The Hurt Locker? A reason? Who cares. Awards don't necessarily mean it was good. Just like Nielsen ratings.
An Oscar for Best Picture usually does.
Hurt Locker also won several critics awards both here and abroad. The only issue it truly had was that it was never widely released. I saw twice in the theatre and it was a packed house both times. It is a much better film.
Only if the Academy wasn't known for being biased.
Are you kidding me? Let's be serious. When was the last time a bad movie won Best Picture?
It is a matter of opinion, of course...but most of the people that vote for the winner generally know what the **** they're talking about.
Only if the Academy wasn't known for being biased.
They have been in the past true enough ... However, Avatar only won 3 awards, all technical, out of the 12 it was up for. But Hurt Locker won the Director's Guild, Producer's Guild, the Writer's Guild, and Editing awards. These are determined by their respective Guilds in Hollywood. In addition, all the film festivals that Hurt Locker went to it won including: Toronto, London, and the big one: Cannes.
It was hailed as a stunning upset by many people but it happened and now Avatar will have to live with that fact. Some call it akin to win Shakespeare in Love beat out Saving Private Ryan for Best Picture.
Avatar is a very pretty film but it is still Pocahontas redone. Saw it once and don't need to see it again. Hurt Locker won the Best Oscar over it for a reason.
It cracks me up when Avatar is compared to Pocahontas, and I have seen the picture of the plot to Pocahontas, with words replaced to better fit Avatar. I laugh because aren't most Disney movies that way? They start out telling the story of the main character, then something goes wrong, and the bad guy is introduced, good vs. evil, and then the happy ending? Now that I think about it, most movies do include a beginning, middle, and end, while focusing on the plot. ;)
There's your answer Molds. Saving Private Ryan should've one over something like Shakespeare in Love. Or as Brenda Meeks calls it, "Shake-a-speare" in Love.

The irony here is that the rules about "drawing attention to your film" were changed after that because the Weinstein brothers campaigned the hell out of Hollywood for the win. That's why one of the producers got in serious trouble when he started emailing people telling them to vote Hurt Locker.
For the record, pretty graphics do not solely make a film. Avatar is still a very pretty **** done up in neon.
I realized while watching and experiencing it that it was a lackluster story hidden behind pretty graphics. Same reason I avoided Transformers 2. I was willing to give Avatar the chance but it let me down and the hype was unwarranted.

I went and saw it a first time without my Husband, and was blown away. I thought it was such a great movie, that a week later I went a second time with my Husband. Sadly the second time I saw the movie, I was not nearly as interested in it. It is a visually stunning movie, but other than that I was not captivated by the storyline to say the least.
I give Cameron all the credit in the world for the technology he used. I really do.
Irony: Using state of the art technology to tell a story about the dangers of technology.

Very well put!
Am I in the minority for not liking the story of Avatar? The special effects were amazing, but the story itself was blah or as some of you vevmo-ers would say not "zomg" haha.
I want to see inception and oddly enough Macgruber.
Macgruber I want to see because I loved the skit on SNL. The show Maguyver would also make a good movie. That they landed Ryan Philippe for the movie showed me it may be good.
I could care less for anything Avatar-related but it keeps my son entertained for hours when we need to get housework done, so it gets an A+ in my book.

I wish there was a "like" button on here like facebook! I honestly don't know why it was up for an award. Was it based on the "love" story that has been used and re-used. I can see why people are relating the movie to Pocohantas. I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it either.
I don't really watch SNL, but I like Ryan Phillipe from Cruel Intentions, Igby Goes Down and I know What You Did Last Summer. And Jimmy Fallon has been praising the movie Magruber, about how raunchy, funny and action packed it is. I also like Kristen Wigg a lot. Plus the previews and clips i've seen look funny.
Never saw the skits, don't really care for Wiig...Phillippe has not really worked in the past year or so either which is probably a good reason why he is doing the film.

Seriously. I thought we were finished. It was THE FINAL Destination. They should have named it.. The Next To Final Destination.
I saw Prince of Persia on sat night and really enjoyed it. I didn't think I would have liked it as much as I did.
I also saw Robin Hood which was kind of boring and Iron Man II which was fun and action pack like expected.
A friend of mine sent me this link, because she knows I'm a big Joseph Gordon-Levitt fan. I about pissed my pants.

He somewhat looks like Heath Ledger, I use to get them confused all the time.

Depending on the angle of the picture, I suppose. I hadn't really noticed a strong resemeblence before.
