Real World 25 - Casting

Hey gang, sorry if some of this seems redundant and lengthy, but I'm real excited and sharing my experience was part of the reason why I decided to go the casting in the first place... So, the casting was held in my home town (Chicago, IL) in this really nice bar/restaurant place. I went with a group of my friends (one who was a VIP, but still waited in line with us) and when we got there we waited in a line outside of the place. Two of my buddies got beers from the 7 Eleven up the street and drank them outside to help time pass. We waited outside for like an hour and once we got in the checked our IDs and gave the 21+ year olds wrist bands so the bartenders could serve them. From here they gave each of us an application, and explained to our VIP friend that her "perk" ends here. We got a table and filled out this 2 page application which had questions on it like "What's your worst/best qualities", "most embarrassing moment", "something unique about yourself", "parent relationship question", etc. I filed out my application honestly and to the best of my ability and i think I had some solid answers. My buddies mostly put joke answers, but the girls were real honest like me. We ordered food and from where we were sitting we could see the group interviews taking place, some people seemed nervous, some talked more than others, etc. At the end of a few of them, 1 or 2 people stayed back and were sent to the upper level of the bar, I assume these are the ppl that make it to round 2. Each application had a number on it (I was Chicago 205) and after a while they called a girl from our table (177). After she was finished she said her group was asked to describes themselves to the interviewer and to say something unique about themselves that she (the interviewer) wouldnt know by just looking at them. ACTUAL INTERVIEW HERE, SORRY By the time my groups number got called, we'd realized that we got skipped accidentally, so we made a playful scene about the mix up and were escorted to our interview table. There were 11 ppl total, five of us were me and my friends, then 6 strangers, this made me feel more comfortable. The interviewer mentioned how he casted Natalie for the Bad Girls Club. We were first told to say our name, age, city, and a interesting info about ourselves. The first 2 girls that went, were friends and WAY too prissy/snobby, the rest of the table hated them. One of them mentioned how she wrote a memoir. The 3rd guy was gay and the only other black guy in the group. He was soft-spoken, said he wanted to "figure himself out'. The 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th ppl were my friends, mostly all drunk and the 4th guy got yelled at for not signing the back of his application. The interview guy commented on how funny our pics were (B&W facebook shots on cpu paper). When it was my turn to talk I said my name, 20 years old from Chicago, IL. "I'm not 21 yet, but I just got a fake ID and I put that b**** to work last night". Everyone laughed, even the interviewer. I then talked about how I was wearing the same clothes from last night, and that I was hungover. I said something like "in the real world you dont always get a chance to shower and change, so excuse me if I stink" laughter again. From here I mentioned the school I attend, my year, and the fact that I want to be a radio DJ. I stopped talking at this point, and the interviewer then asked me "Are you studying anything for that?" this threw me off because he hadnt asked anyone else a question, I continued by mentioning my Major in school, and why I love radio. He seemed like he wanted me to say more, but i just shut up. the last 3 ppl that went were a "Bad Girl", a triplet country boy, and a spicy Latina. When triplet and Bad Girl were done talking, I told them that I really love them, and told country his teeth were really nice, which they were, he then thanked me. After this, we were told to say one word that best describes us. Everyone but me said an adjective (Latina "spicy", triplet "driven", a buddy of mine "ambitious", etc.). When it got to me I wanted to stand out so the word I chose was "rendezvous", everyone laughed, and I explained to the interviewer that the word I chose is complicated like me and I then challenged him to spell it. He admitted that normally he was a good speller but that I had stumped him. He then wrote everyone's name down and their chosen word. Next to my name was "rendevousz". Once everyone said there word the interviewer said that we could hear back from them between one day or 2 months. A buddy of mine then asked could we go upstairs, and the interviewer stated that "those ppl are just doing surveys". He said it real nonchalantly, but he couldve been lying. He thanked us, and we left promptly. Sorry about the length!
My casting call was boring in DC.
OMG so the Chicago Casting call, um lame. I really saw no one getting sent upstairs so I wonder if maybe they DID choose people to fill out the long app. But that bar has no second floor...i know that for a fact.

