I actually agree about McKenzie, she was a pretty good character that just got overshadowed by the antics of Ryan/Jemmye/Knight. And ***** I unabashedly love Jonna. But wtf at Nate, Robb, Hailey (love her but still), and Jamie still being there...
Honestly, Brandon's storyline didn't interest me all that much, but it was at least a breath of fresh air from the relationship drama and prank drama that dominated his season. Brandon always felt way too cool for school to me, in that I'm not even sure he ever even wanted to be on the show to begin with. He just seemed over it at all times. He could let loose every now and again and you could tell he really enjoyed his friendship with Robb, but other than that he was mostly kind of a pessimist. He initially had kind of a crush on Laura but of course she was into Trey which led to a big drunken meltdown by Brandon that he would never be as good as Trey or compete with him, etc etc. Brandon is mostly remembered for his addiction problems and getting kicked off for being caught doing coke. He fell victim to a "random drug test" and the producers acted like it was something they always did, but let's be honest they just did it because they knew about him. Personally, the most heartbreaking part of Brandon's story to me was the phone calls he had with his father, who as far as I'm concerned sounded like a great dad (especially by RW standards). I wanted Brandon to get better because his dad did. On the reunion, he didn't seem to want to get better to the point where they made references to Joey Kovar. I don't keep up with Brandon, but hopefully he's doing well.
Robb was generally a pretty cool, calm, collected guy. However, he ranks high mostly because of his relationship with Marie which was the TRUE "will they/won't they" couple of the show. Trey and Laura can take a seat. The thing about Robb and Marie is that everybody wanted them to get together even though it was clear they probably were NOT good for each other. I certainly wanted them to get together. I was rooting for those crazy kids! But Robb was the Laura in his relationship in that he barely had a backbone and he let Marie pretty much walk all over him. Plus, they had a weird back and forth where he was with some girl, then she was with some guy, etc. They really didn't even officially get together til like the last episode I feel like. If you saw the reunion, well then you know how it turned out...quite frankly we should've all seen it coming from that insane episode where Robb started beating the shit out of himself and putting out cigarettes on his bareskin.
I know everybody keeps saying Nate should be way lower, but I think people are confusing Nate's pathetic episode of the Challenge with his RW season. Nate was actually pretty well-defined on his season and I originally had him ranked higher but he got pushed down with some list shuffles. The thing about Nate is that quite frankly, he is the only person that showed growth during his season. Frank and Zach certainly didn't and the girls were non-entities that year. Nate actually started the season as being super homophobic. Everybody remembers Zach's homophobia but Nate was really the more outspoken one in the beginning. It even led to Frank's first HUGE meltdown fight of the season (first of about 58378). The difference between Nate and Zach is that Nate then spent the rest of the season building a real friendship with Frank to the point where they were buds in the end, even if Frank was still a psycho. He also had a few emotional moments like where he was crying over fireworks which was confusing to me but it led him to start doing suicide awareness fundraisers, so Nate was actually trying to do something good while in SD. My biggest problem with Nate was that he wanted to be a bit of everything: the jokester, the nerd, the homophobe, the alpha male. It was a bit much to handle sometimes.

No, Jamie got to sit back and watch everybody else have their ex come in and pass judgement on all situations and insert herself into everybody else's business. And then when she rightfully called out his BS by telling him that she is LITERALLY the reason why he was cast. It was hard watching her cry to her mom over the phone, but then it was hilarious to watch her roll around in a ball eavesdropping on people talking shit about her. And, her backstory sounded more interesting than anybody who was cast as the initial 7, when she was telling Jenny about her family life and being adopted, it was actually something I wanted to hear more about. Plus, while I wish she didn't do it, I respected her for taking herself out of the situation before things got worse for her and Thomas. Hailey had a Katie Doyle quality to her that made her instantly relatable, and it's honestly a shame we didn't get to see her in a proper season as far as I'm concerned.

