The Challenge: Seasons Synopsis

Thanks to your reviews I watched the original Battle of the Seasons and I'm working on Battle of the Sexes right now.  I've loved every minute of it.

Awesome!  They will give you a whole new appreciation for the show & make you long for those days again.

Reading your synopses got me all nostalgic for the earlier challenges so I pulled out my DVD's and watched Gauntlet 2 today.  That one had some really great daily missions, not to mention Syrus (my favorite) in a Speedo!  I also loved seeing both sides of Timmy... the funny guy who mimicked Aneesa while she was laying into Cara and who deadpanned that TJ got to use the word "sequestered" as well as the serious competitor and team player who rightly pointed out that the Veterans team was falling apart like Legos.  Gauntlet II was an altogether great challenge.  Next up on my rewatch list: Inferno II.

Thank God for DVDs Smile

Count me as one of the people who say that The Gauntlet 2 was the last classic season and the end of an era. It was the last season to have the cast entirely made up of people who were either on The Real World or Road Rules and the challenge stars of that time would start to be phased out and move on or become relics of a bygone era or just get played out and not have the same impact they once had. A nice cap off to one of the best periods of Reality TV ever.

And I also think that this season needs to be mentioned as one of the only big team challenges that were stacked on both teams. It wasn't as lopsided as alot of team challenges tend to be with one team basiscally wiping out the other one. It was a nice back and forth between them and that is rare with seasons like that.

I enjoy both the light-hearted silly challenges and the hardcore physical challenges we are more accustomed to today.  I think it's cool that the boys opted for drama free eliminations via the points system.  You could tell most of them valued having fun and making friends over winning the money.  On the other side, the women were cutthroat from the beginning (Emily B. inner circle doings).  That is the kind of strategy we see today on The Challenge where you want to eliminate your top threats.

Fresh Meat

The tide is turning in challenge-land as new players who’ve never been on MTV show up ready to compete for money, fame & precious camera time.  Welcome, Austin members Wes, Johanna, Danny & Melinda!  The cast pick their Fresh Meat partners & the newbies integrate pretty well as far as missions & hooking up go.  The Tonya/Tina feud continues.  Shane & Theo say adios to the Challenges.  Darrell goes 4 for 4 in challenge wins with his partner Aviv.  High Point-A Mohawk-ed Wes gets 3rd place, despite dragging his mostly useless partner Casey around through 5 Exile rounds.  Cocky Evelyn is the first team to leave, with her partner Danny. Obnoxious Evan is sent home with a hernia after crushing the challenges with his partner Coral.  Low Point- Though they behave themselves fairly well, it’s still nauseating to see annoying idiots like Eric, Evan & Kenny try their best to make an impression in hopes of being invited back for future seasons.  Historical Moment-Diem, who was diagnosed with Stage 2 ovarian cancer after being chosen for the cast, bravely lets the cameras into her struggle & begins a sweet, tender friendship with her partner Derrick.                                                                                                         B+

Love the reviews but Darrell was 4 for 4 in winning Fresh Meat Dirol

LOL at the low point.

I loved Derrick and Diem's relationship.

I loved Derrick and Diem's relationship.

I did too. I wanted them to get together and win!

Fixed Darrell's record.  Smile

Derrick & Diem >>>>>> CT & Diem

I should hate Fresh Meat 1 more than I do given that it brought us with the first group of non-cast members that would go on to destroy this show but it was a decent show in retrospect.

What was up with Theo during the reunion?  I remember he had his neck in a brace.  Did he hurt himself on the show?  Also, I think I remember him being really bitter about being eliminated.

Tina & Wes elevated FM for me for sure.  When they team up at the end, I was loving it.

Theo was just a weirdo & a ham.  He always had some corny schtick going on.

Fixed Darrell's record.  Smile

Derrick & Diem >>>>>> CT & Diem

I completely agree, I liked them way more as a couple! I liked CT/Diem as a couple too but I loved Derrick and Diem's dynamic on Fresh Meat 1.

Anytime I see Derrick now I think about Beth roasting him on that Gauntlet 2 aftershow lmaoo

But yeah Derrick/Diem >>>>> CT/Diem. I don't think they ever really acknowledged each other after that season though.

Derrick & Diem >>>>>> CT & Diem

I liked Derrick and Diems dynamic too. Seemed more real and Derrick really wanted to help her win.

I can't wait to read the review of The Gauntlet 3 LMAO

I can't wait to read the review of The Gauntlet 3 LMAO

I can't wait for The Island

The thing with Diem/Derrick is that they only did two more challenges with each other. Duel 1, Derrick had Kina and Jodi and those are like his sisters. CT and Diem immediately graviated towards each other. Also, Derrick did save Diem once. The Ruins was their 2nd and final challenge with each other and Diem went home immediately. I liked Derrick and Diem's friendship but karma's a ***** for them. She sent in her friends/alliance (Shane/Linette, Theo/Chandra) probably because they were a stronger team but cries when she's sent in by Tina/Kenny based on the same theory they had.

Yeah, Diem was so hard to root for back then.  Such a  hypocrite.  I LOVED Tina laying into her in classic fashion.  "How did we GET here?  Oh, you got a lotta nerve, *****."

LMAO I just realized Seasons 1 and Sexes 2 along iwth G2 are awesomely produced and stylized.

Another thing, Am I the only one who was disappointed that we went from Gauntlet to Inferno 1 bck in 2003/04. I remember watching inferno 1 and being disappointed like wtf with the casting (not that it was bad but that it was only 21 people (counting Piggy).

Inferno 2 cast made me barf.

I love Diem but it was stupid for her to act upset when she got voted into the elimination round since that was her FIRST challenge. Plus, Derrick and Diem avoided eliminations throughout the whole season and that was the first one they were going to compete in. Diem mentally checked out in her exile.

I remember she said the first thing she heard after she took off her wig was Derrick saying D you look good! Which I always thought was great

Back when Diem was a soccer mom and hated. After Duel I started to like her but hated her sassaying on G3.

That was delicious! I miss Tina Sad

Tina was great TV. I wish she could've seen her go out on top instead of being disqualified on her last challenge.

Tina would have been great on Gauntlet 3 or Inferno 3. She most likely would have won her 1st challenge in Inferno 3 IMO. Also, being on a team with Coral/Katie/Beth would have been classic

The only time Diem was in fact screwed over IMO was in Duel 1 when Aneesa promised her she wasn't going to pick her. Diem was correct to call her out. Other than that, Diem is IMO a female Wes with her politics
