Posted By Bacchus: Ratings were horrid. Odds are better that we see Fresh Meat 2 at some point in the future to bring new folks into the RW/RR family.
That's disappointing to hear. I wonder why the ratings were so bad? I liked the show real well, it sort of reminded me of a challenge (with the whole pit thing). It kept me at the edge of my seat constantly......... Am I the only one who liked it? lol.

nah. I liked it too. VR and Extreme Road Rules are to of my favorite seasons. Next to Campus Crawl of course.
I loved to hate VR.

Just one of those things that may have been hard to keep fresh, especially once the Challenges started. I'm sure if V1Man is around maybe he can offer us some insight. Then again, we may have gone over all of this before, I just don't remember.
bacchus why did the topic change from road rules returning to the new challenge? are you trying to drop hints:shifty:
I was just answering Pheonix's question.
Cost of Production vs. Ratings or Revenue = Death by Cancellation
Very Nice Metaphor, lol. I just want you to know mine was in response to OPD's question and not a reflection on the franchise itself. :D

Honestly, Road Rules was very entertaining as well and a lot of famous Challengers have come from Road Rules (ex. Kendall, Veronica, Katie, Abram, etc). They were the rejects of the Real World but this show was so entertaining you couldn't help to not watch it. Who doesn't want to see a physical version of the Real World? It was interesting and XTreme was one of my favorite seasons, but I understand that Viewers Revenge was utterly terrible and that it probably sealed the franchise's fate.
Road Rules started going downhill with Semester at Sea and The Maximum Velocity Tour... The Quest was a slight improvement, but it introduced the "vote off" thing and that... was not great.
I think that they could have done the most recent one and received reasonable ratings if they stuck to the formula. The problem was that they re-wrote it. Travel Road Rules has always been about the journey. Driving around the burbs outside of LA is not what I consider "hitting the road." Cast They went with an "All-Star" cast that was expectedly there for a paycheck. Veronica even sat out during the middle of the show to do other things and only came back for a shot at the final reward. Who wants to sit on the RV for a month when you can come right in at the end and scoop the cash away? The whole point of Road Rules is to throw dissimilar people together and watch them bond along the way. Voting The voting was an absolute fiasco. The only reason MTV took this route was to try an emulate other user interactive shows - but it was wrong for the format (not to mention they changed the rules by the second show.) I don't want to see people voted off, don't you get it MTV? The most entertaining people are always the ones everyone wants to get rid of! Oh, and was it a surprise that the vets would bond together for the money and shut out the new cast? No. Timeslot They just threw it out to die right of the gate without a valid lead-in. Only after devastating ratings did they move it to after The Real World Denver, but by that point the show was doomed. Also, whose genius idea was it to run "sneak peaks" in the middle of the day and sap away probably 15-20% of the ratings for the primary airing? They failed on so many levels, it is no wonder this show is not going to return.

The rest of the time, most were relegated to cheap hotel rooms (Unless my memory is faulty, I think Adam Larson was actually at home rather than stuck in a hotel/motel somewhere).
What a wash!
Yes, the cast that was from LA went home and those that were from away stayed in hotels. It was about 3 1/2 days (Wednesday-Saturday) on and then the rest of the week off. The pit crew was flown in when they were needed. Talk about ripping the soul out of the show...

SAS and MV sucked....and The Quest's new rules was the icing on this shitty shitty cake. (wish i had a better metaphor for this, but its late and im tired)
Yes, the cast that was from LA went home and those that were from away stayed in hotels. Exactly those contracts really forbid you from giving out details about seasons, challenges before they come out. There was a certain someone on Road Rules VR that learned that the hard way.
With a little assistance from Bacchus ;)
Listen here Missy! I got blamed for that, but I didn't sink Leech's ship. It was probably one of the hundreds of people he told outcomes to on Myspace each week that sold him out. I was personally asked by Adam, Susie et all to tell MTV what I knew (in a semi desperate fashion) - but I refused and would not return their calls. It would be stupid for me to sell out a source as there would be nothing to gain from that - only the loss of inside information. I even removed all the spoilers when asked by David (as he knew MTV was closing in.) My best guess is that someone forwarded a message on myspace with spoilers from David to MTV on request, and have my suspicions as to who it was (think stalker fan boy extraordinaire) The truth is, much of the cast was leaking, not just David. ...anyways, enough of that fun stuff. ;)
Bacchus... have you met most of the real world/road rules cast members? Who was your favorite? Least Favorite?
Bacchus... have you met most of the real world/road rules cast members? Who was your favorite? Least Favorite?
I don't get to meet anyone since I am just an ethereal being from Mt. Olympus.:wink2:

Or just Adam and Susie? or did I completely misinterpret what you said? well it doesn't matter much now anyways, but I thought that was interesting.

I think Adam thought it would make for a clearer path to the money, and Tori was mad at him for passing rumors around about her and Dan/Derek.

FYI, Susie, Kina, Adam and Tori all had access to somewhat reliable and occasionally sage advisors of their own.
FYI, Susie, Kina, Adam and Tori all had access to somewhat reliable and occasionally sage advisors of their own.
Definitely "sage advice" being they are all now "retired" which makes my viewing experience that much more pleasurable! Actually, Adam grew on me toward the end of VR, and I have not heard his official swan song as of yet. :D
I've not been expecting a farewell from him
The thing is, with a great horse, it may still want to run - but its owners might put it out to pasture anyways. ;) That being said, last time I talked to him (which was a long time ago) he said his 5 years were up (of trying to make it in Hollywood) and he was considering putting his hospitality degree to good use....
I thought he'd be done with the news of who's on the new challenge (cough cough). I'd love to see him come back and dominate. Didn't like him when he was on Quest or on Gauntlet, but he's grown on me since... and in a good way.
