The Real World: Back to New Orleans
The Real World Returns to New Orleans. It looks like The Real World could very well be heading back to New Orleans for a post Katrina encore season. (The original Real World: New Orleans was the ninth season. It first aired on MTV in 2000, with the cast living in a remodeled Civil War-era mansion, called The Belfort, in the Garden District, New Orleans.) After a debate earlier today in the casting thread concerning the location of the next Real World, I decided to visit a few of my favorite recruiting websites for production personal. Five minutes later I found an interesting listing:
job title: Production Assistant job start: December 2 job end: May 12 total weeks: 23 show name: network: company: Anonymous location: New Orleans job description: Production Company shooting a documentary style show in New Orleans. Looking for experienced Production Assistants. Must have a valid drivers license and insurance. Must know New Orleans and surrounding areas. We need production assistants with office experience AND production assistants to work with our crews in the field. Please only apply if you live in New Orleans.
The really interesting part, is the text is practically identical to the listing BMP used for The Real World Washington, DC. Even more interesting is that if you go to the original post in the DC thread where I found that specific listing way back when, clicking on the link will bring you to the new listing.

So, I dumped some of that text into google (swapping out DC for NOLA) and bam, more job listings for a documentary style show in New Orleans from a different site... Production Assistant - Confidential - New Orleans*LA - EntertainmentCareers.Net Production Coordinator - Confidential - New Orleans*LA - EntertainmentCareers.Net

While this is not conclusive proof of anything, I think it warrants discussion and further investigation. BMP is not known for putting together elaborate subterfuge and this looks like a smoking gun... Edit: Another one found by 43000 - Production Assistants and Assistant Camera
A major cable television project currently looking for Production Assistants (field and office) and Assistant Camera ready to work from 12/14 to the end of May. Looks like we helped push them to announce earlier than planned. Hopefully for the next, next Real World they don't change their online job listing strategies...

Wow..this should be interesting.
as a New Orleans native, I am very excited for this if it does take place. I love this city.
Hmmm, I have a friend that lives in NOLA and am looking into going there for AmeriCorps in the spring so I'll have her do a little investigating and see what she can find out!
There is definitely not a shortage of things to do in New Orleans, especially come Mardi Gras time... My liver hurts just thinking about it.
I LOVE NEW ORLEANS!!! I would have zero problems with this.
I like it!
Well they better cast a AMAZING cast because season 9 was really good in my opion.Almost 5 months of filming wow old RW style and I had my heart on Atlanta or Back to Miami
New Orleans is one of my favorite cities, so I'm all for the show going back there. I just hope we get a quality cast to do the city and orginial season justice.
So are we safe to say that NO is setting up to be a party season?
There's bound to be plenty of partying but hopefully like the original season it will have a quality and developed cast.
This sounds interesting.. I think this is a good idea :)
I am totally okay with them going back to New Orleans, the original New Orleans season was one of my favorites so it would be interesting to see how it plays out this time around.

Great find! Very interesting. It could very well be another "party" season like Cancun, but I doubt it. A big part of the season could possibly be post-Katrina related stuff. So I can see why they might go back to a city like New Orleans. I loved the New Orleans season, definitely a Real World classic... If they do another season in New Orleans i can't compare... you can't top Melissa, Julie the Mormon and "Come on be my Baby Tonight".
I think that we can definately look forward to having at least one character who has had some aspect of their life affected by Katrina.
Good find 43000. Definitely the same production. New Orleans is not exactly a hoping reality show destination these days... Next on the agenda: Real estate. We need to start looking through real estate news and see if anything jumps out.
The orginal new orleans was one of my favorite seasons -- lots of fun. The house they used last time in New Orleans was definitely one of the best houses -- when I visited the area in March of 2008, the locals told me that house was not doing well post-hurricans. I doubt they'll return to the same house but it was amazing. On the flip side -- I got mistaken for a prostitute while I was in that city. lol. I had a great time despite.
Wow I didn't expect they would go back to NO. It should be interesting since it is the 10th anniversary of the original NO season. Looks like I'll have to do some catching up watching the original.

If anyone lives in Nola and has a chance to cruise by and check it out, that would be great - although from the linked article it sounds like the house has new owners and it is doubtful the show would return to the same residence. Also, we need someone to head down to the French Quarter and see if anything "unusual" is going on (i.e. camera cranes, unusually large contracting crews, movers carrying in gaudy furniture...) Time to start hitting the pavement and see if we can drum up a few concrete leads, although the job listings have been a sure thing in the past.
if they film during Mardi Gras then I am going to assume that they will choose a house in the Garden District/Uptown again so that the cast can be in walkable distance to the parade routes. I feel like it would be difficult for BMP to find a space large enough to house the 8 people and the camera crew in the French Quarter. They could also look at the Warehouse District and convert one of those abandoned warehouses. I have some errands to run Uptown so I could drive down St. Charles and see if there is any action going on.

They tend to save warehouses as a last resort like for Brooklyn or for areas that do not have distict unique architectural elements. I expect they will select something very New Orleans. They should be able to get a great deal on a place given the numerous hits New Orleans real estate market has taken over the past 4 years.
New orleans is so much different since Katrina. I hope they cover those differences throughout the season as well I hope if this is the season that they have a job that allows them to rebuild the city such as working for save NOLA or another non profit because they still are rebuilding their.
Since NO is such a poor city I'd like to see them do something like they did on Chicago and work with kids who don't have role models or are in a bad situation.
Since NO is such a poor city I'd like to see them do something like they did on Chicago and work with kids who don't have role models or are in a bad situation.
Without a doubt I imagine they will be doing something they involves rebuilding a community. We know the BMP is going to provide them with a job as there was nothing in the application packet asking which jobs they would like to pursue while filming. We also know they they said they were looking for people "looking to grow or in a life transition." So I would imagine they are going to have someone who grows as much as Julie did in the 1st New Orleans. I'm very happy with this choice -- I can actually respect this decision and hope that BMP does the social issues justice.

I just hope that the cast does not slaughter the season as New Orleans is one of my favorite seasons to date. And a prostitute, eh? Interesting :D
I hope that Real World with this announcement will show old footage of RW 9 as a refresher unless they plan to attack this season as an awareness to the ongoings in Louisana since the Huricane.
RW9 is one of my favorite seasons. Glad to hear they're returning for the next season even though I was really hoping for a Canadian location.
Ehhhh, I was hoping for a new city but hey real fans don't care where they go next right?
New Orleans, yay! I hope that this season will be amazing!