So I know when a lot of people think of Sylvia, they think of Violetta, which is far. Those people may be wondering why Violetta ranked in the 50s while Sylvia is up here in the 30s. The reason is because while Violetta had a couple episodes dedicated to her in the beginning, she sort of fell to the background. Sylvia, on the other hand, was a constant fixture. I could never decide how I felt about Sylvia because when she was cool, she was REALLY cool. I liked her in general, she was funny and kind of a spitfire. But man, when she got some alcohol in her and got upset it would get UGLY. Between her dysfunctional with Bruno, and her arguments with Jason and Tony, and of course the time she tackled Madison from behind. This girl was CRAZY. And her tackling Madison was 100% reprehensible and should have gotten her kicked off quite frankly. And she never REALLY apologized. But Sylvia was herself the whole time, through the anger, tears, laughs. Also, she had the first skeleton, which really set the tone for the rest of the season in terms of how people reacted to skeletons (for better or worse). But her skeleton story kind of sucked compared to a few others.
Speaking of crazy, let's talk about Sylvia's in house boo (kind of). Bruno was certifiable. Honestly, at the start of the season Bruno was one of my favorites. He seemed relatively fun and goofy. But then, he just went off the rails. It all started with his relationship with Sylvia and he truly did treat her like utter shit. And then of course his brother came who he hadn't spoken to because of a terrible accident and fight, not to mention the fact this brother was now gay. He was just always angry. Always breaking shit. The worst part about Bruno though was how obvious it was that he hated being on the show, to the point where he completely isolated himself from the rest of the cast and began dating Carla to purposely get away from everybody else. And let's be honest, Carla was WAY too good for him.
Welp, one more skeleton down. I originally had Bruno and Sylvia ranked higher than Tony and then I thought more about it. While I wasn't a huge Tony fan, the two episodes dedicated to his skeletons were genuinely some of the most entertaining RW episodes in years, IMO. And yes, he got TWO full episodes, so you know it was good. Here's the thing about Tony: he looks like he should be so nice. He looks like such a gentleman with his perfect smile, and good manners, and southern accent. But man does he use that to his advantage, and to take advantage. He showed his true colors pretty early on with his treatment of Madison, but then to have BOTH his exes come on the show and he had sex/hooked up with all THREE girls in the span of like 2 episodes. That shit is SAVAGE. Like, seriously. He like legit has a sex addiction problem, I'm convinced. Tony's backstory with his family and drug addict father actually sounded like it could be interested but we didn't get to see much. All we saw was Tony stringing Madison along, banging chicks on the reg, and stealing beers and burgers bc he was poor. And considering he cheated on Madison on the challenge, then had a baby with Madison and is about to have ANOTHER baby with his ex, Alyssa, it's safe to say he hasn't changed.
So Sarah is a challenge regular by now and everybody knows her, but truthfully in her season she was kind of middle of the road. She had to compete with some very interesting/entertaining personalities so it was bound to happen. The thing about Sarah is that she has always had this air to her that she is so much better than everyone else, and that she is constantly judging. It was especially evident on her season which was basically boys vs. girls. She spent the whole season playing mom and secretly judging her roommates, like Ryan and JD. But she did have an interesting backstory with her father, who had sexually abused her as a child and kept calling the house that was truly disturbing and strange to watch. I felt bad for her then. However, something about Sarah has always felt incredibly judgemental to me.
Here's the thing about Arielle, she was pretty laidback and non-confrontational throughout her season, but she was INTERESTING. She kind of reminded me of like if Alex and Sam from SD2 had a baby who turned out to be a million times more interesting than both of them. Arielle was something kind of different for the RW, in that she was androgynous while still being feminine and she was the house mom while still being a party girl. Plus, man that girl was STRONG. Watching her take down big dudes like Brian and Cory went they went off was genuinely hilarious. And her story and big episode about people on the internet mistaking her for a man was actually heartbreaking and it was a real moment to see her so hurt by those comments. Because while she certainly was comfortable in her own skin, it's never easy to see these negative comments about yourself. And one of the "realest" moments in her season came when she and her friends taught Brian and some of the others about the trans lifestyle. It was enlightening for everybody. I think Arielle is probably one of the best casting decisions the show ever made even if she wasn't exactly setting the world on fire, drama-wise.
