For some reason, I have a really bad feeling that the mother is going to commit suicide.
Because of the horrible quality of the SD broadcast, I actually thought she did last week in that final scene. Only upon pulling up the video on my laptop was I able to see that she had a blanket with red stripes up to her face (and not blood dripping down like I first thought.)
I'm going to watch tonight's episode, tomorrow (big game on right now.)
For some reason, I have a really bad feeling that the mother is going to commit suicide.
I have a bad feeling too just because everyone was ragging on her for not calling her daughter so I think that will come into play for her response to the murder.
Because of the horrible quality of the SD broadcast,
You are so spoiled.
I doubt the mother will kill herself. She will become obsessed with finding the killer and may even kill them herself. My money is on the ex-boyfriend killing her accidentally as part of a **** business to support a drug habit and his dad trying to kill 2 birds with 1 stone by dumping the body in the rival campaign car.
And Maryann from True Blood! Her and Brent Sexton who play the parents killed me in these episodes. They were really heartbreaking at times.
I definitely teared up when Stan pulled his moving van to the body dump site, and when Maryann (I must call her that as it's all I know her from from True Blood!) was holding the phone and the little brothers could hear the dad screaming. UGH! Gut-wrenching that was!
We caught up on all of the episodes yesterday. It's too soon for me to point a finger at anyone just yet. Mr. OPD already has his heart set on the Councilman guy (can't remember his name - but he played the abuser in Enough). I told him I didn't think it'd be that easy. Or if it was, we'd probably think it was 5 other people before we figured out it was him.
I just don't know! But I really love the two lead detectives, the actors do great. I love how Narc officers apparently have "Narc weed" that he used to get some of the highschool kids to talk. Hee!
I'm excited for this series, I'm in. :D
I'm enjoying the series as well - albeit it's a little blurry. ;)
The acting is top notch and I love how just about every primary character has at least a tinge of suspicion tied into their personas. That's what is going to make this fun. I have no doubt there are going to be some serious twists.
Wow I have ****** Charter and even I get AMC in HD!
I had it with Dish in HD, but switched to DirecTV for the sports packages a couple months ago (full time NESN/MLB Channel etc.) No matter who you have, I guess you are always losing one thing or another...
The reason I started the series in SD rather than wait for the Bluray is I have a good feeling DirecTV is going to add AMC soon, so hopefully I will be able to catch the second half in glorious HD.
I feel like Alan Dale always gets cast to play important people. The veep in 24, Widmore in LOST, now a Senator?
That was him, right? Or is that the wine talking?
I keep forgetting to watch this show. I have them all DVR'd, I just haven't found the time to watch. I think I know what I'm going to be doing over Easter weekend now (along with Harry Potter watching) :D

He's been type cast into that role, but he does it well so no complaints across all the shows, including this one. He has gravitas! Especially after a few glass of wine.
I wouldn't **** with him. He'd have me snuffed out.
Still really liking this show and I am very intrigued about the dad's past in what looks like organized crime. Adds a new layer of motive or backstory that seems interesting.
The only concern I have right now, and it's small, is that I hope it doesn't start to follow the formula of ending an episode with a cliffhanger of a strong possible suspect and beginning the next episode by quickly debunking found evidence and clearing that suspect. It would get boring quickly if they just go through the cast scratching them off the list of possible killers by doing this.
I instead hope that they start building multiple stories at once with multiple suspects. It's much more fun when a lot of people are acting suspicious and you aren't sure who to believe.
The political campaign is still a little too detached from the rest of the stories for me but I'm along for the ride and eager to see where it goes and how much it actually has to do with the murder. We still don't even really know what happened to Richmond's wife which might put an interesting spin on him and the campaign.
He was creepy. I tried looking him up on IMDB to see who he was played by because he looked familiar but no luck. He'll just remain the vaguely familiar creepy funeral director for now.
This was probably my least favorite of the episodes so far because it dealt with the campaign so much and I really don't care that much about it. They need to give us a reason to care besides the use of the campaign car and the death of Richmond's wife aren't enough to spend this much time away from the case. It feels like a different show at times with no real connection. Hopefully there is a decent pay off soon.
The parents are putting in some great performances but I don't know how much more grief I can take. Hopefully they start to really snap out of it soon and focus on the children they have left.
Anyone think they caught any clues from the video or the stills Linden selected?