Everyone was coming out right after their group interview at my casting call. The interviews took place upstairs so everyone got to go up. They sent the groups up before the other groups were even finished so we saw everyone leave as we were going in.
That is how mine was! Everyone left at the same time!!!

Ours was a great debate; it was such a diverse group, we had a latino that had a thick accent, 2 canadians, a muscular gay dude, a lesbian, a sexy black girl, and a 2 meathead football types. We were all friendly talking in line and sharing stories, then we were grouped together at a table. They asked or names, age, and something interesting about us. The latino dude said he used to be fat and didnt leave his basement for 2 years because he was depressed I was unsensitive and laughed. Lesbian girl said she did adult films. Then he asked us about our most embarassing moment... Mostly everyones was a drunken or sexual story. The meathead talked about his g'ma catching him wacking it then having a seizure like some stuff 4rm american pie. Then we were asked about how do we feel about race relations in America. Being a political science major I dominated this topic. I started it off and rubbed the latino the wrong way. I over talked and preached my points; I wasnt trying hard but, they just so happen they picked something Im passionate about. The Lesbian told me to shutup and I kept talking. Me, One of the meatheads were chosen, and they black girl that barely said anything was chosen as well. We we stayed there and the latino called me a ******) when the director asked me to stay. After the latino called me a ****** the casting guy said he could stay too. He explained the next part of the process and I filled out a very personal thick packet that almost brought me to tears with some of the questions. That night @ 7 got a phone call 4 an on camera interview. Wish me luck guys =) Thank God my casting was based on substance becuz when I looked at the ppl filling out packets I was defintely the least attractive and thats just me being honest Im not an ugly person but a major part of casting is sadly looks. Hopefully I make it; Wish me luck guys
Awesome, they just posted a casting in Seattle. Finally they have something in the Pacific North West. So often they overlook this area! God knows they always have cast members from Cali, the east coast, even the midwest gets more exposure as they try to find that "small town America" cast member! If they are trying to make season 25 a "serious" season, I hope they find what they're looking for in Seattle! The people here are so down-to-earth, artistic, genuine, and politically conscious. We're continuously rated as the most literate city in America and our state recently became the first in the US to extend domestic partnership benefits to LGBT couples through Ref 71! We also have large, multicultural, Asian and Middle Eastern communities. I think the RW Seattle season reflected the city well! I have my fingers crossed that this season is somewhere nearby, maybe in Portland or even Vancouver, BC!
I tried out for real world 17 by sending in a tape. Heard nothing back. Over a year later I got a call from the real world asking for my email. I gave it to them confused it was then real world 19. I was asked to submit the lengthy app. Then I got called two weeks later to do a phone/camera interview. My mom kept yelling at me during the interview and I never heard from then again. I heard about rw25 casting on the radio and decided to go (DC). I went barely anyone was there. I got there at 11 am. I went with 10 or so people and I thought I did well but 3 people were asked to stay back. I heard them ask one of them about the fact that she lived an hour and a half away. We were told that we would get a call by 10 pm. I thought for sure I would get a call because I made jokes that made the group laugh and they said I was gorgeous and looked like a celeb. They asked which celeb did people say I looked like. I said Amerie. The one casting lady said she could see that the other lady said I looked like Tariji and I disagreed. They asked me a few more questions. And looked at me constantly through the casting while other people were talking. I am really disapointed that I didnt get a call or email or subliminal message. I was just so pleased with how it went and am confused what happened. I thought I would do better in person considering my previous 3 round go. This SUCKS. SO should I really come to the conclusion that I wasnt selected? Or how long should I wait?
Mine in South Beach was dope.....bunch of people showed up, had the group interviews, kicked a bunch of people out, kept me and some other people, had me fill out this crazy big packet that took like an hour to fill out, got a phone call that night for another interview, now I've gotta make a home vid.....I think I have a good shot....the casting director said they've never had anyone like me interview for the show and they need someone like me to spice it up. I hear from them 2nd week of May.
Quote by Damon Furberg from a Syracuse article : Asked Damon: Do you think the quick casting calls are fair and enough to decide if someone is reality show material? "If they can't make an impression in the first four to five minutes, they're not going to be able to carry a whole season," Furberg said.
K so seriously I think I'm never going to a casting call again. Videos are waaayyy better. They actually see only you and not some OVERDRAMATIC gay guys/girls and weird guido wannabes. It's pathetic. And ugghh that b!t#y casting director from Chicago casting was really annoying. Anywho, i'm still curious if the Chicago call had a second round in the bar or not. Anyone know of someone who got to fil out a packet or second interview. I guess I knew if i made it far last season this season wasn't for me, but still it's such a slap in the face :(. Happier note, SUPER EXCITED that Vevmo users are getting far...one of us need to get it!
For everyone who got a call back and did an on-camera interview - did they tell you to send in a video or did they just say they would call you at the beginning of May? This question is particularly for people at casting calls in Birmingham, Jackson, New Orleans.