Averey's "persona" is a pretty common one for RW: hot girl. However, she was different from other girls that would otherwise be similar to her in that she was pretty unfiltered and open about herself. She was open about how she enjoyed sex, specifically more "kinky" stuff like ******* and handcuffs and shit. She was a Hooters girl but she was into comic books and zombies so it made her different from other girls like her. Plus, she's drop dead gorgeous. She also had her relationship with Johnny which was actually a fun one to watch unfold, and not insufferable like some can be (Zach/Ashley, Laura/Trey, etc.). Also, she brought along her dog Daisy (the best castmate tbh). Of course, bringing Daisy led to the biggest altercation in RW history. Now, I was firmly Team Averey in the Averey/Nia battle but NOBODY came out of that looking good. However, I couldn't blame Averey for going after Nia after Nia attacked Johnny off-guard with a blow-dryer. And quite frankly, Averey was no slouch. Considering the height/weight difference, Averey got some hits in and her ripping out Nia's weave and proclaiming "Boop!" (Nia's "catchphrase) was a truly inspired moment. Of course, the fight was seemingly over and then Nia completely sucker-punched Averey. It's honestly a shame that the producers are so lax on violence these days because that fight, while "entertaining" was pretty hard to watch. The fact is that, Averey wasn't afraid of a challenge. She wasn't some meek girl, and I can respect that she isnt easily intimidated.
Ah, panda. Look, Andrew might be the single weirdest person to ever be cast on this show. He is so different from the normal people they cast that he automatically belongs high up on this list. But even beyond that, he managed to bring quite a bit to his season. Between his pathetic attempts at hooking up with Callie and random girls at bars, and his weird pizza fight with Ashley, and of course being tossed off a balcony by Ty, Andrew got a lot of screentime. He was also the comic relief, and he was often times genuinely funny, if not a little strange. But Andrew also didn't really beat around the bush. He was pretty clear about his feelings even if they were often masked with sarcasm. Then, he got his girlfriend (Andrea?) and he tried to become more of a "man" and then that girl ended up being crazy, so.
Hey, look it's Ty the aggressively angry man who tossed Andrew off a balcony as a joke and pretty regularly screamed at Emily. It was clear from day one that Ty was gonna be a shithead as soon as he started arguing about Ashley's religion on NIGHT ONE. Like, dude it's day one just give it a rest. But Ty just like didn't understand his surroundings or something. He thought he could get away with anything, like throwing Andrew off a balcony or basically calling Callie fat. I also vaguely remember him acting like he grew up in some ghetto town like from "The Wire" but that he actually came from a nice area in Baltimore, but I could be wrong. Ty was just a very, very angry person who never wanted to take any responsibility.
It's honestly funny that JD ranks this high because if you only knew him from the Challenge, you'd be like WTF is JD? He was literally irrelevant on both of his challenge appearances, but he was actually pretty interesting on his RW season. Of course, this was the season that MTV decided they wanted to make more real (which only lasted this season), so he got lucky in that regard. But the fact is, I can still remember Katelynn coming out to JD and him telling her about his past history with abuse and "gushing blood from my face". It was actually riveting/sad. Of course, their relationship eventually soured on the show because quite frankly, JD was a lot like Ty in that he was just a very angry person. He always seemed so weirdly jealous of everyone and that he thought he deserved so much more than everyone. He could NOT take a joke at all, but of course could dish them out. And who could forget when he literally SMASHED their entire glass table in the living room and everybody was just all casual about it like "oh whatev just JD lol" like WTF that shit was CRAZY!! "YOU JUST CONTRADICTED YOURSELF!!" Psycho. I feel like he ripped the phone out of the wall too? And he worked at SeaWorld.
Man, we're just going through all the people causing property damage. Look, you might think that Bronne is ranked too high but I don't care, I thought he was a great cast member. He was genuinely funny and for the most part he was pretty even-keeled. Sometimes he pissed me off because he went along with some of Joey's bullshit even though I feel like he knew it was messed up, but in general I thought Bronne was great. The guy just wanted to have a good time! He was like Isaac in that regard. Plus, his bromance with Derek was fun and refreshing because he had literally no qualms about Derek being gay or how they may come off. With all that said, Bronne may have done the DUMBEST thing ever done on TRW when he threw that fire extinguisher off the balcony. I mean, that literally could have killed somebody so I can't give him props for that, but in general I appreciated that he didn't take it all too seriously. Except his zombie magazines of course, which was kind of a hilarious meltdown but like come on, brah.
No hints for next round, but I will say that at least one season has NO representation in the top 20. Any guesses?

