I actually think it was Gauntlet 2 that changed a lot first, though it was the Austin/Key West seasons that changed the game and the feel of the show. Gauntlet 2 was the first with TJ as the host, the missions sucked, and most of the Gauntlets were just curb stomp battles outside of the two Name That Coconut games Derrick did. Inferno 3 on the other hand, nothing happened. There was no drama outside of CT punching Davis and Susie hating Tonya and controlling the team. I don't know, I just think that G2 was the start of the show itself changing, but FM and on was the cast changing.
1. The Inferno II- Best cast. People now always talk about an all-star cast challenge, this one had it (for the guys at least), CT, Abram, Brad, Darrell, Mike, Derrick, and Landon. Imagine those guys all on a challenge together now. The story lines were awesome, the drama was good, in my opinion the best challenge of all time. 2. The Duel- Unpredictable. Great to see an underdog win it (Wes). Great eliminations, great challenges, good story lines, first individual challenge. 3. Fresh Meat- This challenge was the transformation into what we see now. I just think that Pre-Fresh Meat, the challenges were so much different as opposed to Post-Fresh Meat. From Fresh Meat and on, the game got way more cutthroat and malicious. Pre-FM, the challenges seemed so fun and vacation-esque. 4. Cutthroat- For the latest challenge, I was expecting it to be horrible, but it actually wasn't. I thought the drama was great, the challenges were cool, and the concept was great. The elimination rounds sucked, it was almost like production or whoever makes them up couldn't think of anything so they just threw ideas in there and the cast was okay, not the best, but i liked how they included a lot of rookies. On the Ruins and Fresh Meat II we only saw 5 rookies total (CJ, Katelynn, Chet, Sarah, and Brianna), excluding FMII cast members. 5. The Gauntlet III- This challenge had an awesome cast. The story lines were great, the challenges were awesome, and the location was good. The teams were a little lopsided, and the final was somewhat unpredictable but kinda saw it coming. The Veterans team was flawless, I would've casted the exact same people. Other challenges: The Duel 2- awesome, but the challenges were almost all in the air, the were too many paired challenges, the cast was great but was so predictable as to who was going to be in the last few guys and girls. The only unpredictable thing I thought was Landon losing and how early Robin lost, everything else I saw coming. The Ruins- the best cast of any challenge, EVER. I would've replaced Ibis and Syrus with other more interesting people, but they still added something to the show. The outcome was so predictable and after episode 2, the challenge kinda got boring and annoying. The last 3 episodes that were surrounded by the Kenny/Sarah storyline got on my nerves. The elimination rounds were great and the challenges were cool too. Coolest house I've seen also. I really like the location also, it felt very appropriate for the title of the challenge.
After checking out the speculation thread and seeing who's hinted at being on the next challenge, this is gonna suck. I feel like on Cutthroat we got lucky with so many rookies but if Paula, Johnny, Jenn, Dunbar, and Kenny are all on the next challenge... ugh.
The Ruins- the best cast of any challenge, EVER.
Is it possible for there to be a "best cast of any challenge, ever" without Coral and/or CT being involved? I can't imagine, lol. j/k :P That was actually a pretty good cast but the outcome was boring and i stopped watching once Wes left. I think he's like the male version of Coral for me, every challenge he's on it's gonna be interesting.
Random question, was Gauntlet 3 and FM the only challenges where Coral never made to the finals. And has Mike ever not make it to the finals?
Random question, was Gauntlet 3 and FM the only challenges where Coral never made to the finals. And has Mike ever not make it to the finals?
1) Yes 2) BOTS2
Before FM all the challenges were classic they had great casts and were fun to watch. You see a major shift, especially starting from The Inferno III. I think a huge factor that differenciates the older challenges from the newer ones, is the fun times they had back in the day. Now they seem miserable. Also, in the older ones, more people were willing to do it. For me, the challenge isn't purely based on stregnth or manipulation, but having fun.
Abram, Katie, and most recently CT have alluded to this. CT brought up a bunch of stories from Inferno 2 on the podcast he did with Derrick. He brought up the infamous Miz-Brad wedgie incident, Landon's haircut, and a few other things.
Well it seems that they keep saying production is bad but it seems that the people they cast are just not as fun either.
I think it's harder to have fun when you're going crazy from being under house arrest.
Well it seems that they keep saying production is bad but it seems that the people they cast are just not as fun either.
It's probably both. I don't think most of the RW seasons since KW, nor FM2 have brought anything special to the show. But according to some of the reunion stuff that didn't air, production were total ****** to the cast and treated them awfully.
A few pages late, but my five favorite challenges: 1. BOTSexes 2. BOTSeasons 3. Inferno 4. Gauntlet 2 5. Gauntlet I'm also going to throw out the fact that I find Inferno 2 to be the most overrated challenge. I actually recently rewatched it and liked it a lot better than I did when it aired, but I don't see anything that's so special about it. Maybe because the Bad *** Team is comprised mostly of people I couldn't care less about and who(m?) I find to be mostly overrated as cast members, as well.

