What happened?
Galarraga had a perfect game. Not a no-hitter, not a shut-out...a perfect game.
Batter #27...hit to Cabrera. He tosses to Galarraga covering first.
Umpire calls him safe.
HE WAS CLEARLY OUT BY A STEP.
No perfect game.
This look close to anyone else?

I didn't think so.
He didn't seem too ****** because he hadn't seen the replays. Leland was ******. Cabrera wouldn't shut his mouth and I'm pretty sure Gerald Laird might get suspended for bumping into him.
But...gotta love Wikipedia.
Well this will just go into the column of why baseball should have instant replay for some calls.
Oh absolutely. It's a shame they don't have it.
Oh absolutely. It's a shame they don't have it.
While I love the idea of replay, in the end we are talking about one game in around 2400 + played in a given year, and the outcome was not changed.
Now, you start adding 5 minutes an inning for replay calls (or 45 minutes a game) across 2500 games and you can see why it is not something MLB officials want. It is bad enough that Yankee/Red Sox games as is last 5 hours and end well out of prime time.
Just saying...
Sure, maybe they can give the skipper a weighted yellow flag to throw out a couple times a game, but I just don't know.
In other news, Ortiz was just intentionally walked with 1 out and 1 on and is on base for the 4th time tonight. Who would have called that in April? Not me.

I told you! You just gotta keep the faith alive! :D

Hmm, I am going to have to go back and look at the official record on this one, but I'll admit I was ready to send Ortiz to the Portland Sea Dogs toward the end of April.
Not that it was just him. The entire team was sucking, especially the pitching. He is just one cog, but really the face of the team and when his swing was 2 seconds after the ump called him out, let's just say I was concerned, a bit. ;)

If I remember correctly you basically threw up your arms and said that you were one of the people asking for his head on the Boston.com message boards. I said something along the lines of it being sad to see him so helpless and we probably should put him out of his misery but I couldn't forget the stuff he had done in the past.
Feel free to correct me if my memory has failed me. ;)

Whatever. I was drunk. :D
That said, Ortiz has no place on my fantasy baseball starting roster next April, heh.
Oh. And Griffey retired. Did I miss that?
Well ya, in like 1991.
Oh...you mean that other Griffey who hasn't mattered for a decade but was at one time thought to be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Hmm, I didn't really hear that either. Guess he went out with a whimper?
Ok, found a story. Kind of sad, but what can be said, beyond he probably should have taken advantage of the steroid era and he'd be flying by Barry "HGH" Bonds right about now in homeruns...

Does 630 home runs count as a whimper? Heh.

The problem is how he is going out. That would be the whimper (you know, the stories of him sleeping in the clubhouse during a game, etc.) Quitting mid season, is not the way to go. He should have said this would be his last and played and offered everything he could until he retired, at the end of the season.
I get the impression from the initial news, that he just lost his passion for baseball...
He quit.
So yes, he will be a first ballot guy in the Hall, but fans like me who worshiped him in his greatness way back when, will need a few years to pass before we forget the sad, sad, end.
As much as I hate, hate, [strike]ARoid[/strike] ARod, I have a feeling there will be a grand tour when he finally leaves the game as probably one of the greatest ever to play (and it should have been Griffey's tour.)

That story was great. But yes, I also get the impression that he just doesn't care anymore.
Looks like the commissioner is looking into the game, so it just might yet be ruled perfect.
That would be great. At the same time, I can only imagine that there is nothing like celebrating a perfect game on the field with your teammates the seconds after it happens...
There's always a shaving cream pie though :D
Looks like the commissioner is looking into the game, so it just might yet be ruled perfect.
It should be because that was the most ridiculous call of all time maybe in any sport. What the **** was the umpire doing during that play ? Anyways, I believe the guy got the very next out and for the hideous call there is clear evidence that the runner was out by a foot or foot and a half. I mean this is a perfect game we're talking here it ain't like the missed call was on a close play that lost a game for a team in April or May or something this is a perfect game. Only twenty perfect games have have ever happened.
I would have wanted to punch him in the face, but I think both parties definitely showed real class.
For all that invades pro sports -- ego, posturing, disloyalty, insane tweet wars -- Armando Galarraga and Jim Joyce turned an awful storyline around so gracefully. Galarraga was mad and excited and shocked, and even a bit sad -- not just for himself. About 45 minutes after the game, Joyce called him out of the clubhouse and apologized to the pitcher for soiling his slice of fame, what would have been only the 21st perfect game in major-league history. ... There were few words, just a deep apology, as tears welled in Joyce's eyes. "He feels really bad, probably worse than me," said Galarraga, who began the season in the minors in Toledo. "I give a lot of credit to that guy, to say he's sorry. I gave him a hug. His body English said more than the words. Nobody's perfect, everybody's human."
Dice-K pitched a great game today, but I wonder if he really listens to VMart calling the game. He is known to be quite stubburn when it comes to what he is going to throw.
Victor, if you are reading this, we all know Dice-K is working on learning English, but why don't you bust out some Spanish in one of those mound conferences to see if he is really paying attention, lol.
Vmart: Estuviste tomando alcohol?
Dice-K: Hai!
VMart: ****** bebidas alcoholicas tomaste hoy? Uno o dos? Diez?
Dice-K: Hai!
VMart: Pon tus manos en tu cabeza!
Dick-K: Hai!
VMart: Ok...I'll be going back behind the plate now to call the game. ::sigh::
Dick-K: Daijoubu.
Lol I still love them both, even if they do have a bit of a disconnect.
I'd love for our pitchers not named Bucholz/Lester/Bard to really get their stuff together (consistently) and we'll have a really killer team. It's incredible how good our division is this year.
Stephen Strasburg, wow.
I had him on my fantasy team scout roster from the beginning, but in making all the moves I do, didn't leave a spot and lost him. That said, he is going to have a great initial run. He had 14Ks in his debut. Sure, teams have been scouting him and they will learn, also he does play for the Nationals...but the kid is making announcers challenge the Speed gun! haha (he clocked one at 103 today.)
I don't care how well you scout a pitcher. With 103MPH fastball rising and on the corner, you can scout all you want and still miss by a month...
Sox should sign him in just a few years! Can't wait! Haha....

That was a very impressive debut. Too bad i forgot to set my fantasy line-up this week or i would have started him.