I went to the chicago casting yesterday and they had me stay back and fill out the long packet. I didn't get a call yesterday or today.. does that mean I'm probably not going to the next round?
FYI, Chicago did have people go upstairs and fill the packet out. They also had some people go for one on one interviews this morning. I know this because someone I went with had both of these things happen to them. They will be called sometime in the 1st or 2nd week of May if they want to move on with the process. Aside from that, I'm pretty sure that they're not allowed to talk about anything else from this point forward, so fingers crossed!!!!
So is this a serious season like what type of questions were in the packet?
So is this a serious season like what type of questions were in the packet?
How do you feel about abortion? Do you feel strongly about any cause? How do you feel about race relations in America? Who are some of your role models? Have you ever used a racial slur? How many times do you drink a week? How do you feel about others of a different sexual orientation? Those are only some of the questions I can remember.....
So my post got deleted of the url? It's not possible. What would she need to be "making a bio" for?
Can I apply through email or tape if I've already gone to a casting call?
Can I apply through email or tape if I've already gone to a casting call?
Probably. There are instructions on BMP's website.
Has anyone heard any rumors as to where RW25 is going to be located? Have any of the producers said anything about if they are looking for a particular type for RW25? I have my audition tomorrow in Charlotte, I have a VIP pass but obviously that really doesn't mean anything... it seems that a TON of people get it! The audition times are 11-6pm tomorrow and I am going at 3 any previous auditoners (is that a word?) have any tips for how long it takes? Sorry if I am asking questions that have already been answered... there are tonnns of pages here

VIP really doesn't mean anything. When I went the VIP line was longer then the walk on by line but went a little faster. I would go earlier if you could just because my cousin was saying he rushed on the packet because it was ending. We waited in line for like an hour and a half and we both had VIP. And then he made it to the next round and I didn't. I waited for like 2 and a half hours for him to fill it out.

"This season we'd love to include a person who is physically challenged, an individual struggling with weight issues, someone who has been affected by a natural disaster, a cast member who is a product of home or alternative schooling, a follower of a non-mainstream religion or belief system, an elite athlete, a recent graduate affected by the economic downturn, someone who is involved with goth, emo, or punk subculture, a member of a pro-abstinence organization, a young widow/widower, and an individual who wants to bring the spotlight of The Real World to a cause, condition, or social issue they care deeply about or are personally affected by."

I used to weigh 270 pounds and I was teased so bad in high school that my student resource officer walked me to class. I am SUPER bubbly... and I have a really fun life but uh... I really do not have any drama nor do I start it. I will watch other peoples haha but that is about it That makes me feel atleast a little better that they are actually looking for real people with something to say.
I should of sent a tape in. I think it take longer to get a call back that way
