Movies: Generic Thread

I really hope they can spice up Mockingjay... I can see it being a better movie than it was book... the book felt really boring for the first half, but it definitely picked up after the rescue mission. Who knows... I saw The Conjuring last night and it was great!! Movie was very well put together, the pacing was good, and the acting was pretty top notch for a horror. I didn't find it as scary as I hoped... its getting way to over hyped on that front... but its still awesome compared to recent horrors. Check it out if you get the chance! It's a fun time in the cinema... I will suggest though that you stay far away from the trailers... they spoil so many good scares.

The Wolverine was amazing. Boring at times but still amazing. I wanna see You're Next but I'm trying to obstain from horror.

Saw 3 movies this weekend. But I just wanted to say Kick-*** 2, was a superb sequel. It didn't lack in any respect. Solid acting and story line. I was excited to see it, because I really enjoyed the first one and it did not disappoint!

Batman casting choice... no... just no. Anyone going to TIFF this year? I'm seeing Steve McQueen's "12 Years a Slave" and I think its going to be fantastic! Lots of great movies and actors this year... I see a lot of Oscar contenders. Other movies I want to see are Labor Day, Devil's Knot, Gravity, The Fifth Estate, and Third Person.

I agree Ben Affleck is an awful choice. smh...

Not so much. Like who the hell greenlighted that piece of trash. I liked the first one though. And We're The Millers was meh but still enjoyable.

Saw "You're Next" last night... now thats a great low-budget horror movie! Very tongue-in-cheek black comedy!! I wish they advertised it a little more as a comedy than just straight horror, because I could tell others in the audience weren't sure if it was intentionally funny. Very campy OTT acting, silly decisions, family rivalries, and somewhat typical characters (some were definitely fresh though) It's predictable, while at the same time very unpredictable... you are never quite sure who's next until BAM they're gone haha There are some really good jumps too, so don't expect to be laughing all the way through, it is quite scary. Definitely recommended though, if you like horror movies... I'd call it the new-age Scream (without the "meta-" stuff... just very typical cliched horror movie, with an unexpected character that can change all of that). It's definitely not your standard home-invasion movie.

I would agree it is predictable I had it all figured out almost to the middle of the movie but I still enjoyed it the main chick now that is a bad a@@ chick. The deaths were enjoyable and the black comedy was great.

As we were leaving everybody in the theatre bashed it. "Wow, that sucked!" Definitely shows they didn't advertise it correctly.

The best one was the guy who was arguing with the arrow in his back. Funny as ****.

The box office numbers were number 7 for You're Next which was weird, yet surprising as hell. I guess they rather watch stupid **** like How to Make An American Quilt and other nonsense like Southern Wild. Wow.

Anyone go to TIFF this year? I saw the premiere of Parkland (About the JFK assassination), which was sort of interesting and sort of boring. It adds very little to a story we all know, which disappointed me since the premise of intersecting perspectives really intrigued me. It just felt sloppy, with not much character development. It's just... here is what happened, if you didn't already know. On the other hand, I saw the second screening of 12 Years a Slave, which was an outstanding film. I knew it was going to be a depressing flick, as we have to watch a man go to hell and back through 2 hours of relentless brutality. Steve McQueen really pushes the boundaries of cinema... this is one of the most graphic but true depictions of slavery in the deep south I've ever seen (still love Django though :P). The whippings, hangings, and hitting/slapping scenes were some of the most uncomfortable things I've had to sit through. I found myself staring at the floor a few times because it was too hard to watch. Getting away from how violent and depressing parts of the movie were, I have to say this was one of the most well-acted pieces I have seen in a loooong time. Ejiofor (Solomon), Lupita (Patsey), and Michael (Edwin Epps) will surely get Oscar nominations... I don't see how they cannot. I was literally brought to tears by the end of the movie (and I was trying to hold back so hard haha)... huge standing ovation. It really does deserves all the hype it's getting at the moment. I also got to see part of the cast for a 30 minute QnA after the movie finished, which was awesome! Brilliant! :) (also saw "We're the Millers" a couple weeks back which was surprisingly hilarious! fun fact: Jason Sudeikis sat 5 seats over from me at the "12 Years" showing lol)

Has anyone seen Insidious Chapter 2? I watched it Thursday and thought it was a solid sequel. It expanded the story and had good scares, I liked it. They're making a sequel for next year with the same writer.

3D + D-Box Seating + Gravity = One hell of an experience! Such a fun time at the movies... intense and amazing! Loved every bit of it (no matter how far fetched it got haha)
