Oh really? I am curious as to why you didn't like it.
It wasn't well written. There was too much gore. Lots of decapitation. There isn't enough back story. We really know nothing about any of the characters. I wanted to walk out in the first hour. It was so boring.
Even Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman couldn't save this film. (or a suprising appearance from Jennifer Beals for that matter.)

I had a feeling. Like I said, January is all about making the best trailers as the movies usually suck...
p.s. I know he won the Oscar for Training Day (which was brilliant) but this will always be my favorite Denzel Washington movie:

I actually enjoyed Book of Eli tremendously. Whether or not it was well written is a matter of perspective since it was based on a novel. The gore was not really gore since this was not a horror movie in its depiction of violence. It was realistic for what was going on. There are even a couple of cameos by Malcolm McDowell and Michael Gambon. The thing about the story: it is not about the characters as much as it is about what they all want -- the Book. It is a film with a message about devotion, faith, and hope.
I'd be willing to pay full price for this film.

We obviously have different ideas on gore. I think blood spurting from necks, arms, etc is gore. He slices heads off. A decapitation is a decapitation...
As far as the book being the main point of the story... we don't even find out why this book is so special until the movie is almost over.
This is my simple recap of the movie...
walking.. blood... fighting.. blood... walking...weirdness.... blood... book... the end.
Yes the blood spurting happens but it is not gratuitous nor do they linger on the spurting. They show what happens when certain body parts are injured certainly but they never make it about the violence. Gary Oldman's character is certainly the devil in disguise.

It's obviously not about the violence.. but it's violent and gross none the less. They fight through the entire movie. Fight and walk.. fight and walk. The few scenes of decent dialogue weren't enough to keep me interested.
I love the cast. The story.. not so much.
However.. I agree with you on one point. Gary Oldman's character was the devil in diguise. That's my whole problem with this movie. There was so much potential with these characters and it was all wasted. I would have loved to learn more about Claudia and Solara... They could have done more with Redridge and Solara... A flashback of Eli hearing these voices... or Carnegie's youth... But no. They walked... and walked... and walked.
Spidey 4 - Not surprised. Franchise needed a good kick in the *** and it also needed to ditch Tobey and Kirsten to do so. Sam Raimi - bummer man.
I'm looking forward to Sex and the City 2 and Iron Man 2. Will probably see both in the theater. Oh, Toy Story 3 as well.
Oh, and isn't it cool that Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, and Helena Bonham Carter are making the same movie for the 5th time again? I'm reeeeally looking forward to it.
Thanks for the review I definately want to see that movie but I was wondering does Clark Duke have as big a part in the movie as seen in the ads? If so I may have to rethink going to see the movie.

He's a main character. You don't like him?
I just saw Hot Tub Time Machine. It was very much worth the $7.00 admission. Infact, I'll probably see it again.
I heart John Cusack.
Oh I'll be seeing this soon. Real soon!
Ouch. I found him to be awful in Sex Drive and Greek so I guess then I'll skip.
I haven't seen either of those. I didn't even know who he was. You'll regret skipping this movie. It's hilarious.

I love John Cusack too! This movie looks hilarious!

He was a sidekick with Micheal Cera and did some online movies. Greek is a t.v. show that he has been on for a few years and I find him really bad at acting.
Hot tub time machine is exactly what you think: just a fun time ... for those of us who grew up in the 80s, it was nostalgic even ... it was awesome to see Christian get in some good screen time. Did you recognize the guy who won the bet from the first Karate Kid? I did, immediately. The way his eyes and nose came together on his face. I was cracking up over the whole Russkie bit too.
I recognized Billy Zabka right away. I met him in 2007 when he came to town to do an interview with a The Harvest Show. My friend's family owns the network.
He was very nice and sooo much fun. I'll try to remember to post some pictures when I'm at my computer later.

Cool what network? I never heard of The Harvest Show before.
WHME. It's a local Indiana channel. My friend Angela's family owns the network. My friend Susie does the graphic design for the website, and my BFF and former roommate Mindy used to be the make up artist. :)

Looks awesome!
I saw this preview today and for some reason thought it was hilarious. Don't know if I'll actually go see it, but still.