I didn't really like this episode either. But I have noticed that these episodes move really quickly.
I'm still trying to figure out how that video is considered "talent". It looked more like a bunch of random **** to me. I didn't see anything.
The teacher looks ridiculously suspicious so I'm thinking it's not him. Maybe that waterfront project Richmond is proposing has some connection to the mob? I think there is some sort of secret connection between the Richmond campaign and Larsen's mob ties.

I didn't see much "talent" either. It did look pretty creative when you compare it to what other teenagers might have put together. Maybe some of the images will come to mean more when we learn more about Rosie. We already know she has a thing for butterflies with her necklace, the big butterfly on her bedroom wall and the shot of the migration in the video that Holden made a point to talk about.
Good thought about Richmond being possibly connected to father Larsen's mob past. It could help explain how he made a name for himself so quickly and might relate to his wife's death.

There's gotta be some connection between Rosie and the Richmond campaign. I wonder how similar the plot in The Killing is to the Danish show Forbrydelsen...the names are certainly similar.
Although, the way that Berko was acting this past episode was really strange. I don't think they'd include him if he didn't have a part...

Well it's a remake of the Danish show so I assume they are pretty similar. I'm not sure how much it's diverged at this point because I don't want to be spoiled but I do know that The Killing team has said they are going to change the outcome so people who have seen the Danish version can still be surprised.
I know the first two episodes were pretty similar because it was mostly about introducing the characters and setting up the world. I'd guess that it would be around this time in the season that they start to move away from big plot points in Forbrydelsen and make it it's own show.
I know there is some connection with the campaign I just wish that a little more of it had been divulged by this point. Some things are becoming repetitive (like the stuff between Linden and her fiance, all the will she/won't she stay stuff I don't need any more of because she is of course staying) and other things like the connection and mystery behind Richmond and his campaign needs to be less mysterious and instead helping to move to story forward towards that connection.
I think we will be halfway through after next week's ep so I would like a little more development on that end by then.

I think I read season 1 was 13 episodes? So in two weeks we'll be halfway through.
I imagine over the next few episodes they'll narrow it down to two suspects, then finally get the person in the last one. I hope one of their final 2 isn't the teacher...I really don't think he did it. The clues are too obvious right now.
What did they say the ammonium hydroxide was used in again? I know the forensics guy said flooring, but he mentioned something else first.
EDIT: He said cleaning. That barely narrows it down, in my opinion.

Ahh, okay. I thought it was 10 episodes for some reason but 13 makes more sense for AMC.
I don't think it's the teacher either, though my "creeper" radar did go off the second I saw him. Hopefully he brings more clues to the murder as they investigate him instead of just being tossed aside if he's proven innocent.
I think they said cleaning, making bombs and other things. But isn't ammonium hydroxide just ammonium and water? So it's not like it is super difficult to get or make. The little bit about the killer possibly being a pro and even a serial killer at the end peaked my interest more than the actual substance. So now we may not only be looking for someone who could kill Rosie but could have it in them to kill multiple people! Back to the mob again, maybe?
Does anyone know if the end show was preempted last night because of the Presidential news conference? I have it on DVR, but was considering setting a repeat up to record just in case.
I kept getting sucked in. Now I'm in...
This is an amazing drama. Probably the best crime drama on TV right now (sans Dexter which is of different blood.)
I don't have any good theories (although I have many.) I don't think what we need to know has been given. I don't see this as a mystery where all the action took place in the first scene and we need to figure it out. Rather, this is a story where to solve it, we need to see the last episode.
No matter what, I'm enjoying the theater.
I'm definitely hooked now that I've finally caught up and watched them all. I know they are really trying to make it seem like the teacher is the killer, but I'm sure no one is buying it. Can't wait for the next episode.
they are really trying to make it seem like the teacher is the killer, but I'm sure no one is buying it.
The teacher is obvious as you have stated, so we might as well cross him off. That only leaves a "gazillion" suspects. ;)
I thought this weeks episode was really good. We got a few answers that we didn't quite know the answer to, although we knew the teacher wasn't guilty all along. Both cases are definitely connected someway I think. Another thing I do like is how it opens the story up a little more by what happened at the end and now that the father will have blood on his hands it will be interesting to see what happens with that.
I did NOT expect that at the end. Really Stan? You KILLED him?? Looks like he's gonna let the blame fall on his co-worker guy....but honestly, I didn't expect them to go that far. :(
So is everyone ready for the finale next week? Last night's episode was awesome!
I know people overall are mixed (because it moves so slow) but I personally loved the buildup and look forward to season 2.