And yes, he got TWO full episodes, so you know it was good. Here's the thing about Tony: he looks like he should be so nice. He looks like such a gentleman with his perfect smile, and good manners, and southern accent. But man does he use that to his advantage, and to take advantage. He showed his true colors pretty early on with his treatment of Madison, but then to have BOTH his exes come on the show and he had sex/hooked up with all THREE girls in the span of like 2 episodes. That shit is SAVAGE. Like, seriously. He like legit has a sex addiction problem, I'm convinced. Tony's backstory with his family and drug addict father actually sounded like it could be interested but we didn't get to see much. All we saw was Tony stringing Madison along, banging chicks on the reg, and stealing beers and burgers bc he was poor. And considering he cheated on Madison on the challenge, then had a baby with Madison and is about to have ANOTHER baby with his ex, Alyssa, it's safe to say he hasn't changed.
32. Sarah (Brooklyn)

So Sarah is a challenge regular by now and everybody knows her, but truthfully in her season she was kind of middle of the road. She had to compete with some very interesting/entertaining personalities so it was bound to happen. The thing about Sarah is that she has always had this air to her that she is so much better than everyone else, and that she is constantly judging. It was especially evident on her season which was basically boys vs. girls. She spent the whole season playing mom and secretly judging her roommates, like Ryan and JD. But she did have an interesting backstory with her father, who had sexually abused her as a child and kept calling the house that was truly disturbing and strange to watch. I felt bad for her then. However, something about Sarah has always felt incredibly judgemental to me.
31. Arielle (Ex-Plosion)

Here's the thing about Arielle, she was pretty laidback and non-confrontational throughout her season, but she was INTERESTING. She kind of reminded me of like if Alex and Sam from SD2 had a baby who turned out to be a million times more interesting than both of them. Arielle was something kind of different for the RW, in that she was androgynous while still being feminine and she was the house mom while still being a party girl. Plus, man that girl was STRONG. Watching her take down big dudes like Brian and Cory went they went off was genuinely hilarious. And her story and big episode about people on the internet mistaking her for a man was actually heartbreaking and it was a real moment to see her so hurt by those comments. Because while she certainly was comfortable in her own skin, it's never easy to see these negative comments about yourself. And one of the "realest" moments in her season came when she and her friends taught Brian and some of the others about the trans lifestyle. It was enlightening for everybody. I think Arielle is probably one of the best casting decisions the show ever made even if she wasn't exactly setting the world on fire, drama-wise.
30. Averey (Portland)

Averey's "persona" is a pretty common one for RW: hot girl. However, she was different from other girls that would otherwise be similar to her in that she was pretty unfiltered and open about herself. She was open about how she enjoyed sex, specifically more "kinky" stuff like ******* and handcuffs and shit. She was a Hooters girl but she was into comic books and zombies so it made her different from other girls like her. Plus, she's drop dead gorgeous. She also had her relationship with Johnny which was actually a fun one to watch unfold, and not insufferable like some can be (Zach/Ashley, Laura/Trey, etc.). Also, she brought along her dog Daisy (the best castmate tbh). Of course, bringing Daisy led to the biggest altercation in RW history. Now, I was firmly Team Averey in the Averey/Nia battle but NOBODY came out of that looking good. However, I couldn't blame Averey for going after Nia after Nia attacked Johnny off-guard with a blow-dryer. And quite frankly, Averey was no slouch. Considering the height/weight difference, Averey got some hits in and her ripping out Nia's weave and proclaiming "Boop!" (Nia's "catchphrase) was a truly inspired moment. Of course, the fight was seemingly over and then Nia completely sucker-punched Averey. It's honestly a shame that the producers are so lax on violence these days because that fight, while "entertaining" was pretty hard to watch. The fact is that, Averey wasn't afraid of a challenge. She wasn't some meek girl, and I can respect that she isnt easily intimidated.
29. Andrew (DC)

