The Challenge: Cast Member Rankings

Personally, I liked Wes on the Real World. He was definitely a ****** but I found him to be more likeable than either Danny or Nehemiah. Seriously, why was that season so popular? Danny was a good guy but I was so sick of the Danny/Melinda relationship taking up the bulk of that season.

Landon was okay. Kinda says a lot about the Philly season if he was the star. I found his challenge appearances more interesting.

Svetlana. Beautiful woman and can be charming, but wow she really was a brat. As awful as Tyler was to her, I couldn't say I was exactly rooting for her. She was very popular too but I never got the hype, to be honest.

I have no idea how Austin is so popular. It has IMO the most unlikeable cast of any RW season and quite frankly I remember tuning out of it towards the end. The reunion was more enteraining than the season tbh.

We'll never understand.....still such a tragedy that they somehow won "Best Season" at the RW Awards smh

I agree. I can't think of one castmember I liked out of that Austin group after that season. Johanna, I guess? But like you said, she wasn't very interesting either. I remember it won "Best Season" at that awful RW Awards Bash. I was very anti-Austin even on their debut challenge season, Fresh Meat. Rare case where I rooted for the vets over the new players. Lol.

Paula must be towards the top she has one of the most memorable RW characters in history

This board isn't the most legible, so once you're done can you do a recap of the rankings of every list you've done. I'm so confused tbh.

On the first page starts the ranking of every Challenge castmember (separate lists for men and women) up to the Exes 2 challenge.

Then there's a list ranking the Real Worlders from Seasons 21 (Brooklyn) to 30 (Skeletons). Currently, we're on the list of castmember rankings from Seasons 11 (Chicago) to 20 (Hollywood). I believe Seasons 1 - 10 castmember rankings are up next. Hope this clears things up. Credit to mph922 for the amazing work so far.

Joey Kovar #1 or bust.

Agreed. That Season was ******* trash and I remember alot of people hated that season at the time it aired. I still don't get how it won best season at the RW Bash. Should've been New Orleans or San Diego.

Your avi is so cute. Please post more!

Nah! GBOGH took that spot.

20. Davis (Denver)

Like so many others, it's hard to picture Davis being interesting and entertaining because for the most part, he was a non-entity on his challenge seasons. But he really made his time in Denver count. In general, Davis was a good guy who tried to do good things but inevitably ended up getting himself into trouble. His biggest moment occurred when he and Tyrie got into a massive fight about honestly I don't know what but then the fight escalated when Davis referred to Tyrie as the N-word over the phone. It was truly a low blow of course and it caused a night of chaos. I can still remember Davis running up to Tyrie who was sitting on that balcony thing and yelling "IF YOU HIT ME YOU HIT ME RIGHT NOW!!" and eventually having to stay in the hotel. I honestly can't remember the context of the fight, but it's never cool to use that word. He also butt heads with Stephen because Stephen disapproved of his sexuality and who could forget his odd friendship with Brooke? They were BFF but then he made fun of her chin or something and she went apeshit (as only Brooke can). Davis was also gay but very much into exploring his sexuality, like when he wanted to have a threesome with his BF and Brooke. But honestly, Davis was kind of a shit-stirrer. He was always telling people's business. But in general, I kind of liked him.

19. Irulan (Las Vegas)

Okay, full disclosure: 12 year old me could NOT tell the difference between Irulan and Arissa. I KNOW! It sounds terrible but I just had to say it. I always knew I liked one and didn't like the other, but it was so confusing for little ole me. It's funny because now I don't even think they look alike! But I digress. So at the time, Irulan was the one I liked but she did have her crazy moments. I'm actually not sure that Irulan was interesting, she was just intense. Like, she always seemed to be on edge a little bit. Her relationship with Alton was at times interesting and at times frustrating. She had a boyfriend back home and she went back and forth between Alton and her BF for the longest time. Eventually, Alton won but man could it be exhausting. Her boyfriend was always taking her back after she was like "I like Alton but I LOVE you" and then he finally had enough. Of course, who could forget Irulan getting upset with Alton having the threesome in Australia? And come on, we ALL know he did it. With all that said, while Irulan could be kind of frustrating, she always spoke her mind. Hell, that's WHY she could be frustrating but at least she was being herself. She could butt in to issues a lot, some for good reasons (Trishelle's eating disorder) and some were just being nosy (the guys bringing girls home) and remember when she straight up called their boss a molester? Good times.

