AMC: The Killing
Anyone else checkout the premiere this past Sunday night? I really enjoyed it and am always up for a good murder mystery. Here's a little bit about the show for those who didn't tune in,
The Killing is based on the wildly successful Danish television series Forbrydelsen (The Crime) and tells the story of the murder of a young girl in Seattle and the subsequent police investigation. The Killing ties together three distinct stories around a single murder including the detectives assigned to the case, the victim's grieving family, and the suspects. Set in Seattle, the story also explores local politics as it follows politicians connected to the case. As the series unfolds, it becomes clear that there are no accidents; everyone has a secret, and while the characters think they've moved on, their past isn't done with them. It stars Mireille Enos, Joel Kinnaman, Billy Campbell, Michelle Forbes and Brent Sexton.
They aired the pilot and the second episode together as a two-parter and you can watch them here on AMC's page for The Killing right now. My top suspect right now is the teacher. Anyone else have any theories?
I have it DVR'd and I'm going to watch it :D
Good, I want someone to talk theories with! There isn't a ton to go on yet but I am definitely intrigued.
I'll check it out too! Sounds interesting enough.
Oh and it's only a 13 episode run so the mystery will be solved by the end of the series. I'm not sure if AMC planed it as a solo run or not but if they do renew it I think it would end up being a whole new case. So for those not wanting to get in to something and never knowing the outcome, you don't have to worry about that. They also supposedly changed the outcome from the original Danish series so if you hear or read anything about that you shouldn't be spoiled.
I hope it's just as good as Harper's Island!!!
Sadly, I don't get AMC in HD (DirecTV) so it was a no go. It does sound interesting so I will keep an eye out for the BD down the road should the reviews hold up.
I hope it's just as good as Harper's Island!!!
Hopefully it has a better resolution than Harper's. The last few episodes weren't nearly as good for me as the beginning of the season. Oh and the friend Danny from Harper's Island is the teacher than I have my eye on right now. I think that might be influencing my decision a little. ;)
Sadly, I don't get AMC in HD (DirecTV) so it was a no go. You must listen to me! I am the TV Whisperer!
Whoever does the lighting on this show should be fired.
Whoever does the lighting on this show should be fired.
The car scenes are really dark aren't they? I guess they were going for authentic. Those were the only scenes I had problems with because it was hard to see reactions but other stuff, like in the woods, worked really well I thought.

Glad to see the girl from Big Love on this one, though. Maybe that will convince B to watch ;)

Isn't the teacher the guy who played Danny from Harper's Island?
Isn't the teacher the guy who played Danny from Harper's Island?
Yea, I commented about that in response to fab a few posts up. He's at the top of the list for me right now along with the male campaign manager to Richmond.

40 min in and I'm kinda bored...does this pick up tots?
40 min in and I'm kinda bored...does this pick up tots?
Yes, definitely. It's the first and second episode back to back and the second episode is much better. I think the break was supposed to be after they find her body? The spend quite a bit of time setting up, getting to know people and feeling out the vibe taking it slow. I liked the second half much better and the ending left me wanting more. So stick with it at least through this and if you aren't grabbed at the end you can probably ditch it.
Gah damn lighting...what were they focusing in on at the end?
[strike]I think the mark looked kinda like a skull when the flash went off. Not sure about that either though. I was going to try and record the repeat and see if I can make it out better on the tv. Or it might have been more scratches?[/strike] Edit: Just re-watched the last scene and it's a bloody handprint on the wall. So did you like the second half better and are you in for at least a few more eps?

That was a lot of blood (enough to kill someone) and the coroner ruled the official death as drowning, not stabbing or loss of blood or anything violent. And why would someone who just killed someone else go to a seemingly well-known area and not clean up after themselves? If they are connected, it seems very unlikely. My guess at this point in time is that the killer is the campaign manager or the teacher. This might be the type of show I watch online, not when it actually airs. When on Sundays does it air, anyway?
OH MY GOSH. I just realized that the guy who plays the co-worker at Stan's shop is Warren from Empire Records!!
I don't think the Cage is the murder scene but maybe the "pre-murder" party area where stuff went down that will lead them to the killer. I think it will have more to do with Sterling because she definitely knows more than she is letting on. Her cardigan was bloody too so she may have been there earlier gone somewhere else and ended up dead in the car trunk so it may just be more about constructing a timeline. We do have about 10 more episodes until we find out the killer after all so it can't be that easy. ;) Someone just told me that was NotWarren too! He's grown up nicely. I also got a weird vibe from him too but everyone is giving off vibes since it's the beginning and they are all suspicious. Oh and it airs at 10pm Sundays on AMC.

He gave a smirk in the first scene and it looked exactly like a Warren smirk. After I watched it I looked on IMDB to be sure.

I still need to catch this. AMC comes out with such good series that I can't imagine this would be less than pretty epic. (At least it can tide me over until Breaking Bad (OMG!). I may watch it online or if it reruns this weekend. Sounds interesting from what you all are saying though!
I've yet to watch it (definitely getting to that tonight), but it reruns on Thursday night at 8 central in case anyone wanted to know.

I'm going to give the repeat a shot (in SD...BOOOOO!) tonight. There is nothing else on, so why not?
Enjoy!
I loved the first two hours (so I guess the tag is correct!) It definitely had more of a Twin Peaks vibe than Harper's Island (which was inspired by, "And then there were none" - aka Ten Little Indians.) Lots of character development and hints throughout with quality acting. It had a raw feel. I'm sold and looking forward to Sunday.
I am right again! :D It is more Twin Peaks than Harpers Island but I don't really see any connection between the two besides the investigation of a teen girl with secrets in the Pacific Northwest. The vibe and style and most likely the resolution are all very different. I enjoyed the raw feel too and I still enjoyed it when I watched it again during the repeat so that's a good sign.
For some reason, I have a really bad feeling that the mother is going to commit suicide.
