Welcome to vevmo. It's nice to have another person join us who qualifies as "Old School" in remembering the roots of the show.
Thanks V1man. Yep, haven't missed one episode. My favorite season would have to be San Fran. However, I did enjoy the newer seasons almost as much.

My favorite will always be RW: Los Angeles, for personal reasons.
Obviously as my name suggests, the first season is my favorite, so I was glad they were going back there in a way. Back 2 NY was a good season too. I'm glad that this season is turning about to be somewhat similar to the original - with real issues and the lack of the sleezy behavior that has been so prevalent since Las Vegas. The whole scene with Baya at the dance studio really brought back memories of Julie from the first season.
I must say that I do not agree that JD is a bad guy - he was drunk and upset which is not a good combination. And come on - does it not annoy you to some extent to encounter someone who does not speak English - I've had enough Chinese instructors in college to know that it is very annoying - and if you're already upset and have been drinking that is enough to make you explode. I think he's a great guy - and I'm sure time will prove that.
IMO, Chet should not have been cast. We've seen the whole 'Mormon fish-out-of-water' thing with Julie in New Orleans and as annoying as she was, he is worse. Honestly I don't know that I could live in a house with someone like him - I just have no patience lol
Overall though this is a great cast and I look forward to the rest of the season
BTW - now I'm psyched for the Duel 2 now that Mark is on there! Good aftershow for the first episode.

I think Ryan is the one who shouldn't have been cast. Granted, only two episodes have aired but he just seems too narrow-minded to be open to change so far.
Hopefully future episodes will change my mind.
I think Chet is a good casting choice. Yes, I absolutely agree that he is a Mormon fish out of water like Julie was, but I think he brings more to the show than that. I think he may be more of a dynamic person on-screen than Julie was, actually. He is really intriguing and kind of hard to figure out, beyond being a Mormon. I do agree that he can be obnoxious and annoying (I agree that Julie was as well, but moreso on the challenges based on what I've seen). You probably would want him to leave you alone sometimes. But he is entertaining TV to me so far. Also he brings a funny element to the show.
i luv how this show is going finaly no more fake people. Back to the roots. btw when will the ratings for ep 2 be out? just curious :]
The weekly cable ratings are out Tuesday PM, but unless you cough up thousands of dollars to be a subscriber, you probably won't see them until Wed. The nets do get the full range of numbers across all the demographics, but the public generally only sees the top 10 cable shows by advertising categories.

I'm with ya! San Fran is definitely in my Top 2 or 3, if not my favorite hands down. Ahh, its so hard to pick a fave.
I finally saw the rest of the episode, I thought it was good. We still haven't seen much of Scott or Devyn yet but it looks like we're going too see more of them next week.
I didn't really think JD going off about immigrants was a big deal because he was drunk and I don't think he would've said anything like that if he wasn't. I did like how Chet confronted him about it, even though he was going a little overboard and getting in JD's face while everyone else was just trying to get him to go to sleep.

You know what they say...drunken statements are sober thoughts!
I happen to agree 100% with JD on the not speaking english issue. My stance is that I would never dream of immigrating to another country without having studied the language or researching the country that I would be immigrating to first. I wish there were more details given about the store itself as far as whether it was a mom and dad business or if it was a franchise store. If I had more information, I would go to JD's myspace and/or facebook and tell him what I think he should've done.
I work in the hotel industry and had a guest take a cab to the hotel because the hotel's airport shuttle was unavoidably detained. I told the guest to tell the cab driver to come inside to get paid. Well the guest comes back a few minutes later and says the guy won't come in. I got pissed and went to the door and yelled to the driver that if wants his money to come inside and get it. The driver was some foreign guy! I couldn't understand a word he was saying! The guest was looking helplessly at me. Then I busted out with, "it sounds like I need to call immigration...." Well, i'm sure that's one word every foreigner understands that word because he just up and left after that.
Another thing absolutely pissed me off to no end was having asians overseeing chemistry lab sections at the college I went to. Those asians were very difficult to understand. They should have all finished taking English as a Second Language and passed an extremely difficult proficiency test before being allowed to be a lab TA.
Seriously... No wonder we had a 9-11! This country is the EASIEST country in the world to get into! I've researched immigrating to other countries because I haven't been too happy with America for the last 8 years and let me tell everyone something: Every country I've researched has very strict immigration standards. Most of them would only grant work visas to people who had college degrees or who worked in professions that were in demand in those countries.
End rant.
Thoughts:
Chet totally stole JDs condom, IMO. I thought the excuse that it was really his condom was so unbelievable. But then again I know MTV likes to splice things together so it looks like they happened around the same time.
Speaking of, did you notice that JD was wearing a gray shirt when talking to the cop on the phone, then a yellow sweatshirt when he went to the bar, then a white shirt with red sleeves when he came back drunk? He was later seen wearing a black sweatshirt when arguing with Chet but I'm pretty sure (judging by the conversation) that he threw it on after the red shirt. All the other scenes were spliced together though.
I thought Ryan overeacted to the kiss. We get it dude...you're straight! You're still a 10 in my book though.
Looks like Ryan and Baya flirt a little bit in the next episode. ahhhhh!!!
At least we finally get to see SCOTT though. Geeze!
I read an interview years ago with Neil from the London cast. He said that the producers asked him not to keep changing his hair color because of the way editing was done. You would've seen him with green hair in one scene, pink in the next one, and orange in another one.