They just had fun. Now it's like a prison. Everyone mopes around the house now, and laugh like a distorted pack of hyena's, once they are all liquored up. Battle of The Sexes had one of the most diverse cast: They had castmembers, who did one or more challenges previous to this one, where BOTS was there last challenge: Emily (Extreme Challenge, BOTSeasons) Yes (Challenge 2000, BOTSeasons) James (Extreme Challenge) Amaya (Challenge 2000) Anne (Real World/Road Rules Challenge) Humor: Melissa Christina Jake Blair Dan People who were unintentionally funny: Antione Ayanna Puck Ellen Drama: Puck David E. Emily Veronica Rachel Melissa Julie Ellen (He told me he's going to kick my ***) and Sheer Competition: Mark Eric Colin Emily Veronica Ruthie Ellen... This cast had it all. Seriously it was just the most diverse cast. This was also the first time where it wasn't Real World VS. Road Rules.

Battle of The Sexes had one of the most diverse cast
I forgot about how much I loved that season! The spitting incident kind of shows how much things have changed. Jon Murray came and talked to everyone on the bus/van, and the solution was letting David E. spit in Puck's face (which I found hysterical). It also showed the camaraderie of the cast - they refused to compete if Puck had to leave. TOTALLY different (I think) than how the situation would play out today. And correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this the season that Tonya (and others) refused to participate in a mission that involved nudity? And they left singing "we don't have to take our tops off to be liked"? Yeah, times sure have changed.

The challenge was called Battle of the Opposite Sexes and if you answered a question wrong you had to take off an article of clothing. I'm sure if this challenge was played today, every single cast member would be more than willing.

The guys were allowed to help the girls build the wood houses (Except for Emily and Christina, who actually finished). All the girls even had there periodsaround the same time... how much closer can you get? Battle of the Opposite sexes. Jake won and still got naked. Ellen did really well for the girls. And Veronica said the only one who really had a moral dilemma was Anne. Emily got mad at James for playing! It was just a great challenge. It had good people, good missions (Breathe hold bungee, Dead Man's Drop, Freeze your Butt off, Stairway to Heaven and Leaky River) good humor and good drama. Imagine now, people are wanting people to get voted off. The only reason Jenn didnt get off FM2, by Mandi, was because of Noor. I must admit I loved this challenge and the intro. And it had memorable lines "I would Love, Love, Love to send Emily home"Veronica, "He had a Machete, A Mache-TE" Ayanna, "If anyone wants to know what **** is like, being around a bunch of women on their period and PMSing is ****" Genesis, "He told me he's going to kick my ***" Ellen and of course "The mountains are going to crumble, the world is going to end, Ellen's life has been threatened" Dan

The very concept is degrading in my opinion.
I know several cast member who would object on moral grounds. The very concept is degrading in my opinion.
It really was very tame, though (except for the cast members that wanted to show it all). They were kind of hidden behind a podium and frosted glass or something - it's been a long time since I've seen it, so my memory is kind of fuzzy - and the only way to have to take off clothing was to answer a question wrong. So, if you weren't 100% sure, you wouldn't answer and therefore get to keep all of your clothes. I really couldn't understand why anyone refused to participate. However, I TOTALLY understand not wanting to get nekkid on TV. Why not just be present for your team, and not answer anything? Or answer a question or two, and the worst that would happen is you lose your shoes?

