I'll happily stand in line to be disappointed in him in the Brooklyn house, but I'm not ready at all to cast him to the lions. As I've mentioned before, a couple of MTV veterans have had nothing but good things to say about him, and I feel compelled to keep their comments in mind. We all have our personal demons; perhaps I've just seen JD's as more disappointing given my high hopes for something more uplifting this season.

Well he never to this day made amends with any of the girls including Sarah. I just get negative/bad vibes from him.

I agree with you. I'm not trying to make him seem like the good guy, because from what I've seen and read here he's deffinetly not my favorite cast member either. I'm just saying that I don't think that he was planning to pick fights with people and make enimies the whole time he was out there. Since it looks like he and the guys were getting along at the time, maybe he thought that was a way to fit in with them (either way, that doesn't make it right and he shouldn't have done it).

To an extent I think that might have been part of the reason. However, you don't burn bridges with one group in order to be cool with the other.
I noticed that too, he's the only one who hasn't really gone out and done anything yet. I'm not really sure, did he even say what he wanted to do while he was out in Brooklyn in the first episode? I don't really remember anything.
JD already has a successful career - I'm sure that was nothing but a vacation for him.
Maybe he did the Real World to compete on the challenges. I think it makes some sense that he would want some money in his pockets. Maybe he would use it to start his own buisness related to swimming or something else related to his job. I dont know, its just a thought. But it is also possible that he just went there on vacation as stated above.
Hello Katelynn!
Just so you know there is another transperson on the boards. One of you ftm brothers representing.
Actually, I just joined four seconds ago. I didn't know about vevmo until someone on the televisionwithoutpity boards linked to this discussion. And am I glad they did. I figured that the show was heavily edited....but I had no idea how edited.
I want to thank you Katelynn (and also scott when he posted) for letting us know a bit more about how it worked. The whole thing doesn't actually seem all that fun of an experience...and I don't mean because of the roommates, but because of the fines and the curfews and very small stipend and all of that.
Wow. Thanks for illuminating and thanks for putting yourself out there. You gave up your privacy for transyouth, and that is admirable!

He said he wanted to be a role model and that's why he's on the show; that he did it for selfless reasons instead of selfish reasons (his thoughts as stated in the AfterElton interview - see the JD thread). I have obviously disagreed with things JD has said and done on the show (and in interviews), and I have definitely done my share of criticizing him here (civilly, I think/hope). But just from what I've seen so far, from a viewer's perspective, I don't think he's really an evil person. I don't even think he's the worst person I've seen on the show, even in the last several seasons. I see a vunerability there that makes me feel a little bad for him sometimes (i.e. how he felt the rat was kind of like his best friend, him wanting a family, etc). I think he is affected a little by his childhood experiences and needs to work on the breaking/throwing stuff. I also feel that he needs to work on his social interactions with people. I don't think he really gets why people are upset with him all that much and that it would take him to really understand in order to apologize. I think these are things he can easily work on and improve, and I hope he learns from watching the show and hearing what his roommates have felt about him. A lot of cast members can learn a lot about themselves from doing the show.
Welcome Trooper! :) I lurk at the TWoP forums, and I have read your posts in the RW thread there. You posts were very informative and well thought out and helped me to further understand the perspective of a transgendered person (and Katelynn has helped as well, of course).

Speaking of TWOP, a member there who reads vevmo as a guest says that I hate JD. I don't hate him, but he does disappoint me with regularity. There is a big difference. I agree with your analysis of him, while holding out the possibility that he is more like the JD character in real life than many of us would ever want him to be.
Welcome, Trooper. I, too, appreciate what you have shared at TWOP and hope that you will add your experience here as you find it appropriate.
What upsets me is that he seems he wants a family, yet does nothing to hold up one with certain people. However, on top of the negative stuff he has done to the girls, he continues to say negative things about them. In the afteralton interview, some of the stuff he brought up about Kate and Devyn weren't relevant to the questions asked about them. Mind you, they weren't nice responses about them either. In a family you have to listen, compromise at times, and try to understand your own faults before you can expect others to do the same. If you continually absolve yourself from any responsibility or acknowledgment of your wrongs, how are you going to make things right when you don't even understand and or acknowledge your own wrong doings?
I'm happy to be here, and thanks for the welcome! I'm happy to share the space with everyone!
I have to say that at this moment in the season the thing that is creeping me out the most is how vicious the guys are towards Devyn. Maybe Devyn does stuff off camera...but they all sort of fixate on her and talk such smack...and there are a lot of low blows. She seems to handle it all well...but she also seems to hold a lot in and put up a brave face.
But regarding JD, I don't think he's evil...that's a pretty heavy word. But...from what we've seen, at least, he wants people to like him on one side of his face, then on the other he acts...well, he breaks tables, he breaks confidences and lies about it, he goes off on strangers in convenience stores, he instigates mean pranks for what seems like revengeful motives, he insults people...and he sometimes he just doesn't seem to be aware that he's being really mean. Yeah, he introduces Baya to a dance teacher...and he tries to help out...but when it comes to respecting other people...yeah.
I don't quite know what to do with this season at the moment. We'll see what happens with the next episode...but I'm concerned that it is going to be the guys stealing Katelynn's stints...which....boggles the mind.
Yeah, the way the guys talk about Devyn has been very bothersome to me as well. Really nasty and immature. I can understand how they can have some issues with her, but I can't see how those issues they do have with her warrants the kind of smack talk and insults the guys spew about her. I like the way she keeps her cool when they confront her. Even JD yanking the phone from her didn't seem to make her too angry, and I think she would have had a right to be. I just don't understand how JD thinks she is the negative stereotype of a black woman.
Next episode looks quite awkward with the Chet and Katelynn situation. I feel bad for her having to go through that again after going through it with Ryan. I am shocked Ryan didn't tell Chet all the details about her surgery that he learned from talking to Katelynn - or maybe he did tell him, but Chet wanted to question her for himself. I agree, we'll have to wait to see what happens to get a clearer idea of what's going on.
And I'd love to see the girls talk to Chet and Ryan about the issues they have with them. I also don't think they are bad people, but they are constantly shown cutting the girls down, especially in the dailies.