I think people should be more tolerant.
I just wanted to throw my two cents in on the conversation about JD's statements. He's already made it public knowledge that his has a poor relationship with his dad who is also an immigrant. It is very possible that somehow in his mind he connects immigrants with his negative feelings towards his dad. It's easier for him to rant about immigrants- something not directly related to him, than it is for him to get angry about what happened to him. I have worked with many adults who were victims of child abuse and that is not all that uncommon.
Just a thought, hope that makes sense to someone other than me.

That definitely makes sense, most of the time people associate things with their childhood (e.g. I can't trust men/women because my dad/brother/mom/sister lied to me all the time, etc). He definitely has feelings behind it and that might be his way of indirectly venting about it.
I find it pathetic that you guys are all protecting the fact that JD made some racist comments about immigrants. If the comments were about something like whites, gays, or even blacks you guys would all disagree. Pretty messed up that you guys are like "they dont speak english, they shouldnt be here." I have very close immigrants friends who DON'T speak english perfectly and i don't mind. And i understand that they came here persuing a dream for a better life. Being drunk doesnt excuse no one for saying stuff like that, on my book.

I never said I was protecting him. I think it's very wrong what he said. At the same time, instead of just wondering "What the hell is wrong with this guy?", I look at it from a "Why is he so charged up about this?" After hearing he didn't have a good relationship with his dad, it makes more sense why. However, just because it makes sense doesn't make it ok.

Please be more specific....

I'm not going to name names but its pretty obvious read the last few comments, i just think its messed up and sorry if i offended anyone who thought they are ones.
I'm also someone who was disappointed in JD's big rant about immigrants. I just do not like how he acted. I know he was drunk, and I also connected the immigrant thing to him being upset at his immigrant parents. But I just thought he was being very rude. I'm not condemning him as a hopelessly bad guy, but I disagreed with the way he acted. Yes, it can be frustrating when you are communicating with someone and they don't understand you. That can happen with two people speaking the same language even! But for him to talk about it the way he did just left a bad impression on me. He was making a big display of himself to his roommates, and from his account it also sounded like he said something rude to the worker (it sounded like he said something like there goes your job). Maybe he did think it was funny, but the roommates didn't seem to think so.
It sounded like he made a reference to the worker speaking Spanish (he said the word "numero" in his impression of the person), which, surprise, JD speaks Spanish, as told by Chet, at least. But he also said something about speaking three different languages to the person, so I don't know if the person was trying to speak Spanish to JD because he's Latino, yet they didn't know Spanish well. Another thing to consider is JD was drunk, so he himself possibly may not have been making much sense to the worker.
Another thing is I watched the two dailies that were an extended version of the argument JD and Chet got into, and Chet said he's seen how JD deals with service workers, and he dislikes it. That to me seems like JD has acted rude towards or about service workers/immigrants more than once, which is even worse, IMO. He could have possibly been sober in other interactions with service workers and not have been very pleasant. I'm not saying that he for sure has had bad sober interactions with them, but just the fact that he may have had more than one bad interaction with a worker doesn't sound very good to me.
Also, my dad is an immigrant, and I haven't had a great relationship with him. Definitely haven't had a horrible experience with him like JD has had with his father (and mother), but we go years without speaking to or seeing each other. Regardless of that, I still view the immigrant thing as a separate thing from my father. Yes, I do think when you move to another country you should try to learn the language for optimal success in getting through life in the new country. However, some people don't pick it up so easy. Some people are desperate to escape the dire situation in their home country and need to escape. Either way, that aside, I just thought how he was going on and on about it was so rude.
I just think these people are trying their best to communicate and it's best to at least try and be a little more patient. I do think sometimes employers shouldn't put people who don't communicate well in certain jobs (especially customer service), but that's on the employer and not the worker.

I totally agree with you and Chet on the dailies. JD doesn't give me a good first impression, from the beginning i had a little thing that just didn't make me like him.
ooooooooooooooo....... heated conversatin ... I LOVE IT lol:gamer4:
a little passionate maybe but not heated, or at least not for long. ;)
We don't salivate at the prospect of a little discord here at Vevmo. Members are free to express their opinions... even the differing ones. Just as long as the golden rule of respect is given.
My thoughts on JD is that he was wrong to say those things -- drunk or sober, angry or not. Is he a 'bad' guy? I don't know him to judge that. Nor can I psycho-analyze why he might have said those things. I just know that he did say them.
Not a day goes by that I don't complain about native born Americans who can't write a simple declarative sentence to save their *****. We are practically an illiterate society on the way to third world status. I probably spend about 4 hours each week throughout vevmo repairing grammar and syntax in addition to applying the standard rules of capitalization and punctuation.
As for JD, I didn't get the "bad guy" vibe when I met him, so I don't automatically accept the edit we saw of him in Ep. 2. We simply have two juxtaposed character reveals in two separate episodes. It might be wise to wait a week or two to see more of him before one locks in an opinion. I think it is fair to identify what may be troubling from JD in Ep 2, but I don't see the point in sending him to the **** pile just yet. Hell, let's fry a BMP editor first.
As for the rest of you.... Play Nice! I'm heavily medicated tonight and my finger is dangerously close to the delete button.