I think you left out the some of the best quotes silly: "This game is Uh-guh-ly. The inner circle is Uh-guh-ly and I don't want a be a part of it anymore. Peace out." -Rachel "Shut up, Wonk Wonk. Shut up. We're the first ones going Eric and I think you might be a little concerned about what the rules are and what they are not. Oh wait, I'm sorry, you're the Buddhist." -Ellen "Yes this is more of the competitor I wanted to be (show's mullet). Business in the front, party in the back. We've got 5 black guys and a dude with a mullet. You want some of that?" -Puck "Sun Tzu would have done that." -Eric "Who's Sun Tzu." -Puck "That famous war general" -Eric "Oh I don't know that, I'm just white trash." -Puck "Gah I love Filipinos." -Melissa after Ruthie won the Maximum Velocity mission for the girls. "We're not deliberating as an inner circle, because there really is no vote. And the women aren't voting because after 12 missions they have finally realized that voting the lowest cumulative score actually helps your team." -Colin "A trip to Jamaica: $652, buying Aeropostale clothes: $22, having the judge tell Antoine "nice b***r": priceless." -Colin
I found it interesting that in Battle of the Sexes 1, there was a hot tub. But there was NEVER a scene with the cast in the hot tub or getting wild. The only time you ever saw somebody in it was when you saw a short clip of Emily and James coming out of it to see Puck's baby.
Battle of the Sexes had the best cast in challenge history in my opinion, really good combination of people.
Battle of the Sexes had the best cast in challenge history in my opinion, really good combination of people.
I personally preferred the Battle of the Seasons cast.
I personally preferred the Battle of the Seasons cast.
That is my second favorite cast and had people that i really liked like Chadwick, Belou, and Josh. But BOTS just had some many good combinations of people.

Does anyone remember that sweat mission? The teams had to work up a sweat and collect as much as they could in a certain amount of time or something like that. What challenge was that on btw? Anyway, that has to be one of the most disgusting missions ever. But I think the Ice Cream mission in The Gauntlet was way more disgusting though, i boycotted ice cream at least a couple of weeks after that. lol
I personally think Battle of the Sexes 2 was the best cast ever hands down. (Coral, Veronica, Tonya, Tina, Mike, Eric, Mark, Robin, Brad, Katie etc.) The Ruins had the best cast in recent years. It was a great balance of old school cast members (Veronica, Syrus, Darrell, Susie, Katie etc.) with new ones (Kenny, Evan, Johnny, Kelly Anne etc.)

Wonk, Wonk... hahah that is awesome, it sounds like the noise you make when you grab someones butt. Wonk Wonk! That was awesome. It was only shown at the reunion. Ellen was hysterical. It was in commericial for BOTS and then in the reunion. I forgot about Ray. This game is UGGGLLLYYYYY. That is one of the best quotes ever. Maybe because you seldom saw the hot tub. Back in those days they didn't need drunken hookups in the hot tub. The hot tub was barely shown. That's how you know the challenge was great! And as for Molds... I completely see where you are coming from. BOTseasons had a steller cast. I put them side by side, cast wise. The only thing missing from BOTSeasons, was Shelley Spottinghorse and Los from RR1. If they were on it... forget about it, it would be the best cast ever. Not just in a reality show, but in every show. We want Shelley Spottinghorse! And they had Belou and her Mullet! Her Mullet was classic! what a mess. She was awesome. And another random mission I loved was on Challenge 2000, when they had the keep a ball constantly moving for 24 hours, and the first team to have the ball stop for more than 3 seconds loses. I think Kit lost it for The Real World. I loved that challenge.
Kit was on Road Rules.
I meant kat... KitKat... break me off a piece of that... The names get confusing. Kat from London, I meant.

And i agree about Shelley being on a challenge, she was really cool. The Battle of the Seasons was the best looking challenge to me, it had the best location, and the cast intro and theme was really cool, also the logo. He was ****** off when he lost it for them too, pretty funny("I wanna f'ing kill these camera people man and i don't even know why.."). That mission was probably the most unique mission in challenge history.