18. Robin (San Diego)

It's kind of sad talking about the Robin from San Diego, because this was a bubbly, fun chick full of life and love. Sadly, the more challenges she did, the more it became clear that that Robin had started to deteriorate a bit. She became kind of a cautionary tale, but let's discuss SD Robin. Look, Robin was always a little crazy but she meant well. She had a sweet friendship with Cameran (I still LOL thinking of them jumping off the pier), a sweet kind of relationship with Big Rand himself ("boom bazooka joe") and she even tried to be nice to Frankie. Remember when Frankie brought home a pet snake and then Robin kept the mouse that was supposed to be fed to the snake as a pet? Now, granted she was drunk for like 98% of the season, but she was still an entertaining presence and generally well-intentioned. She was just kind of loud and in your face. I mean, she punched a cop and got arrested and had to post bail. Her phone call to Jacquese was as hilarious as Brad's was but for completely different reasons. Her sobbing "JAAAAA I'M IN JAIL" was hilarious, as was the following non-sensical gibberish she spewed. Plus, she dated that marine!

17. Cara (Chicago)

Ah, Cara Jessica Parker. As a kid, I thought Cara was really annoying because she just seemed really like whiny and insecure and she was kind of rude to Tonya who I felt bad for so I was not a Cara fan. Plus, I hated that she and Kyle would kinda-sorta flirt when he was supposed to be dating Keri but really he was just a ***** playing Keri. Cara was also ALWAYS upset about something. Like when Chris pinched her non-existent fat and she went on a rant about it, or being upset over like their Halloween play and shit. And man, she was banging dudes ON THE REG. I think they literally showed her giving a BJ in a public bathroom but don't quote me. However, with perspective I realize that Cara was just living her GD life. She obviously cared what people thought about her and was incredibly insecure but having grown up a lot since then and met people similar to Cara, I can sympathize with her a lot more than I could when I was 11. She was a single (?) girl in a new city and in her early 20s and she was just having fun. Sure, it sucks that you all your sexcapades were on national TV and on the season that they installed mics in the headboards, but still. I haven't rewatched Chicago in a long time, but I do wonder what I would think of her now if I did (if anybody knows where I can see this or ANY old season, please PM me). Also, I don't know if she created it, but she DEF sang the Tonya song "Walla walla kidney stones!!" Which reminds me, she also took Tonya to the hospital several times. She had kind of a back and forth with Tonya.

16. Trisha (Sydney)

It seems so far in the past now, but man did people HATE Trisha when Sydney was airing. She was constantly making questionable comments like her impression of the McDonald's worker who didn't speak English and right off the bat she had this kind of nasty attitude about her. It didn't help that she had a big ole case of resting ***** face and resting ***** voice. Like, she just LOOKED mean and SOUNDED mean. Like one of those valley girls that made your life hell in high school. I think that is exactly what Parisa saw too. These two were never gonna get along. It's just not in their DNA to be friends. It didn't help that Trisha was basically right out of high school when she went on the show. Trisha was kind of walking contradiction. She was an extreme practicing Christian who had sex and drank all the time (underage too, but legal in Sydney). I mean, I know she and her BF had a promise ring or some shit, but then she started seeing that guy Alex (who called her and Shauvon 6s LOL), who then of course Parisa was after as well. It was like SERIOUSLY? These two already hated each other and then this. They would just fight and fight and fight. And Trisha would yell at Parisa about how she's sorry that Alex wants to **** her and not Parisa. It was this whole thing, and as we all know it culminated with Trisha running up to Parisa and...lightly tapping her to the ground. Okay, I kid. I mean, sure you shouldn't push people but come on, it wasn't even a big push. It's funny how now you can literally blindside somebody with a punch to the back of the head or casually put someone in a choker from behind but back then you couldn't even flick someone. We all remember the moment. We remember Trisha's weird orange jumpsuit thing and the phone call "I have more hate for that girl than ANYONE in the entire world" (said to her like preacher dad, btw). And we all remember Parisa's decision ("Enjoy your flight"). It was one of the only times we really saw THAT big of a female rivalry on RW (Jenna and CeeJai being the most recent example) Hell, it's up there with the biggest RW rivalries ever (Puck/Pedro, Ryan/Preston, Zach/Frank, etc). Look, I didn't love Trisha. But there's a part of me that wishes she stayed because she MAY have shown some growth afterwards. And Parisa was no saint, as far as I'm concerned.