All I can say about this is that if the road to **** is paved with good intentions, JD's intentions are only the best.
JD honestly does have some amazing qualities to him as a person, but as someone how has had mutual friends with JD for years there is a bit of a common consensus that while he means well, he fails to understand the scope of his actions. He can have a heart of gold at times but then will later use that as leverage against someone.
Everyone has their issues to work on in life, and that, for now, appears to be his.
In the grand scheme of things JD isn't a bad person by any means, just within the confine and scope of our time out in Brooklyn he became the epicenter for so much distrust and hurt feelings. While I don't believe he should be crucified or vilified for promoting his own agenda on the show, in contrast to the other house mates it does seem like he had the most toxic personality.
While I'm not on good terms with JD personally I still think that someone who is in the know should shed some light. I've known JD since before filming - my boyfriend's, Mike's (shown in episode 1), sister worked with JD at Miami Seaquarium. JD used to bartend at a club I danced at for years and we have quite a few friends who run in the same circles.
With JD, much like with me, you either seem to love him or hate him.

Hey there tropper! One thing you should know is that there is never "off camera" time on TRW, just camera time that BMP doesn't feel is relevant to the story-arcs.

It's impressive that you were able to dilate and inject your hormones regularly with all the cameras and the jokers in the house.

This might be off topic but, is it me or is JD's eyes red?
This might be off topic but, is it me or is JD's eyes red?
Oh, I didn't notice that! It looks like they are red to me. Maybe it is from staring at the computer too long, but his eyes are starting to give that magic eye effect and kind of pop out of the picture! Creepy.
Uh, guys...give Bacchus a little more credit. ;)
I do! I swear it is just me staring at the picture and moving in and out trying to focus on the eyes that are giving it that weird effect.
I have been working on my comp all day doing a 3-D model in Rhino, so who knows what my eyes are really seeing! Plus, I was crying earlier because of course I had to watch My Girl on TV and it gets me every time with Thomas J.'s death. Dang bees...
Anyways, back to the Real World, haha

From the few Dailies clips I've recently seen, it doesn't look like she got to do that without Chet causing problems.

Lol dont get me started about that movie - I didn't know what was sad about it - stupid kid should have known not to play with bee hives.
I think the red eyes was quite becoming on him - made him even more handsome!
Anyways back to Brooklyn - does the aftershows on the website feature Mark Long as well? I haven't had a chance to check them out.

There have been three After Show tappings in Van Nuys. All are hosted by Mark.
Ok, a few things to point out that I'm surprised no one has as of yet...
As someone in a similar position as Sarah (a trauma survivor), I must say I was impressed at her reaction to JD's table smashing and such. Personally, I would have expected anger or tears, but she was strong enough to hold it together. A LOT of survivors have issues with men in some way or another- I find what they have shown of Sarah to be a lot more progressed than many women I know who have survived and went through decades of counseling. Men can be extremely scary- not just the physical, smashing a table side, but if your trust has been betrayed by a man- let alone someone as close as a father- then it takes a lot to forgive a man. Seeing it from this point of view, I see Sarah as writing JD off due to his antics- and I agree with her. It's a way to protect yourself and heal at the same time.
From what I have read, it seems that Ryan does have some animosity toward her, but she has at the least 'played nice' when it comes to him. So I have to once again give her some credit for that.
Katelynn, thank you for your point of view. It reinforces my gut feelings on things. Honestly, if I was even in the house and JD had broken that table, let alone screamed in my face after doing it (add to that Ryan screaming as well), I would have been intimidated. I was surprised that the two other guys (Scott and Chet) did not see that Ryan and JD were a bit out of line. I was expected one or both to get up and tell them to calm down. Perhaps they did and BMP just didn't show it.
I think rwny4ever was getting AfterWorld (the clips with the roommates talking about the latest episode) confused with the after shows. No, Mark's not in AfterWorld.