Ah, panda. Look, Andrew might be the single weirdest person to ever be cast on this show. He is so different from the normal people they cast that he automatically belongs high up on this list. But even beyond that, he managed to bring quite a bit to his season. Between his pathetic attempts at hooking up with Callie and random girls at bars, and his weird pizza fight with Ashley, and of course being tossed off a balcony by Ty, Andrew got a lot of screentime. He was also the comic relief, and he was often times genuinely funny, if not a little strange. But Andrew also didn't really beat around the bush. He was pretty clear about his feelings even if they were often masked with sarcasm. Then, he got his girlfriend (Andrea?) and he tried to become more of a "man" and then that girl ended up being crazy, so.
28. Ty (DC)

Hey, look it's Ty the aggressively angry man who tossed Andrew off a balcony as a joke and pretty regularly screamed at Emily. It was clear from day one that Ty was gonna be a shithead as soon as he started arguing about Ashley's religion on NIGHT ONE. Like, dude it's day one just give it a rest. But Ty just like didn't understand his surroundings or something. He thought he could get away with anything, like throwing Andrew off a balcony or basically calling Callie fat. I also vaguely remember him acting like he grew up in some ghetto town like from "The Wire" but that he actually came from a nice area in Baltimore, but I could be wrong. Ty was just a very, very angry person who never wanted to take any responsibility.
27. JD (Brooklyn)

It's honestly funny that JD ranks this high because if you only knew him from the Challenge, you'd be like WTF is JD? He was literally irrelevant on both of his challenge appearances, but he was actually pretty interesting on his RW season. Of course, this was the season that MTV decided they wanted to make more real (which only lasted this season), so he got lucky in that regard. But the fact is, I can still remember Katelynn coming out to JD and him telling her about his past history with abuse and "gushing blood from my face". It was actually riveting/sad. Of course, their relationship eventually soured on the show because quite frankly, JD was a lot like Ty in that he was just a very angry person. He always seemed so weirdly jealous of everyone and that he thought he deserved so much more than everyone. He could NOT take a joke at all, but of course could dish them out. And who could forget when he literally SMASHED their entire glass table in the living room and everybody was just all casual about it like "oh whatev just JD lol" like WTF that shit was CRAZY!! "YOU JUST CONTRADICTED YOURSELF!!" Psycho. I feel like he ripped the phone out of the wall too? And he worked at SeaWorld.
26. Bronne (Cancun)

Man, we're just going through all the people causing property damage. Look, you might think that Bronne is ranked too high but I don't care, I thought he was a great cast member. He was genuinely funny and for the most part he was pretty even-keeled. Sometimes he pissed me off because he went along with some of Joey's bullshit even though I feel like he knew it was messed up, but in general I thought Bronne was great. The guy just wanted to have a good time! He was like Isaac in that regard. Plus, his bromance with Derek was fun and refreshing because he had literally no qualms about Derek being gay or how they may come off. With all that said, Bronne may have done the DUMBEST thing ever done on TRW when he threw that fire extinguisher off the balcony. I mean, that literally could have killed somebody so I can't give him props for that, but in general I appreciated that he didn't take it all too seriously. Except his zombie magazines of course, which was kind of a hilarious meltdown but like come on, brah.
No hints for next round, but I will say that at least one season has NO representation in the top 20. Any guesses?
I really liked Andrew. I thought he was a great Real World personality and I think he would've been fun on the challenge. It bums me out that he never did one because he said that he really wanted to and, surprisingly, he was in fairly decent shape. I think he would've been a weirder version of Mike Ross...someone who seemingly doesn't belong there but Kenny and Evan and Sarah would've liked him since they're all huge comic nerds. He probably would've lasted longer than people expected.
I actually agree with you in that I would've loved to see Andrew on The Challenge. That Cast really got the short end of the stick when it came to that and it sucks because I think all of them would've brought something to the show. But he was alright on The Real World.
I really liked Bronne too. And his relationship with Derek was probably one of the best things about him.
Hated JD.
Bruno...I was the same in that I liked him in the beginning but when he became awful I just hated him.
Arielle's write up actually made me think about her in a different way.
Didn't care for Sarah.

I actually wish JD ranked higher. He was such a ******* drama queen and it was fantastic to watch. He had a rough backstory to sympathize with, but he was always around when some kind of drama went doen. Him dramatically throwing the phone in the ocean because Devyn didn't wanna take part in the house meeting was the most JD thing ever. It's crazy to think how irrelevant he is on challenges, but he was a great trainwreck on the show.