Man, I hated Trisha so much back in the day. Her and Parisa would have been a great Rivals team if they ever paired up. I remember how much she was crying having to go to the gay pride parade because of her religion.

Queen ******* Trisha. My *****, that season built up to their fight and once it happened it was so ******* intense

Loved Robin and Cara.

Davis was kinda frustrating but he was a decent presences ad was Irulan and Trisha was ******* horrid.

Also I'd like to give my thoughts on the other recent updates.

Cameron was awesome and still remember when she and Robin jumped in the pool to get out of work.

John was actually fine and I agree that I miss that John.

Issac was halarious and amazing. I honestly think he's one of the best characters this franchise has ever produced.

I liked Sarah but thought she could be a bit melodramatic. She was one I always wanted to see on a Challenge. Shame she never did one.

I didn't mind Jenn but she could be kind of a ***** at times.

Wes sucked ***.

Landon was Cool.

Leah..well her fued with CT was amazing.

Danny was horrid but felt bad about his mother p***ing.

Svetlana was a brat and I always thought  the way she was treated was unecessary.

I wonder if Robin is sane now that she has a family. I felt so bad for her on Exes

Okay, Cool.

15. Arissa (Las Vegas)

Arissa was not my favorite when I initially watched her season. I remember being bothered by her because she just seemed so...angry. Like, she always seemed so anxious and stressed and mad about everything. She and Irulan seemed to spend so much time just judging others and getting indignant about stupid things. She also seemed to enjoy putting herself into other people's business quite a bit, like Irulan. I can still remember how pissed she was at Frank when he was hooking up with a girl in the confessional. However, with all that said, I think I would probably sympathize more with Arissa if I rewatched the season now. I do remember being touched during their team building workshop because she had trust issues and it was nice to see her roommates come to her aid during those sessions. And there were times when she did genuinely try and help others, like convincing Steven to speak with Brynn about the fork incident instead of just kicking her out or talking with Trishelle with eating disorder issues. I think Arissa just needed to experience life a bit more and wanted more independence. My most lasting memory of her though is her and Irulan smoking cigarettes in the hallway. Good times.

14. Alton (Las Vegas)

I feel like on the surface, people probably think Alton is kind of boring. And I guess that's fair if you're most familiar with his challenge appearances, where he was basically just beat competitor, but kinda low-key nice guy blah in general. But, he actually went through a TON of shit on his RW season. He had his season long thing with Irulan which took up a LOT of screentime, even though they both had a significant other back home. He just banged girls on the reg. Cheated several times, had a threesome, lied about it, Steven made sure the audience knew how large his ***** was (and MTV did NOT do a good job trying to blur that thing), and he had some serious anger and trust issues that were touched on the show a bit but from what I understand he got a much better edit on his season than he deserved and was actually quite the troubled soul. But that's all understandable when you consider that Alton has one of the most tragic RW backstories of all time as he was not only molested as a child but his younger brother was kidnapped and murdered. That wasn't dealt with at length on the show but it's definitely something to consider when you consider his behavior. Alton wasn't perfect, and his relationship with Irulan and others highlights that, but he was generally pretty cool.

