The Real World: Ex-Plosion - San Francisco (2013)

The Real World: San Francisco (Two; II; Back to San Francisco; Ex-Plosion) is the twenty-ninth season of MTV's reality television series The Real World, which focuses on the interactions of strangers from differing backgrounds living together for several months with cameras rolling. Location work began in July 2013 with filming set to begin in the next few days. On July 17th, 2013 a permit application was filed for temporary partition walls and plumbing fixtures for a reality television show at 1244 Sutter Street, San Francisco California. . 1244 Sutter is a newly renovated historic property (built 1911) and the former home of the Avalon ballroom which hosted headliners such as The Doors, Janis Joplin and The Grateful Dead. . It his currently listed as having a total of 32,000 ft for lease, with 12,600 ft of column free space and 25' ceilings on the second floor. . On July 24th, 2013 a complaint was issued for wiring without a permit. . It states they are running data cables for cameras. That would be completely normal for a business in a commercial space, but the key tell is that they also filed permits for household items (e.g. dishwasher/laundry/range) which show this property is indeed becoming a residence/set. . . Bird's eye view of the property and surrounding buildings: . Real estate brochure of the house in PDF format More to come.

Me likey , San Fran is cool but they really should not have gone back to California, This is 6th time now.
Wow, I thought it was going to be Miami. They have gone to California a lot but lets hope it is a good season :)
Super excited. I really hope this is a good season.
cant wait to see the cast
Super excited. I really hope this is a good season.
I couldn't get much worse than the last one. The closest Subway restaurant is a 17 minute walk from the "house."
Who even cares at this point. Whomp whomp. Debbie downer.
I couldn't get much worse than the last one.
The last one was good until the fight. It had actual drama. Much better than St. Thomas or San Diego Dos.
The last one was good until the fight. It had actual drama. Didn't watch a single minute of the last San Diego season.
Well they've done a good job location wise now we have to see about the cast.
I can't help but laugh at the Charleston people who started the petition now. Looking at the dates on the permits makes me doubt they even considered Charleston.
I can't help but laugh at the Charleston people who started the petition now. Looking at the dates on the permits makes me doubt they even considered Charleston.
It shows just how pathetically disconnected Preston Charles is from anything inside BMP.
oooh San Fran! Me likey... especially since I just watched the original San Fran right before Portland started. It's too bad they didnt get another location like that one! That was perfect. This lofty-type building does look pretty sweet though! I'm excited to see what sort of cast members they got for this one... and I really hope its not a drama focused season (wishful thinking) I also love how they always surprise us... I have seen many guesses at where it could go or back to and not once have I seen anyone mention SanFran which is such a beautiful city. I don't mind that its another Cali season... its a large state with many colourful and diverse cities. :)
Wow, I'm really excited for this. I wanted ATL, but San Francisco was definitely on my list. It's such an interesting city and I think it's capable of being interesting to viewers. I really hope they play their cards right with the cast and this doesn't end up like another San Diego 2. After SD2, I don't think I'm interested in a storyline with a heavy sexuality basis, even though that would make sense in San Fran.
It shows just how pathetically disconnected Preston Charles is from anything inside BMP.
-What's Preston have anything to do with Charleston? -I don't think this shows anything. BMP is tight-lipped about its location and format choices. No alum is going to know. Even if he was part of some sort of Charleston effort (was he?), he's not going to know the city. -He's obviously somewhat connected inside BMP, considering he produced a special from them that aired on MTV, and continues to get cast for Challenges despite being wallpaper and bringing nothing to the table in terms of entertainment for the viewer. That's a pretty strong connection. Not sure why you're pathetically digging at him or making a personal dislike into an incorrect professional inference. Why Sahar and Eric haven't showed up yet is beyond me. Yes Eric didn't get much airtime, but he's an athlete, is headstrong in conflicts, and wouldn't be able to duck out and avoid drama like he could in a Real World city.

I would not have made a cold reference to Preston without cause. Check out the recent article in the RW General thread. A local reporter interviews Preston who is supposedly working on a reality show set in Charleston. He is one of the article's sources suggesting RW is coming there. (What he most like was doing was trying to promote his own show but received no traction from the reporter.)

I was not expecting this city at all
Do they have an obsession with the west coast? Three of the last four have been west coast and only Las Vegas 2 was successful. I thought they would change it up and go for a different feeling this year. I don't know a lot about Portland or San Francisco but just by looking at the streets and venues, they feel quite similar.
I don't get why they waited so long to start filming. The Challenge is doing really well now, they should've started filming months ago so they could keep The Challenge's audience going into this season.

The ratings are falling now week-by-week.
Why do you think the Challenge is doing "really well?" The ratings are falling now week-by-week.
It is doing well, the show is back to numbers that are renewable. It is not falling week-by-week, it's been going up and down. It fell this week because the biggest show on TV at the moment, Duck Dynasty, was on at the same time. Every other Wednesday 10pm show got hurt by that, and saw much more severe drops than The Challenge did. It's doing really well for what MTV considers well of all its show in 2013. In 18-49, as well as Teen Wolf and Catfish, and that's what matters. Not how it did ten years ago. Another indicator it's doing well: MTV showed a marathon of it today. It's been eons since they did that for The Challenge or The Real World. MTV's strategy is to marathon shows that are doing well to build even more interest. They don't marathon struggling shows to try to rehabilitate it. A show being rerun in a marathon on MTV is a good sign of MTV's belief in it.
Oh, I'm actually fine with this location. Would have been nice if it wasn't a repeat but oh well.
Why do you think the Challenge is doing "really well?" The ratings are falling now week-by-week.
By doing well I mean much better than the previous Challenge season and last RW few seasons.
so when will the cast names be put up?
anyone know how long filming for a typical real world seasons lasts? I think it was 3 months but I'am not sure
so when will the cast names be put up?
As soon as you compile a list and PM me the names.... Well, that or over the next few months as molds and I find them.
It looks like all the major outlets are now reporting that The Real World is going to return to San Francisco. Variety claims to have sat on the story, which is sad being it means they were catering to other interests beyond the story itself. Probably silence for access - which would not be surprising. That said, we clearly accelerated everyone's time frame with some patience and a little hard nosed research and there is no question that we broke the news.
As soon as you compile a list and PM me the names.... Well, that or over the next few months as molds and I find them.
Who is this molds of which you speak? I haven't seen anyone by that name in the last month on here at all. I demand to know of what has brought about this chicanery onto you to imagine the existence of fictional people

I think she can be found under the name "moldy molds."
I have faith BMP is above it, but I really do hope they don't try to shoehorn some storyline into this season that piggybacks off Pedro in any shape or form. That would be kind of shameless.
