. It's just a personal pet peeve of mine how few minorities of all races are cast, and this was the easiest place to take it. I hope none of what I said was offensive!

I definitely hear you tho. This show just has an uncanny ability of defying the odds in some way smmfh

Like Dirty 30 was a huge no-go once I saw that boot order but then V made it very far. Then Vendettas was a complete no-go as well until we heard about Kam tossing******* & making it to the end. Now this upcoming season is still a no for me but watch they end up casting one of the main Survivor girls I wanna see & then SHE makes it to the end.....this show is very consistent with annoying shit like that that keeps me tuned in to root for favorites :/

Ummm this thread is a mess! How y’all take something meant to be powerful and make it so ratchet and disrespectful? Smh

This is a Big reason why I tend to stay watching as well. I've been watching this show since 2001. I pretty much grew up watching this show so there is some attachement to it and it's hard to stop watching. On top of that I feel like they got a good group of people that they can move the show forward with now and I actually LIKE most of them so I'm willing to tune in.

I'm not reading all these new pages but let me just say yall really in here giving energy to KVM in a thread labeled "State of the Culture".

Next.

To move on from Phil the "Lawyer" & get this thread back on track......

@Witty you a mod right? Can you delete all that bullshit? Bringing it back to a thread of celebration. Smile

They'll never be forgiven for robbing this Legend. We can only pray that she's able to pull a Devyn in the future.