13. Tyler (Key West)

Okay, here goes nothing: I ******* HATED TYLER. I just have to get it out of the way right now because truly I found him to be (at the time) the most despicable person ever on the RW. He was an ******* drama queen who was never as smart as he gave himself credit for. But truthfully, and I hate bringing up this word because it's so overused and cheesy, but Tyler was a bully. His treatment of Svetlana was disgusting. Admittedly Svetlana was annoying and undeniably obnoxious to live with I'm sure, but this was a 19 year old girl that he was going around writing LITERAL burn books about because he had nothing better to do. He was just so relentlessly mean to her and in general just a toxic presence in that house. He was so terrible that he even made Bananas look better in their arguments. Plus, I hated his ******* high kicks. One of the best moments is when he did a high kick and completely wiped off the stage. And didn't he bang some guy in the pool? He sucked. He's gotten a little better since then I think, but ugh. The worst part about ranking him is that I don't even think he's all that interesting, but the fact that I have such strong feelings about him indicate to me that he deserves a high ranking.

12. Aneesa (Chicago)

You know, I kind of thought Aneesa was disgusting when I originally watched this season (as an 11 year old). She was always walking around naked and shitting with the door open and it didn't help that I didn't find her conventionally attractive, especially compared to the other girls that season (again, I was 11) so it was all just kind of gross to me. Plus, she was always yelling at people and she was so LAZY. Like, she would never wash up after herself and just seemed to think that she could get away with anything. And back then Tonya was so modest so they would butt heads about Aneesa's nakedness, among other things. I just remember thinking that I could never, ever live with somebody like her. But man, she was entertaining. Remember her relationship with her girlfriend Veronica? They were always like macking on the elevator, or Aneesa would be screaming at her from the door of the house (sometimes without pants out). I love Aneesa now, and I definitely think she's one of the best RW castmates of this era.

11. Greg (Hollywood)

Woof, Greg. I don't know when it happened, but I feel like everybody on Vevmo loves Greg now? It's just strange because for a long period of time, you literally couldn't speak his name on this site. I guess that's what happens though. Absense makes the heart grow fonder or what not. But make no mistake, Greg was a grade A ***** on his RW season. He came into the show with a huge chip on his shoulder because he was chosen by "the viewers" (aka the 12 people that actually went onto that site to vote for people) and right off the bat he started referring to his roommates as peasants and to women as associates. That's why when shitty things started happening to Greg that would normally make you feel bad for somebody, it was hard to be sympathetic. We had seen him just be an ******* so when his girlfriend (the miserable Reva) started hooking up with Will, it was more like "wow that girl sucks but so does Greg so whatever". However, in his big argument with Will (and Dave?) when Will told Greg that his father likely killed himself because Greg was gay, that was completely crossing a line. I felt bad for Greg in the sense that that is a terrible thing to say, but he was so awful to everyone all the time that the sympathy didn't have the same effect. Plus, he got fired and kicked off for basically acting like he was above the group assigned job and didn't show up to the reunion. But here's the thing: was Greg trolling the whole time? Like was he just acting the entire time? I honestly have no idea. If he was, he was very committed to his character.

I remember disliking Arissa too because she was always anxious and not chill at all.  But I rewatched Las Vegas again and she grew on me. I can't remember much about that awful Reunited season but I remember her roommates were against her to start that show (even Irulan).

Alton was okay too. He does get a favorable edit on these shows, since apparently he was trouble for production during the Gauntlet and he was actually pretty low key ******* in the Inferno 3.

Hated Tyler too. Svetlana was annoying but he went too far with her. Save that bullying for someone really awful like Trisha or Jenna from GB/GH. I remember he even talked a lot of shit about Paula.

Aneesa was a great RW addition.

Greg was so damn full of himself but I found myself rooting for him as that season progressed because Will/Sarah/Kim progressively got more awful, imo. I still laugh when I think about Will/Dave trying to bait him into fighting and all he did was just carry on like they weren't there.

Bye @ Greg and his big *** nose.

Hollywood had some potentially good Rivals/Exes teams in the making.

Rivals - Will/Greg, Brianna/Kim, Sarah/Greg

Exes - Dave/Kim,  Will/Janelle, Brianna/Joey (RIP), Sarah/Will (If Bananas and his unaired hookups can count as a team, then Sarah and Will's kiss definitely counts lol)

10. Trishelle (Las Vegas)

Here’s the thing about Trishelle: as a character, she’s not actually all that interesting. There were people on her season that were more complex and had more interesting stories, but that doesn’t change the fact that Trishelle is an iconic RW cast member. She’s iconic because her name is either synonymous with the downfall of Real World or the moment RW started getting good, depending on who you ask. Let’s be honest, most people would go with the former. When you think of when RW went became “trashy”, you think Trishelle. You think the hottub threesome with Brynn and Steven, you think the pregnancy scare, you think the Vegas season in general. But it’s Trishelle at the center of those stories. Is that fair to her? Maybe not, but it’s the way it is. And really other than the threesome and the constant Steven sex, Trishelle really didn’t do anything THAT bad. Like, she was basically just the typical small town girl thrust into a situation she had never experienced and ran with it. In general, she was a pretty sweet girl who meant well and suffered from relatable insecurities, like body issues. I was never a huge Trishelle fan, but I do think she often gets a bad rap simply because people needed to put a face to the Real World demise.

9. Parisa (Sydney)

Parisa was an interesting cast member because she was completely different from the typical girls they cast (and continue to cast) for the Real World. Not only was she Muslim, but she was book-smart and introverted(ish) and “deeper” than average RW girl. I mean, the contrast between her and the other girls on her season is crazy. And that contrast is exactly why she became an interesting cast member. She spent the season at odds with the other girls in the house because they were your typical high school “mean girls” and she was the “victim” being bullied all the time. It was a tale as old as time and man did they run with it. Trisha (and Kellyanne) were certainly no saints and they weren’t exactly the most welcoming bunch but let’s call a spade a spade: Parisa did herself no favors. She decided right off the bat that those weren’t her kind of girls and while they proved to her that they weren’t, she didn’t even give them a chance. It was like right away “those are the girls I hated in high school” so she made no effort. She spent the whole first episode talking shit about them, so then they of course spent the whole episode talking shit about her. She acted like she was above it all but she was just as guilty as they were. She didn’t like that Dunbar focused his attention on Kellyanne over her, and she went after the guy Trisha was into, and thus their rivalry really heated up. They were constantly fighting and picking at each other, and it was BOTH of them. Parisa certainly played the victim card, but she was giving it as much as she was getting it. It of course all culminated in Trisha pushing Parisa and Parisa sending her home with one of the greatest parting lines of all time: “Enjoy your flight. J” Parisa in general was cool but man she loved to play the victim. She had a cute friendship with Isaac though and I loved when she went running into the fountain.

8. Frankie (San Diego)

Honestly, it’s hard to write about any cast members who have passed away, but it’s especially hard to write about Frankie. The reason being is that I don’t want to speak ill of the dead. But you can’t talk about Frankie on her RW season without acknowledging that she was a…frustrating person. Frankie was a sweet girl in general but she was clearly very young and very entitled. She spent her time on the RW season making mistake after mistake and excuse after excuse. Remember when she made out with Brad on the first night even though she had a boyfriend? Or when she bought a pet snake just because? Or when they went to Greece and spent the whole time crying and yelling at everybody because I don’t even know why? She was a very selfish, un-self aware person who thought she could get away with anything she wanted. Frankly, she was a brat. And I liked Frankie and she was sweet and she really did mean well, but she made it hard to like her. Of course, she was suffering from cystic fibrosis which is an awful disease that sadly ended her life much too short, because she was certainly somebody who liked living life. And there was of course when we found out she was cutting herself, which was a scary episode. But then she was also afraid of boats (WHAT?!?!?!) and OF COURSE they had to work on a boat. And how could I forget to mention when she decided to leave because she was “2 punk rock 4 this”? It’s sad to think about because Frankie seemed like a cool chick but she really was frustrating to watch. However, what happened to her is terrible and may she rest in peace.

7. CT (Paris)

You know, CT wasn’t really THE CT we know (and sometimes love) nowadays on his season. Hell, he was credited as Chris! And his season in general is considered one of the more “boring” seasons, but he still earned a place in the top 10. It might be hard to remember now, but even back then the female viewers LOVED CT. My sister and her friends were probably like 17 when his season aired and I remember they were obsessed with CT even on that season. He was the ultimate bad boy dreamboat and this was before he ever went full psycho. He was that quiet guy who kept to himself and liked to push people’s buttons and girls just ate that shit up. Like, they all wanted to fix him. Plus, he had the accent. But really, CT could be kind of frustrating because he would not let anybody in. Half the arguments he got into could have been resolved if he was ever willing to listen to what the other person. But he was always so stubborn, and of course so was Leah. The two of them spent the entire season at odds with one another because Leah was a princess and CT was not about that life and would not put up with that kind of behavior. One of the best moments was when Leah received flowers from an unknown person and CT took credit for it and she immediately changed her mind about him…ya know until she found out the truth. He also had a kind of flirty relationship with Christina that led to a lot of little arguments (like remember when he ate her eggs? NOT COOL). And of course, the Paris season was the start of the Adam rivalry. CT shoving Adam on the streets of Paris is one of those moments that just kind of sticks with you, partially because he also hit a bystander that night. It’s interesting that CT became one of the faces of the Challenge season, because he never really seemed to enjoy being on his season while he was there.

6. Joey (Hollywood)

Again, it’s always difficult to talk about a cast member who has since passed away. Joey is another especially difficult one because we all know how he died, and his whole RW season was essentially a precursor to it. He spent his entire RW season on a bender, drinking heavily and doing drugs and just being completely reckless wit himself and the others. But it was especially sad because he knew he had a problem. He wasn’t somebody who did it and didn’t think there was anything wrong with what he did. He went into it knowing what his demons are and he just couldn’t overcome them. The night that he spent trashing the house while the girls (minus Brianna who was out of town) hid for their own safety was truly one of those moments that was scary to watch. Because, really, who knows what he would’ve done. He was throwing things all over the house, smashing things, and just generally wreaking havoc. When the group decided to hold an intervention and he broke down and cried, telling them it’s hard to admit he has a problem, it was truly heartbreaking. We all rooted for Joey because despite his crazy antics, he was likeable and we wanted to see him get the help he needed. He did decide to leave the house to get help, but I can’t help but be cynical about whatever therapy he got there because it was around the time Dr. Drew started doing celebrity rehab and shit and it felt very “network synergy”-like. Joey also had a cute relationship with Brianna because of their similar backgrounds and demons. The truth is, Joey was an entertaining/interesting cast member but he never should have been on the RW. I’m certainly not gonna say the RW killed him or anything like that, but that was not a situation he should have been put in (think Tonya on the Ruins) and it felt very exploitative. Who knows? Maybe it was good he was on it so he could actually see his behavior, but sadly it didn’t end up working out for him. Joey’s death actually hit me pretty hard because he’s from around my neighborhood so I know some of his mutual friends. When he died, he had a child with a girl, with another child on the way (with a different girl I think) and now neither of those children will know their father. It’s just tragic and it’s unfortunate he was never able to get the help he really needed. Hopefully he is at peace now.

Man, Joey's death hit me really hard too. More so than Diem's because he really had a tragic story. I clearly remember him saying in one of the episodes "One day you will all wake up and Joey will be gone." It's actually very haunting  now. I don't think he should have been on the show, honestly, because he was exploited. Hell, even the Soup would mock him a couple of times. But I never found his antics amusing or entertaining in a good way. It was seriously scary and sad. And deep down, you could see he really was a good guy and enjoyed the company of his roommates (even awful Sarah and Greg).

It sucks Frankie had a short life too, even though she could be frustrating like you said, but I still sympathized with her and it makes sense why she couldn't completely enjoy herself on the show.

On the others, Trishelle was meh to me. She was a lot more interesting on the challenges. But she definitely was a recognizable name for the show for a while.

Liked Parisa. She definitely would have fit in more with the old school Real World. But she also wasn't 100% innocent either. Her and Trisha would have been my dream Rivals team.

CT was definitely the star of his season. I remember my sister was scared he was going to get kicked off or arrested on the show. CT/Leah would have been another good Rivals pair. I mean, they were still talking shit to each other during Leah and Kendal's Inferno.
